Woah, HOW did I miss this topic? Oliver and Company, one of my favorite animated films! I was utterly obsessed with it in grade school, my friends and I would literally sing the songs EVERYwhere in school. I memorized the entire soundtrack (Streets of Gold, Why Should I Worry, Perfect Isn’t Easy, and Once Upon a Time in New York City are the best tracks!) and I’d dance around all over the living room pretending to be the characters. When the sprinklers went on I’d wash the bottom of my shoes off in them and sing Why Should I Worry, to mimic Dodger and the fire hydrant.
Oh, yes, good times. My favorite characters are Rita (obviously), Dodger, and Georgette. Dodge is one of those awesome streetwise, carefree guys like Tramp and Charlie Barkin that I always dug. Georgette is hilarious and very well-voiced by Bette Midler. Love her color too. Rita was my first super-favorite character; I so wanted to BE her. She still occupies my top spot along with newer, similar characters. I bought a Rita plushie from the Disney store a couple years ago; that day was amazing for the store, they had a special plush sale with characters you’d never think you’d see in plushie form. There was a table in the center with O&C characters including Einstein, Francis, and a small Georgette--and when I walked around it I saw the bigger Ritas and squeed and bought one. I already had a plush Oliver and Dodger at home from when it first came out (also a plush Lady…and O&C Burger King kids’ meal toys and all kinds of stuff.) But the Disney store had plenty of others that day too, I even saw really big plushies of dogs and cats from Homeward Bound and The Incredible Journey (Luath, Bodger, Tao, Chance, Shadow, Sassy--I don't recall exactly who they had, it probably wasn't all of those, but there were at least a few.)
All right, so back on topic. Yes. Rita. I love her. And now I’m going to respond to things written elsewhere in the thread (though they’re kinda old.) Yes, Rita is a Saluki. (Disney says Afghan hound, but I suspect most people would think a Saluki was a motorcycle!)
As to the sequel--I’m very curious, IS it official that they’re making one? I didn’t think so but someone made it sound as if they heard it was really happening. I’m a bit torn as far as wanting or not wanting an O&C sequel. No, I don’t want them to make another cruddy one. But it’s not as if the first movie can ever be ruined; it is what it is. They can’t change it. I guess I DO want a sequel, just on the chance that it IS good, or partly good. That would be worth the risk of it stinking. The thing is, O&C is one of the few Disney movies that have no romance in them, and so many sequels are based on that. They’d need a completely original idea to do an Oliver & Company 2, because the first movie is so unique itself. But if they could come up with a good plot, and animate it well with good characters, music, etc., and make a movie that did some justice to the first one, I’d be very happy to see it. I would love to see more of the characters.
So speaking of romance, there IS definitely suggestion throughout the movie that Rita and Dodger have kind of been ‘more than friends,’ so to speak, and certainly find each other attractive, although they’re not ‘an item.’ Dodger is very much a flirt and enjoys hitting on and being the heartthrob of girls all over the city, so I don’t know if or when he’d settle down to a be a “one-woman dog.” I don’t know how serious his relationship with Rita is/was. She certainly does not NEED a boyfriend. But she does refer to him as “baby” and “honey” at different times. Just because they’re close? Dunno, it’s really ambiguous. I like how she yanks him away from those two in the convertible at the end though. It reminds me strongly of Misty pulling Brock off by the ear as he gawks at yet another female in Pokémon. XD
So yeah, I’m a BIG O&C fan. ^_^

OMG! I LOVED that movie! I haven't seen it for about 4 years now, but it was awsome! I loved the song, " Why should I worry?!" It was sooo cool! My fav charater was probrobly Georgett, she was kinda cool. Tito was cool, and Doger and Oliver. I liked all of them, at least the ones I remember.

I liked most of them though. I like just about everyone too! But Rita is my favorite by a landslide. Then Georgette, then Dodger.

If they make a sequel of it, lets just hope it's a good one.
