"Nah, I was waking up anyways." Heather assured. "So who's that?" She said in a low voice, looking over at the 15 year old.

"That is my 'eternal punishment', Nathan Smith..." Atticus replied in a whisper.

"Doesn't seem so bad." Heather said "Considdering he's an eternal punishment" Heather joked with a wink.

Atticus chuckled. Then explained how he knew Nate: "I worked on his case for awhile... he lived with a messed up family. His mom committed suicide and his dad was a jailhouse local. He was finally sent to an orphanage, but he likes to break out... go and get into trouble-"

"Um, you're forgetting to add, that I'm an artist!" Nate snapped from the couch, he turned and looked at them. "So what's your hot girlfriend's name?" he asked Atticus who shot him a glare.

"I'm Heather, and what's you're name?" She said, shaking his hand politely and smiling.

"Nate Smith!" he replied shaking her hand and flipping his bangs out of his eyes.

(lol ya I just saw that XD that's gonna be big news at my school tomorrow x3)

"Well, Nate, I'm making breakfast, want some?" Heather offered, walking to the kitchen and starting the stove.

((Probably won't be that big at my school, but I'm going to make it big! I'm such a history junky x3 ))

"That's okay Heather, he's gotta-"

"Yes please, Heather." Nate interrupted and looked at Atticus with a grin.

"Cool, eggs are okay. Right? I know some people are like vegan and stuff." Heather cracked a few eggs into a pan and started scrambling them.

"Vegan? Ha, not me, not a' chance!" Nate laughed resting his head on his arms as he watched them. Atticus took out bacon and started to fry it. Nate took a small leather journal from his bag and started writing in it. Since Atticus had known him he wrote stuff in that book, yet not once had Atticus looked inside it. "Are you guys gonna like get married? and have kids?"

"Nate!" Atticus scolded.

"I was just wonderin'!" Nate grinned continuing to write in his journal.

Heather continued to stir the eggs, and laughed at the question.

"Ahh, not anytime soon bud, I just met Atticus. What? A week ago?" She mused.

Atticus laughed "Yeah..."

Nate muttered something to himself as he scribbled in his little book he chuckled lightly at his own words, not allowing anyone to see the page of his journal. Atticus knew he had muttered a comment , either one of his smart a** remarks, or something perverted, that only a teenage boy would understand. Nate chewed on his pen cap then looked up at them, "Well, it doesn't matter how long you've known someone... studies show that short term relationships, followed by proposals, lead to better marriages. Because these two people want to be together all hours of the day, and they can't stand to be apart."

"I know you didn't learn that in the orphanage." Atticus teased.

Nate shrugged "Study also says those couples have better family lives, like with their kids and stuff-"

"Nate! I know where you're going with this..."

Nate blinked slowly and looked at his hands.

Atticus sighed and rubbed his neck, "You know I can't adopt you-"

"Why not?!" Nate asked suddenly standing up.

"Nate-"

"Mary and all her goons at that d*mn orphanage hate me!" he referred to Mary Marlone, the wicked woman who ran the orphanage. "And I can't leave there until I'm eighteen... you know no one will adopt me Atticus! Just let me stay here!"

"Nate you do this every time I see you, it's kidnapping if I 'just let you stay', I'm taking you back when you're done eating, now just stop Nate..."

Nate closed his mouth to end his protest. He grabbed his journal and stormed off out onto the balcony.

Atticus sighed and rubbed his forehead, then he looked at Heather "Sorry about that..." he sighed.

"Poor kid.." Heather muttered, "He just wants a home.." She looked at the eggs and scooped them on a plate, mulling over the subject of Nate.

"He's overly dramatic..." Atticus sighed, putting the fully cooked bacon on a plate.

Nate stood outside on the balcony, taking some cigarettes he had stolen from the mall, out of his satchel. Nate wasn't a 'smoker', to say, but he was use to the world of drugs and alcohol. He wasn't and addict or anything like that, but he would retort to alcohol and tobacco when he was mad. He took one of the cigarettes and lit it with a match. He could steal anything, except a lighter?! He rolled his eyes and took a puff of the cigarette looking out Over the parking lot.

"I'm gonna go talk to him." Heather announced, handing Atticus a plate and turning on her heel to the balconey. She looked through the glass door and slipped out of the house.

"Hey." She greeted Nate, walking next to him and hanging her hands over the railing of the balconey.
