Not to offend anyone, especially Steet, but that is the Stupidest rule on this forum! It's not destracting, it's just cool. It's only destracting to the weird people who decide to stare at them, and wonder to themselves.
No one I know here dislikes them, and it's seems more people like them than don't. It's really stupid. People use EVERYTHING else here, no a small group of people want to complain about animation. IT'S REALLY DUMB!

ummm...I think you're missing the point...
I agree with Steet...I'd like BS to still have content...

Animated things distract me. The rule should stay.

Steet needs to suggest the rule a bit more strongly.

Have you ever seen any serious forums which allowed that? I don't.

What do you mean by serious forum?

If you mean like more mature forums like older anime forums, or video game forums, well there is not one anime forum or video game forum that does have all non animated images, if you go to a few anime sites and forums you'll see, there is about 69 to about 75% of the people use animeted sigs and avatars, sorry if thats not what you ment.

http://www.animeleauge.net

http://www.evilunleashed.com

Those two sites always have more people with animated sigs and avatars, it's very popular and for some reasion just people on here seem to have a problem with it, but about then being distracting by looking at them is well kind of a lame excuss for not wanting then because if it's distracting do not look, very simple, but I do know what you mean by they make the forum slower, and yes it tends to get annoying if your listening to music or trying to work on something else.

Another thing I noticed though, it seems that people from here seem to have problems with there computer running slow due to animeted sigs and avatars, but if you go onto the two sites I linked you will notice that it runs normaly, I find that weird^^, sorry if I went off topic.

Also Steet, by serious if you didn't mean anime sites/forums, did you mean like history forums and edjucational forums?

Umm...I think Steet means he doesn't want the forums to have nothing but animation...Plus, not everyone has hi-speed internet and it slows down there comps...

Maybe for you, but not for me. That's the main reason, I just HATE to see animations on a page when I'm reading a text. It's making things much more difficult because our eyes are automatically focusing on the animation when something is moving. Of course, when it's slow animations or very little ones, it's not a problem. But when it looks like ads, this IS disturbing.
BTW, why do you think most adverts on the web are blinking or have quick animations? To make you focus on them.

A lot of the other sites I go on (such as youtube) have ads on them, which are pretty annoying and usually waver my attention from text...I agree with Steet, I want this site to stay without ads (as well as animated sigs/avatars)

I don't like it when there are those advertisments blinking in your face. >< I find it distracting and it hurts my eyes. And even with the avatars. Sure, some of them can be cool, but sometimes when I'm trying to read a topic and there are animated avatars, I get distracted and lose my spot. ><

Why is that?

Simply because they cause a bright flash of light when they appear on the computer screen.

I HATE animated things. >< I'll be trying to read and all of a sudden my eyes see something animated and I'm trying to look at that and read at the same time. It just doesn't work at all. They are WAY too distracting.

Ohh some people will never understand..
Animated siggs or avatars are simply annoying you,yes you can't concentrate while you're reading the posts.
You'll pay more atention on the animations rather then the writting(post)...Plus as I said Internet connection trouble they may cause =_= (not in my case!) Because of the heavyness of the loading.
