Kodi held his tongue and rearranged his words that he was ready to shout at the old dog. "So, will you tell us?"
"Fine, then," Doc said, exhausperated. "If you're all so anxious to know."

Alright, alright," Doc said. "But lets go somewhere a bit more private." He got up and walked to the very back of the room. He crawled through a small square hole in it that lead to a back room. He waited for all the siblings to come in behind him before pushing a box over the whole. "This is where all pribate meetings are held," he explained as he limped to the center of the room and laid down. "Now, I'll warn you, this story is long. I've known your grandfather since we were puppies, though that part isn't important at all. But, tell me, what do you want to know of your gandfather's history?"

"Well for starters, his name was Scout," Doc began. "He is a purebred husky, looks just like your father though his top coat is much more darker. He grew up here with a mum and dad, a good family, sled racing in his blood. It wasn't long before he and I were a team, going on rescure missions in the middle of blizzards and finding the lost humans or dogs. Those were some of the best days of my life." Doc smiled at the memory. But the grin slowly turned into a frown. "But then the accident happened. We were on a rescue mission to find a couple of hikers. The storm was really bad. We had barely gone a mile before trying to turn back. Scout knew where home was. And we were gonna be alright. But, suddenly, he fell. Passed out. Fainted. Right on the snow. Scariest thing I've ever seen. We all thought he was dead. Passed away. Musher put him off to the side and left." Doc gave a heavy sigh. He said in a whisper, "I didn't want to leave him. No one did. But with him not pulling and his weight added to the sled, we wouldn't have been able to do it. Didn't matter anyway. We got lost, nearly died out there. Your grandfather and I were the only known survivors." Then out of blue Doc gave small chuckled. "Sometimes I think that it was best old Scout got left out there," he said. "Doubt he wouldn't have survived if your grandmother hadn't foud him."
Kodi nodded, trying to get over his sad feelings for the lost lives of the dogs and musher. "Do you know that whole story too?" he asked.

"Yes, of course," Doc said to Aleu. He turned to Kodi. "Actually, I do. It was pretty basic. Aniu found Scout freezing to death. She has such a kind heart that she couldn't just leave him there to die. She took him in to a small den and nursed him back to health. I don't know all the details, but your granfather told me that Aniu's pack wasn't at all happy with her when she prestented to Scout to them."
"Wait," Kodi said. "He told you?"
"Yes, he did," Doc said. "The pack did eventually return to them, but he wanted to come back and tell everyone he was alove. Not to mention that he was going to be a father. That was when he told me his story. He stayed for a day before returning to Aniu. Then, about three months later, he comes back devasted. There was a war between Aniu's pack and a rival pack. Scout had been seperated from everyone. Thought they were all dead. So, he moved on. The last time I saw him, he was headed to Anchorage. 'Course, Balto showed up a month or two later. I didn't make the connection until he was atleast 8 months old. Then I began seeing the resemblence. I wanted to tell Balto, but I didn't want to give him false hope. No one knows whether Scout is still alive. And I was, and still am, in no shape to go looking for the dog." Doc looked down. "I wish that I could bring Scout here. I think he'd really like to see his son." He paused. "Do you know that your father has Aniu's eyes? I have never seen the wolf for myself but I know that Balto did not inherit Scout's eye color."

"Well we know Aniu didn't live." said Aleu but she smiled. "Her body anyway, she's Balto's spirit guide." she said. "I know that might not make since but everyone has a spirit guide that leads them and encourges them when they need it." she said. "Mines a mouse, strangely enough."

Doc nodded. "Yes, I've known that she did not make it. She never came looking for Balto after all. Her cries were never heard on the wind as other mother wolves' sad howls often are."

Aleu nodded. "Well actuelly she has but not in life, as a spirit." she said. "She's his spirit guide so she appeared before him on the sirum run when he was losing hope but at the time he didn't know it."

"Anyway," Kodi said. "Doc, you say that Scout is most likely in Anchorage."
Doc narrowed his eyes at the siblings. "You six aren't planning on trying to find your grandfather, now are you?"

Doc wasn't sure about trusting Dingo, but he shrugged it off. "Alright, I believe you," he said. "But I am an old dog and old dogs need their rest." He got up. "Now, if you would kindly be on your way."
Kodi gave a mental sigh of relief. He had alomst ruined the whole thing. He followed Doc and his siblings out the hole into the wall. "Doc," Kodi said before leaving. "Thanks for telling us."
