Except that it's "Aleu". A-l-e-u.

I personally like Aleu. I agree with many of the points that have already been made in this topic. First of all, I believe that Aleu didn't hate Balto for his heritage, she "hated" him for keeping her in the dark about his (and, through him, her) heritage. She only ran away because her entire world had been turned upside-down. How many of you wouldn't go into self-denial for a bit if you suddenly found out that everything you'd known your entire life was a lie? (I ask this because Aleu was not yet fully mature--only 14 or 15 in dog years.) This is exactly how I think Aleu felt when teh hunter fired at her. She had lived her entire life thinking she was a dog, thinking she would be adopted, only to learn the hard way that no one would want her.
The gender bit, however, I can see both sides of--even I see whining girls as more annoying tahn whining boys. But I have witnessed "breakdowns" from young boys that were far more annoying than any from young girls. And are you really going to discriminate against Aleu because she's female? Even as a guy, I find female characters much more fun to write simply because of the vast amount of emotional capacity I feel they have. Maybe that's why I like Aleu so much--maybe it's because I like her character.
Again, I make the point that Aleu ran away simply because she was shocked at what Balto had just told her.

Sorry if anyhting I say is inaccurate--I really didn't feel like reading through this entire topic before posting. Also, I'm new, so go easy on me.

That is a very good point about the self-denial... and as much as it makes sense, I just wonder why no one else ever brought it up to her before the hunter incident [especially since Balto seemed to get it all the time]. I mean, she could have run into a dog that recognizes wolves and found out that way or something; it's not that hard to do, especially when it's said that she could go freely to Jenna/Rosy's house in the town. Really...? How did she stay in the dark for over a year's time about something like her appearance? - that's what I'd really like to know!

And if you're wondering about the gender thing, I'm not saying that anyone else is discriminating against her because she's a female that happens to look like a wolf and whines a bunch in a whiny voice; I was only making a point about how she was following a stereotype of the "whiny teenage girl". Honestly, I too like her as a character and as an eventual strong [in her own way]-yet-still-maturing female that differs from the usual "males-only" stereotype. Almost like Mulan's character in her movie, for example... but whinier, obviously.

Again, I betcha that if she were either [a]: a male that looks like a wolf, [b]: a female that wasn't so whiny, or [c]: a female with a less-annoying voice... I bet she'd have so many more fans than haters.

I agree Juuchan. It would be kind of difficult for Aleu not to find out about her heritage before the encounter with the hunter. The only solution I can think of is that maybe she learned to stay to the alleys like Balto had (although I don't know where she would have learned that, as it would raise questions if Balto taught her).

Or Balto was just all out "overprotective dad", as the film definitely showed him being. She was seen more out in the woods and at Balto's boat in the beach more than anywhere else [WoC added a cliff and a waterfall to that, but it doesn't count much here.], so... yeah. I really doubt that Balto would teach her something like that.

I'm more surprised that Jenna didn't bother to tell her, as it seems Aleu had some sort of a connection with her of some point, thanks to her grammar and whatnot.

Maybe Jenna was worried that Balto wouldn't want her to find out so soon. He was still sensitive about his wolf side, so maybe he told Jenna not to reveal it because he wasn't sure how to respond if on of the pups asked him about it.

I don't hate her. I generally like her. It's her mood sometimes...

I know I've already posted in this topic and it's not like I can't post again but please be warned I have a bad habbit of repeating myself.


Aleu is whiny yes I agree,but if you actually take the time or biology classes to study your average wolf they are known to be quite stubborn. They don't give up until they get at least more than half of what they want. We saw these traits in Niju to who refused to give up his tyranic rants against Nava. Aleu is also acting like the average "tv",human teenager. She's just being what any wolf would be and we know it's a trait of the wolf from these words["How did you get so stubborn"?(Balto)"I take after you remember"?(Aleu)] So those who hate Aleu I see your point. Nobody likes a whiner but I still say everybody loves Aleu...

I agree xD Another reason to dislike her. Her character is a bad influence on Balto's character.

Well it's not like I'm against anyone's opinion or anything but c'mon guys,seriously? Aleu really isn't all that bad and if you actually look towards the end you can see through that snotty personality of hers and find that at heart she's just another lovable and only somewhat sensible pup.

Actually, the way I see it is that Aleu's remark had nothing to do with Balto's character--she was just making a cheap shot at him with relation to her heritage. Balto's never been stubborn--he's always taken the help he needed, given help that was needed, etc. So Aleu was just trying to insult Balto, not commenting on his character.

I think Aleu had that rebellious side to her that she longed tor independence. I dont hate her, but actually admire her for finding her destiny.
