I don't mind movies with talking animals, for me it's just a translation for the animals' own language when humans ain't playing a major part in the scene.
But I loved the way they used the dialogue in Spirit. I don't find that boring in any way. In fact I think Balto would've been a little bit better if it's dialogue had used the same format as Spirit's, but that's just my unique way of thinking.

I wish that Spirit did 3 things:
1 make the animals talk
2 spend a LOT more time on Spirit's childhood
3 have that general guy get killed
Then Spirit would be a perfect movie..

I love talking animal movies, but I want to be more precise as I distinguish three types of such movies, of which I have different opinions.
1. Real animals with digitally applied mouth movements (most recent example: Charlotte's Web)
I'm not too much fond of these, because real animals with mouth movements look weird and ridiculous to me.
2. Animated, anthropomorphic animals (e.g. Disney's Robin Hood)
Those are quite nice ones, but animals wearing clothes and acting like humans still don't serve my demands completely.
2. Animated, non-anthropomorphic animals (e.g. Balto)
There we are, those are the best ones. They make you see things through the animals' eyes and thus give you different views on issues. I simply love them, and so do most of the people here.
