Reported Cure for Rabies from 1892
"It is said that wolves, which in former days were extremely numerous, sometimes went crazy, and bit every animal they met with, sometimes even coming into camps and biting dogs, horses, and people. Persons bitten by a mad wolf generally went mad, too. They trembled and their limbs jerked, they made their jaws work and foamed at the mouth, often trying to bite other people. When any one acted in this way, his relations tied him hand and foot with ropes, and, having killed a buffalo, they rolled him up in the green hide, and then built a fire on and around him, leaving him in the fire until the hide began to dry and burn. Then they pulled him out and removed the buffalo hide, and he was cured. While in the fire, the great heat caused him to sweat profusely, so much water coming out of his body that none was left in it, and with the water the disease went out, too. All the old people tell me that they have seen individuals cured in this manner of a mad wolf's bite."
Could they do that to Balto?

Anyway, thanks for the replies everybody.
On the rabies story:
I do believe that there is a vaccine against it today, but that wouldn't help at all in 1925.
Rotramel, that, er, method does sound incredibly painful, but it did give me an idea. Perhaps a neighboring wolf clan could have a weird cure like that? Lets see, I haven't quite developed Cloud Runner's pack much, maybe that would help. And the 'cure' or 'ritual' (whatever I call it) could involve a sacrifice of some sort by Jenna, or an intervening by Aniu.

One note: I'll be out for a while, but I'll be finishing A New Life and hopefully starting its sequel, 'Steele's Revenge.'
And I will work on Blood Lust as well. Hopefully, I'll have at least the first chapter done soon.

A sacrifice... oy... this story sounds TOUGH!

I've got an idea about that sacrifice...
I don't know if you read the bible much, but there's a story in there about Abraham, and his son Iasaac.
Abraham's wife, Sarah, was baren (unable to have kids) for a long time, and then she finally did have a son.
Abraham LOVED his son, his only son.
One day, God told Abraham to sacrifice his son, and Abraham, though it was going to hurt him horribly, made plans to do as he was instructed, for he was a man of God.
God stopped Abraham just as he was about to stab and kill Iasaac, and provided a ram instead.
God was just testing Abraham's obeidience.
What if Aniu did much the same thing to Jenna.
Maybe even one of their (Balto and Jenna's kids)
Could Jenna do that, even if it was to save Balto's life?
Might be good.
Aniu seems to be the "God" of Balto, so I suppose she could heal him...
Anyway, it's an idea, and one that I may use in the future....
Still working on Father and Son, and beleive me, this one is going to be good!
I hope to have it done next week, but we'll see....

Yeesh... both fics sounds dangerous... on one side, we have Balto going nuts because of rabies while on the other side... Jenna 'dies' and comes back as a flesh-eating zombie!!!

Good grief... I don't know how to say this but... when will sanity arrive back in the Balto fanfic world...? *Sigh*

Rotramel: Heck yeah! I LIKE IT! Nice idea. And yes, I read the Bible and am familiar with Abraham's predictament.
Anyway, that sounds like a good idea. Now, for the sacrifice.... wow, this one's gonna be tough. Jenna....or one of their kids...?

Ninetales: I agree, we are going a tad 'insane,' but doesn't a tough plot usually turn out a good story? Must I remind you of When a Mistake is Made or A Broken Trust? Both EXCELLANT stories, just with gut-wrenching plots.

What is more gut-wrenching is that we are gonna have Jenna die and become a flesh-eating zombie...

Need I repeat the title?

I'm glad to know that people read my works. That's really the only reason I write them: to get reviews and see what people think.
Of course if someone comes along and says my stories suck or something like that, I'll completely ignore them, but other than that I love reviews and comments.
