Usually in the morning, but not this year. We now have to wait until my older sister and her spouse come over tomorrow night for dinner, THEN we open our gifts.

The whole origin of christmas and other religious holidays come from one holiday from a long time ago: When people though the sun was going far away (Since the earth has it's tilt and there are seasons the sun is far away then when the Winter Solstice comes the sun starts getting closer to our side of the earth again and people never KNEW that soo) and when they saw that the sun was coming BACK, everyone started to celebrate and then the tradition of holidays at the end of the year started. Then Churches started adapting it to their thing. Christain church said it was the "Birth of Jesus" Because no one KNOWS the exact date Jesus was born! They need to celebrate it somehow so they chose the end of the year. December 25th. A few days after the Winter Solstice.
