Just to show how much they care...Balto isn't even listed on the list of films on their official site!

http://www.universalstudiosentertainmen ... tles.php#B

Neither are Land Before Time and An American Tail, though Curious George IS. Looks like they definitely want to erase them from their memories, even though I don't understand why (And never will. Stupid companies not even realizing the potential of their own licences...Pffff.)

Great Universal, just great. Keep bringing on masterpieces like "Despicable Me", after all instant $$$ is what you only care about. Thank you for your short term vision.

"Baby Mama"? Are you kidding me? That's on the list but Balto isn't?

It's unbelievable to me that they don't even recognize a movie of Balto's quality. It's one of the very last high quality hand animated big budget movies ever made. I mean this is one of the last movies where they really put in the effort to be as accurate as possible, sending animation teams to Alaska, and to observe Huskies for weeks, prior to doing the painstaking frame by frame hand drawn animation work.

And the score is amazing, the story is amazing (if it weren't we wouldn't all be here years later talking about it), it's the very definition of a classic movie. It has everything.

Bah. I lose more faith in humanity every day.

Universal is a corporation, I can recognize their right to strive for profit, but what do they gain from trying to while balto from their history? That won't gain them viewers, it will only loose them viewers, people like us. Personally, I'm not exactly yearning for a sequal unless they brought back the cast and writers of Balto 1. Some people like 2 and 3, but I wasn't impressed. Balto 2 didn't impress me any more when first saw it at 7 years old then now at fifteen. Age target really has little to do with it.

I respect universal as a business, and I can understand why they wouldn't make another balto, (if something isn't working, why waste money on it) but I don't understand why they would remove it from their repetuar. They already made it, why not pull whatever sales you can out of each and every title? I don't know.

I agree, Balto was the last high quality Hand sketch 2d cartoon, and in my opinion, sketchy hand drawn styles tend to remain proportionate and smooth. It also gives you the fealing that a lot of dedication and effort went into the film

Man, what a shame...I think it's safe to say Balto is nothing more than a memory now.

To be honest, I'm not suprised. Balto didn't do as well like Toy Story.

Everynow and then I see Balto DVDs for sale, so Balto is not 100% gone. But in my opinion, I don't they care for the older viewers. They are trying to gain the younger viewer's appeal. And that's understandable. People want money, not losing money.

But still, this is a shame. I was somewhat looking forward to a Balto Special Edition DVD, to put next to my orignal Balto DVD.

I honestly think that the site's popularity is enough proof that it DOES attract younger viewers (how many of you were not even born when it was released?), they just don't exploit it.

Actually, I have not encountered many fansites on the web dedicated to one animated film, that are as popular (not saying that because I'm the webmaster, but it really is true! ) Apart from The Lion King fansites...Can't see any other.

No, I think the reason is because the film is not very well known, so people working at Universal don't even know it, so of course they're not helping to make it more popular...Vicious circle.
I still think that not replying our petition is really lame though. There is no good excuse for that.

They dont advertise it either. Never knew there was a second movie, not to say even a third, before about 1 year ago. Found it at a friends house and pestered him into letting me borrow it.
Really a pitty... but thats apearently how the industry works

Yeah, it's a shame. This movie doesn't get the credit it deserves and I don't understand why they're basically disowning it. It's extremely well written and animated. They should be proud. But companies don't work based on personal feelings for their work; it's all about the money. Personally I think it should be up there with all the classics like Lion King and Little Mermad--only, ya know, better. :? Well, the best we could do is introduce more people to the story and keep watching. I definitely plan to show this movie to my kids someday.

Clearly The Universal site has had some updating since Steet's 'discovery'. Balto is both on the site, and on the list.

They seem to be steadily adding titles, for example, LBT1, 5-8 and two seasons are on there, others are missing.

(They described WQ as "brilliantly animated" - someone hold me before I go rage mode!)

Cool! Well at least that's something. And with the re-release of more and more older movies on blu-ray maybe there's a tiny, tiny chance that they'll do the same for Balto. Not going to hold my breath but less likely things have happened.

In a surprising move, Cliff Ruby and Elana Lesser worked on the screenplay for the first film, and were listed as the primary screenwriters for the third film.

But I agree with you. Animation is a medium, not a genre, and there isn't any reason that animated films can't appeal to all age groups, not just kids.

Petition is closed, but I would have signed in a heartbeat earlier.
