Rio lied down to keep watch. He started to drowse asleep himself.

Hmm, I don't want to bring Ai in yet, but Hiro and Grant could come...that okay with you?

Sadie suddenly stiffened, raising her head. "Did you hear that?" she asked softly.

"Heard what?" He yawned.

"Something moving..." Sadie whispered, frowning. She stood up, eyes widening as she recognized the scent. "Rio, it's Hiro and Grant!" Fear for her pups coursed through her.

"You run and protect the pups, I'll hold them off for as long as I can," Sadie said, her tone firm and leaving no room for argument. Her neck twinged in pain at the memory of that horrible battle, but she ignored it.

Rio went to the pups. He didn't want to wake them so he just stood there.

Hiro leapt out of the dense shrub, his lethal teeth glinting in the sun.
Sadie snarled, immediatly going into battle mode. She ignored the painful memories of before, lunging at him. Her claws ripped down his side, leaving three bloody claw marks running from his back to his stomach.
Hiro made a small sound in surprise and pain, but soon began to growl again, a low sound that started in his belly.

Grant just headed for Rio, and then saw the sleeping puppies.
Rio saw him coming, and then growled and lunged toward him.
Rio started to bite, but Grant dodged it. Grant then bit Rio's joint and then he collapsed.
"SADIE! PROTECT THE PUPPIES!" He yelled at her.
Grant started to go towards the puppies.

Sadie's maternal instincts were taking over, and a fierce snarl, one she would never have been able to produce normally, leapt out of her throat, accompanied by a lunge at Grant's neck. She would do anything to save her pups.

Sadie turned to Hiro, still snarling furiously. Her white eyes burned with an angry flame, her hackles raised.
Hiro was releculant to retreat, but he had seen what Sadie had done to Grant...in one, swift move. So he quickly left, leaving Grant behind.

Grant sat there. He was motionless. But not dead.
Rio was crying of pain. He couldn't move his front leg. It was hurt very bad.
