Kyler hugged Damien around his waist with one arm as well, thoughtfully biting the thumbnail on her free hand. "We're such bad kids." she joked, shaking her head as they traveled closer to their destination.

They walked along the side of the road for a short while, simply enjoying each other's company. After a few minutes, Kyler said, "Hey... sorry about my mom back there. She doesn't usually act like that with someone else around."

Kyler sighed. "I know it was hard for you not to." she informed, rubbing the outside corner of her eye. "But ever since the fights started..." her voice trailed off, and she hesitantly lifted her arm, pulling her long, black sleeve back. Her arm revealed a long black and red burn, starting at her wrist and ending at her elbow. "She's been getting violent..." She quickly pulled her sleeve back down and met his eyes. "Thank you for defending me."

Kyler noticed his rage and she immediately realized what she had done. She placed her hand on his shoulder and said, "Damien, it's ok, I'm ok."

When Damien yelled at her, Kyler felt shocked and hurt at first but then realized he was only concerned about her and mad at what her mother did, not Kyler. "I'm sorry!" she said loudly, not knowing what else to say. "I'm sorry I showed you, I, I didn't mean to-!" she cut herself off and wrung her hands together, eyes darting frantically from side to side. She said quieter, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset, I- I just..."

When Damien ran to her and hugged her, Kyler felt like crying though no tears were present. She drove him to the point where he could kill someone, and she hated this feeling. "I didn't mean to make you mad," she pleaded, burying her face in his shoulder, "I should've known that you would get angry..." How stupid she had been, showing him her scar! She should have known Damien would be upset about it, and she felt idiotic for not thinking first.

Kyler nodded lightly, clutching his shirt in her hands as he hugged her. "I promise." she vowed, promising herself as well. "It's embarrassing and I wanted to keep it a secret. Just promise me you won't call me f***ing insane again..." Even though she knew he loved her, words still cut deep and she got enough from her mother as it was. She grinned a little and added, "And try not to kill my mom the next time you see her."
