4) Balto and Jenna's personalities had changed, especially Jenna's.
5) The plot was not original.

It just wasn't as good as 'Balto'. Yes, sequels tend to not be as good as their predeccesors, but it was disappointing because it could have been better.
Plus, there were funny parts in Balto. In Wolf Quest, I don't remember any parts being funny. I like a little humor.

I really dont beileve that you can see humor in Balto 1. I really don't see problems with the animation. Yest the spirutual stuff was retarded, the plot was not original. BUT, the Balto 1 movie is very VERY loosely based on the real Balto. Was the plot for Balto three original? No. None of the movies are close to having an original plot. Balto Two was my favourite by far. The music was OK, and I didn't see personality change. The drawing style seemed slightly different, though.

Okay, okay! About the humor. I have a weird sense of humor. I thought some parts in Balto were funny. Like when Boris did his little dances. And when Boris was yelling at Muk and Luk. And the sound Star made when he fell in the snow. And when Star went behind the ice in the ice cave and he looked like E.T. And when Jenna cooked Steele's butt. And when... If you didn't think it was funny, okay. That's your opinion. I just tend to have a bit of a 'different' sense of humor. :x :? :P Thank you, and good night.

I personally liked the movie, but most of the reasons to hate it are very true, I'll say that. But there is one reason I've seen(but thankfully not here,) which is just downright stupid, and that's seeing the Inuit spiritual themes as "discrimination towards other religions", or something like that. If that person has a problem with the themes that really were believed in in that area, they can just march down to their private little catholic school and rant about it there. I think that person said the same thing about Brother Bear and Avatar: The Last Airbender as well.

Yeah about the religious thing, I personally didn't mind it for Brother Bear because BB wasn't a sequel for something that had nothing to do with Inuit in the first place  Its just that the inuit religion+Balto didn't mix. Just thought I'd point it out, so that people don't think I'm this crazy-religious person, when Im not

Yeah. Balto and religion just don't belong together.

It was WAY better then WoC. I didn't care for the third movie, but here is why I didn't really care much for this one---

I hated how Aleu was acting. I mean, yeah, she's cool, to some, but too me, she's WAY too spoiled. I mean, the way she hated being part wolf, she should be proud of being part wolf.

I forgot his name, but that wolf who knew magic and hid inside a tree, that made me mad because a wolf really couldn't do that, inless it was dead, but I really don't think a wolf would do that.

The art, too. Balto didn't look like the first Balto. They made him look very old, that made me sort of angry and sad. They made that ther wolf old, too. I know it IS old, but I hated the eyebrows.

Yes, it's better than the thrid one, but the first it probably the best.

Personally i liked WOC better because it was closer to the first Balto
The wolf's name was Nava and he was supposed to add to the magical feel to the movie which i thought was stupid in the first place
and yeah i thought they did a bad job on the art to they should have just kept it the way it was from the first Balto

Something else about the animation, sometimes it's very sloppily pasted onto the background, resulting in visible gaps, like in this screenshot:

Although it's hard to tell in this one. They could just be wierd shadows.

OK. Each of us has a good reason to hate it or like it.

TO HATE IT:

1. The animation didn't surpass the original.
2. Some of the characters took the sparkiness of the original characters and missed it all up!
3. The magical stuff freaked me out!
4. The original characters were completly ignored or made to be annoying! (Muk and Luk did my head in! GRR!)
5. No dog sledding from the original!
6. Balto was completely shunned throughout the movie. (I.e: Aleu has a go at him all the time. He's ignored at the adoption of the pups.)
7. The bear effects did not surpass the original!

TO LIKE IT:
1. You find out more about Balto and his past.
2. You grow to admire the sub characters. (I.e: Dingo, Saba)
3. Some of the scenes are actually beautiful.
4. The songs are quite decent.
5. Balto is featured all the way through.

I just don't like it. Here's why:

1) The characters were very different.
2) some were uneeded and stupid (in my mind, Aleu, that mouse thing, Nava and Niju).
3) most characters were not very original (Aleu and Kiara for a start  ).
4) animation.
5) Character design changes (Balto looked like he was so old he could die in WQ.. at least from my point of veiw, yours might be different).
6)the voices. Muk and Luk sounded Austrailian, Boris sounded nothing like a Russian voice.
7) and the magic. in a BALTO MOVIE?! Not a good reveiw for that, then

Here's another reason why I hate WQ. They NEVER explained why "The Great Aniu" was so "great." Why was she great? Cuz she was white? Sounds a little racist if you ask me. I mean, I'm white, but am I great? No. She's not the only white wolf in the world, you know (i mean look at all the whit fursona's on this site  )

Why the heck was Aniu great? They never said anything about it. Only Niju said "...who listens to the great Aniu only in his dreams..." Ok....now...if someone can give me REAL proof for that one it'd be great. And don't give me the "Because she's Balto's mother!" crap XD The wolf pack couldn't care less about that. Why is Aniu "great"?

So yeah, thats another reason why I hate WQ.

I like Balto 2 the same or better to the original. But in an odd way :p

I'm going to go with cat's points with my own opinions on the film anyway.

1) The most top reason why: it had NOTHING to do with the first movie.

A reason why I liked it more, I see how it could be a problem with original Balto fans though. I'm more into the wolf side that Balto had rather than the dog side.

They broke one of the rules to sequel-making: NEVER mess up the TRUE story. And they did. Balto was a real being and they ruined him putting him in a sequel, which not only shouldnt have existed in the first place, but had no trace of the first movie. Nothing was true about it.

This was initionally odd to me too untill I realised just how different the 'real' story of Balto is to the original film.

2) The characters were VERY different than they were in the first movie, if they were the same at ALL. Every character had a bland, one-dimensional personality. "Filled with...unforgetable characters," The only reason these characters were "unforgetable" was because of how they acted in the first movie: They were different and original and unique.

I agree that all the original characters lacked some quality they had in the original too ;) Jenna I don't even feel is the same Jenna at all.

But I especially want to pick on Niju. He was by FAR the weakest antagonist on the face of the earth. He didn't kill anyone, he didn't even INJURE anyone. And he ended up running away at the end. Not something a true antagonist would do. And yes they did try making him "evil" You can tell just by watching his actions next to Nava's. Niju was the "all-out bad guy with bad intentions" whereas Nava was the "all-out good guy with good intentions."

I liked Niju actually because he wasn't evil, or really a 'bad' character. He was just on a different opinion that became exteme.

3) The spiritual crap HAD to go. The only thing in the first movie that was SOMEWHAT spiritual was the white wolf. But no, they went all out for spirituality in the second movie, which was not only WEIRD for this particular sequel, but also pointless. There was no point in the spirit guide, Muru. The only thing he did was tell Aleu about the journey she was on (probably because I personally think she was too stupid to realize it herself) But they could have avoided her lack of knowledge.

The animal spirits that led Balto to Aleu had no use. If they were not placed in the movie, he would have found her anyway. And as for the "becoming one with the tree" thing. I don't even know what that was about. There was NO use for it. They treated the wolves' beliefs like the Inuit, but the problem with that is wolves do NOT have the same beliefs as humans. So that did NOT work well at all.

I found it interesting anyway *lol*

4) The plotline was very boring. Balto's daughter has to find out her own destiny. Big whoop.

Part of wolf quest that I liked. Since theres no epic plot it leaves more to the characters edging against themselves to make one.

5) There was no "on-the-edge-of-my-seat" action. Of course it's a kids movie and by the time this movie came out, more parents were protective about what movies their children were seeing. But that was no excuse for this movie.

CARE BEARS had more action than this movie. Every kind of situation any of these characters were in was potentially dangerous, but they treated it like nothing. Fighting that bear was just a big ol' joke. A dog fighting a bear is a big deal and the dog can even die, but nobody even put up much of a fight with this bear. And wolverines can be very vicious animals, but all they did was corner Balto and he growled.

And also, the fighting amongst the wolves. All they basically did was tackle and growl at each other. No biting or snarling or anything. Wolves are viscious when they mean business, especially with each other. They made the wolves seem 100% cuddly, just in that lack of action. I mean, seriously, would you want to even MESS with Steele after seeing him rip Balto around? I think not.

I found their fighting skills funny *hehe* Didn't bother me much since most childrens programs do this.

6) The animation was just TERRIBLE. On the back cover of the DVD it says "This...sequel...is a brilliently-animated adventure your whole family will want to share again and again!" That is a bald-faced lie. The animation was bad and they knew it. (and I sure as hell didn't want to watch it more than half-way through)

The animation was lacking but I wouldn't have said that now if they could fix two things with it:

1. Hire a checker. They had too many small colour errors that could have been fixed so easily.

2. Ditch the CGI, this brought it down so much animation quailty wise.

Otherwise I wouldn't have minded it.

7) The songs were VERY annoying. I mean, I like musicals as much as the next person, but there's a reason why certain movies are musical: they're GOOD at it. These songs were not enjoyable, or even catchy for that matter.

I don't have much opinion on the songs :p

Ah, yes. I do like Wolf Quest. But it is an 'odd' liking for it.

If I may point out

I think that if it wasn't for those pretty backgrounds, the entire movie's quality would have been terrible. I think the movie's only hope for interest was in the backgrounds. But that's my personal opinion.

I didn't like WQ very much. I didn't notice anything wrong with the animation, but the voodoo/magic stuff really got me mad (I am one with the tree; oh, come on!) The movie also concentrated too much on what I usually consider "stupid little problems"; oh, who am I? Am I a wolf or a dog? Why am I different? I need to find myself! That sort of thing didn't annoy me in Balto 1 because Balto was, I think, a more likeable character than Aleu.
