I own two horses. One is a Tennessee Walking Horse named Beauty. She's 11. Her registered name is Carbon's Navada. (Yes, it's a strange name :?) She's solid black with a white stripe down her face. The other horse is my mom's. He's a bay Quarter Horse, but we don't have papers on him. He is 4. His name is Jasper.

I'm a new rider, and I don't take lessons. There isn't many stables around here, and when there is it's way to exensive. I ride western saddle or endurance (english with a high pomel like a horn) saddle , and when I do ride, it's a trail ride on the farm I live on. We haven't got to ride much lately though. In the summer it was too hot. (I didn't want to risk it since my horse is black and in 97 degree weather I was afraid she might get too hot.) and in the winter it was really cold and windy. (Jasper spooks when its really windy. He's only green broke though.) I might have pics up later.

I used to own a horse (Sparky) until school commitments and GCSE's forced me to sell.

I also horse-shared in a stallion called Arran. I used to ride him at one and three day events, until he refused a jump and I dislocated my shoulder.

Once I was fit again I rode like there was no tomorrow but I had a further two dislocations (non-horse related) and I was warned to take it easy.

I do still ride but life is now in the slower lane. I have also got my Husband to join me too.

Dx

Is anyone in Florida looking to buy a English, award winning Gelding? His name is Napoleon. He is a palimino but clipped to look plain white.

I like horses, I've only been riding once. it was fun  I almost got thrown. I was trail riding and the horse started to run in some orange groves. It was great.

Man, I can't believe this topic is still alive XD After reading everything, I've depressed myself -_-. As you may have guessed, I still don't have a horse... :(

I've recently moved to a nice 4 acre property and I really REALLY want one, but after all I've been reading in vet books, I'm not sure we could ever afford one! A million shots a year...they make it like the horse is nothing but a pin-cushion!

Seriously, if your horse gets chilly; it dies. If it gets too warm; it dies. If you BREATH the wrong way; it dies. Gosh, are horses really that sensitive? Please, I know 97% of you own horses. I need info on this ASAP.

Trust me... I breed and train horses.
They are not that weak! they can take the cold and the heat.
Don't stress, the books just freak you out. They can take a lot. It would have to be a really really hot day with NO WATER that the horse would have heat stoke. And in the cold the horse would have a blanket, and go somewhere that the wind was blocked. They have a natural instinct.
My advice: Don't think to much on what those books say.
When I frist worked with my horses, I did. It got me no where. Just talk to people who have horses, you'll give you all the info you need.

Also, if your horse is sick, most of the time the books are no help. And the vets don't know either. Try the same thing: talk to other horse owner. Most the time they have had something happen with one of their horses. Or know someone who has.

But one serious thing, that you might not think would be is Colic!
If your horse gets colic, act FAST!
honestly I don't use a vet very much. I give all my horses thier shots. and I know how to take care of a bad wound. I usually only call them for their coggins.

Sorry if I wasn't very helpful.

I don't have a horse, but I ride 2 times a week, on a gelding called Tyr(pronounced Tir, it's icelandic). He's red, with a black mane and tale(not just brown like a usual bay, but red.). He really cute, and has an food obsession. I love taking him to the forrest. I think I have a picture of him somewhere.. I'll just check.. I have a picture, but how do I post it??
Well anyways.. I love riding him, and takeing care of him. Even though I don't own him, I am allowed to have a horse.. But he's not for sale, so don't want one!... I just pay his owner every month, so I can ride him.. :D [/url]
