Mmm, just to keep people interested, here's a small bit more.
_________________________________________________________

However, before he could reach it, he was brought to another stop. This time, while cutting through a back alley he knew that could save him about five minutes of walking. Exactly why he was trying to save time, rather than kill it, he was unsure. Probably out of habit. But aside from that, it wasn't Ralph or Kirby who halted him this time. It was Dusty. And not until he'd heard that playful laugh of hers did he realize it was her.
Stopping in midstep, Kodi looked over his shoulder and spotted her approaching him. Normally, he wouldn't mind Dusty's company, but with the way she'd been acting lately, he wasn't sure he wanted to be around her anymore than Ralph or Kirby. No doubt she was nowhere near as annoying as those two could be though.
The first thing Dusty did when she reached him was lean right up close with him and brushed against his shoulder. He tried not to react to it, and pretended that Dusty had merely lost her balance and he'd prevented her from falling to the ground. It was getting warmer now and the snow from the cold seasons hadn't melted away. Naturally, the snow was now slippery and wet. Very easy to trip or fall. Once the space between them widened a bit, he said,

"Careful"

Dusty only grinned at him, not really showing any signs that she'd acctually heard what he'd said. That gaze she kept looking at him with was beginning to make him feel uncomfortable again. He was about to say something to her about it when she finally looked away. At the same time, she stopped walking too. Curious, Kodi stopped as well and turned around to face her. He watched her look over her shoulders as if she were making sure they were, infact, alone. Once she was sure they were alone, she resumed walking. Taking only a few steps toward him before halting again.

"Something wrong Dusty?"

He wasn't sure what she was doing. She didn't make any reply either. Her ears twitched a few times. Meaning that she must have heard something. Weather it was him or she was still making sure they were alone by listening for movement or someone approaching, he couldn't tell. She remained still for another few seconds before moving closer to him. Of course, by now, she was way too close to him. Standing up, he put some space between them by taking a few paces backward. But Dusty followed him. Taking a step toward him for every step he took away from her. He now was starting to feel awkward. He wasn't sure how to react. His dad had never taught or talked to him about any of this kind of thing. Really, he knew it'd be instinct. He knew he'd know what to do when the time came. But. . . what was he supposed to do here? Kodi began wishing he'd seen another dog handle a situation like this. That would have at least given him an idea on what he should do.
Just then, he ran out of space behind him. He knew this as soon as he felt the cold brick wall of a building press against his legs. Dusty didn't stop though. She chuckled at seeing him cornered. Then, taking the last few steps toward Kodi, the space between them ran out. Kodi froze. Instead of pressing her nose to his in a dog kiss, she had gone further and pressed her own lips to his. After he got himself back together, he turned his head away from her and, to make her back off, growled. This was only one of the very few times he'd ever growled. The fact that it was at Dusty surprised even himself. But his reasons for doing so weren't unjust. Dusty stared at him. She was surprised that he'd growled at her. It made her take a step back.

"Kodi. . ."

Kodi's growl turned into a snarl. He raised his lips and showed his teeth. This must have scared her because she backed away considerably. Dusty must have realized what had made Kodi do what he'd just done and her scared look changed. Her lips fell to a frown and she took her eyes off Kodi. Eyes closed and nose pointed toward the ground. The way Dusty looked in this position made Kodi feel mad at himself for growling at her. She'd just been trying to express how she felt for him. This was the first time he'd come into a situation like that and now he could see that he might have gone too far with the snarl and showing his teeth. But he walked away. Leaving Dusty completely alone behind him.
He decided he'd talk to her later. Right now, he wanted to be alone for awhile. Dusty's company would have been welcome had the last few minutes never happened. But neither one of them could go back in time and change what had happened so they would have to deal with it. At least now she knew how he felt about her. At the end of the alley, he stopped and looked back at Dusty. She wasn't there anymore. But there was another black figure going in the opposite direction. Judging by how the figure was walking, he guessed it was Dusty. He didn't love her the way she loved him, but that didn't mean he didn't like her as a friend. He just hoped she wouldn't take it too hard.
He hadn't experienced it yet, but rejection must really mess up your whole day. This wasn't turning out to be too good of a day for him either. That already was his third friend he'd jumped all over this morning. If he kept this up, he may not have any left at the end of this day. Sometimes a day would seem easier to get through without getting out of bed. For Kodi, this was one of those days.

"Hopefully today will get better."

Heh, This post might give you an idea that what really goes on in this fic, is not just another Kodi/Dusty fiction. So, there's at least some purpose of this post. Cross-Country practices end on Friday and from then on until the Spring in which Track starts, I don't have much else to do after school so that'll open up alot more time for me to write. I'll be able to get this this fiction rolling at last. I've acctually got quite a bit of this one down. But the thing is, it's all down on paper. I've still got to type it up before i could post it.

Balto5670, I do play World of Warcraft, but because it is not my account that i play on, i can rarely get on. The only time i can acctually log on and stay on for longer than 5 seconds, is when my friend or his grandpa isn't playing. My friends grandpa is pretty addicted to the game so, he plays the game like 9 hours straight. Until i get a job, i can't get my own account. I no longer get allowence so i wouldn't be able to pay the monthly fee.

Okay, after some thought, i've decided that 'This Isn't Right' isn't exactly the best title for this fiction. I came up with another title for this that i think is better suited.

Good Things Never Last Long

Glad someone saw this before it got bumped down to page two. If you didn't notice, i came up with a title for my other fiction. The sequal to (apparently) my most popular fiction i've written so far. Kodi's Big Mistake.

Feeling the land beneath his paws change from wet frozen grass to rough sand, Kodi reached the beach. He glanced up and down it to see if anyone else was here. He saw no one. Feeling relieved, he was unable to supress a yawn. At the same time, he felt the urge to stretch. Doing so made him feel tired. Like the way he always felt when he got up in the morning. His initial plan had been to run some when he got here. But now that he was here, he didn't feel like exerting himself. He'd rather just lay down and take a nap. He was tired and it took very little time to reach his decision. Instead of pushing himself off into a fast paced run, he let his legs bend underneath his weaight and fell the cool damp sand against his stomach. Then resting his head on his paws, he closed his eyes. Waiting for sleep to take him.
But before that could happen, Kodi heard the sound of someone approaching. Who ever it was, he could tell without even opening his eyes that they were coming from behind. He groand unenthusiastically. He had just gottin himself into a comfortable relaxed position. The last thing he wanted to do right now was move. He thought about pretending to be asleep. It wasn't far off from what he was doing anyway. But his curiosity(as it often did) overcame the fatigue and, with alot of effort, Kodi opened his eyes. They still droopeddown making him look like he hadn't slept in days.
He almost let his eyelids fall back down but his curiosity compelled him to lok around and see who was behind him. So, without thinking about it, he lifted his head up and looked over his shoulder. His eyes fell upon the red tinted pelt and thin build of a dog he recognized immediatly. It was his brother Dingo, the last dog he'd expected to see. As soon as Dingo saw him looking he sped up. Before Kodi could say anything, Dingo had reached him.

"Kodi!"

To Kodi, it was perfectly natural. But to a human, it would have sounded like a bark.

"Hay Dingo"

Kodi said, turning his head back around, looking at the icy cold water of the arctic ocean. His nose pointed toward his paws.

"Kodi, you look like you havn't slept a wink in ages. Something wrong?"

Kodi could see his brother out of the corner of his eye but didn't bother to physically look at him.

"No. Im fine. Just. . . you know. Tired."

Dingo looked Kodi over. From his paws out in front of him to the end of his tail which remained still. By the looks of him, he seemed healthy. His rigs weren't visible thre his skin which was always a good sign. Dingo descided that Kodi must have just not gotten enough sleep lat night. Nothing more. He had fully expected to find Kodi out here. But not sleeping. He thought Kodi would have been running. Something about the way Kodi looked laying still and half asleep looked odd. He was used to seeing him energetic and, well, not sleepy.

"So, long time no see eh? Where've you been?"

Kodi put on a false smile. He didn't want dingo to think something was wrong with him. But to be honest he wished Dingo would go away for awhile. Talking wasn'tsomething he felt like doing.

"Right here, pretty much. Wh?"

"Your friends, Ralph and Kirby, they're looking for you. Did you know?"

This didn't Surprise Kodi at all. It was almost common snse that those two would be looking for him. They must have seen or talked to Dusty recently.

"No. I didn't."

There was a stern tone to Kodis reply. Dingo noticed it immegiatly and began to wonder if lack of sleep was Kodis only problem.

"Ah. . . Kodi. Something wrong?"

There was no need to ask. He could tell there deffinatly was something wrong. He wasn't sure what, but something was off with Kodi. Maybe it had something to deal with Kirby and Ralph. Kodi had only replied with that tone when those two names were mentioned. But Kodi never answered. No reply came from him.

"Kodi?"

Dingo repeated. Looking down at him, one quick glance explained his sudden silence. He had fallen asleep. Maybe he ought to wait until Kodi was better rested. There was just one thing he had to ask him before though. So, lifting a paw up to Kodi's shoulder, he shook him a few times.

"Kodi"

Next thing he knew, Kodi was ontop of him. An anger burning like flames in his eyes. He was completely bewildered. He hadn't expected Kodi to react this way. It scared him. A deep rumbling growl reached his ears and just then, it dawned on Dingo that possibly Kodi was attacking him. But that was nothing like Kodi. Kodi was a pacifest and usually tried to avoid fighting or violence.
Kodi's lips lifted up, showing Dingo his white fangs. Something he never intended on usuing against another dog. As a pup, Kodi had accidentally hurt his sisters ear by biting it too hard. After that he felt like they were better suited toward chewing than biting.

"Dingo! Leave me alone!"

He didn't just say this. He didn't growl it either. He snarled it at the top of his lungs right into Dingos face. Kodi was no longer recognizable. The peace loving dog he'd always been had gone and some vicious dog had taken his place. Dingo squinted his eyes against Kodi's breath rushing against his eyes and his ears fell backwards, trying to block out some of the sound of Kodi's shout. That shout seemed to Dingo loud enough to hear from miles away. His heart rate hate picked up a good deal from shock and a little bit of fear. If this hadn't happened to him and someone told him Kodi had done it, he wouldn't have believed Kodi capable.
Kodi, after finishing his snarling yell, pushed off Dingo and sprinted away. Not headed for anwhere in paticular, just putting space between him and Dingo. His sleepyness was long forgotten now but he was sure it would return later twice as strong. He wasn't concerned about this though. Sleep wasn't even a thought going threw his head.

Dingo was on his paws again. A gloomy expression had taken over as he watched Kodi run. From him. This had all come so fast and unexpectedly, he was at a loss as how to react. Should he run after his brother and try to find out what was wrong? Or should he just let Kodi blow off some steam before questioning him? Either way, he didn't know if Kodi would or wouldn't burn up like this again.

My progress on this fiction is going so slow it's driving me mad.

To be honest, it's taken me so long to get to this point(which really isn't that far at all) that i've forgotten myself. Right now im just going on with him being irratable. Ralph and Kirby got on his nerves and he ended up yelling at them. Dingo got on his nerves and he yelled at him. Dusty. . . well she just chose a bad time.

Anyway, with my recent groundage of 2 weeks, i had nothing to do. But i did manage to write quite a bit of this one down. i would make the update right now, however, i started a scene that I think would be better suited if it were complete before i posted it.

Dusty sat in the snow. Tears welling up in her eyes and blurring her vision. What Kodi had just done was worse than anything she'd expected. He'd always been a friendly dog and she had figured the worst thing that could happen when she made her move on him, was he'd let her down in some easy way. As bad as that had been then, she'd never expected Kodi to growl or show his teeth. Had kissing him really been enough to anger him like this? Or had she just chosen a really bad time to go for it? Either way, she couldn't ignore the pain she felt in her chest now. It was an agony worse than any physical pain she'd yet felt.

She heard him walk away without another word to her. This only made her feel worse. Now Kodi didn't even want to be around her. Way to go Dusty. You just scared off your best friend. Dusty cringed at the thought that Kodi might not like her anymore. Now that she knew how strongly he didn't want to be with her, she was scared to know the answer to the question she kept asking her self. Does he hate me now? She whimpered the whole way out of the alley. Her head low and a frown on her face. Not to mention the endless river of tears that streamed down her cheeks. Just then, she didn't know why, but she recalled a memory. One that she'd held onto for nearly a year now. That day where she had first met Kodi.

He had been such a nice addition to the team. He was really nice and friendly. Not at all shy at introducing himself. His tail had been wagging the whole time he and her, Kirby, and Ralph talked. He even got Gunther, the quiet and shy dog that was positioned behind Ralph on the team, to talk. A small, very small, smile came to her face as the memory played itself out like a movie in her head.

Spring, such a wonderful time of year. Everything seems to come to life in this time of year. The winds always brought signs of it's ever approaching time. When the air looses is cold, frigid, scent and gains the sweet fragrance of flowers along with the aroma of pine sap. Much that disappeared in the winter resurfaces and comes back to life in the Spring. There wasn't much that could be said that really made one dread the spring. How could one not like it? It was the time of year when the land lost it's everlasting whiteness and the world become a much more colorful place rather than the frozen albescent snow. The was no better time to romp and play with friends, to laugh and joke around, and what could be better than spending a night outside under the starry sky with your mate nestled at your side.

The vernal season had come. It's long due arrival had finally come. When the team had been awoken by the sound of their master early in the morning, they could sense it. Though they weren't at all glad to be awoken at such an early hour, they had grown used to this. Only one day a week were they allowed to sleep in. Fortunately, this happened to be a Friday morning. They were all stirred awake by the sound of a whistle from their master.

Ralph was the first one up. Up on his paws and already awaiting the first meal before everyone else had done much more than grumble and roll over. It never took Ralph long to get up in the morning when he knew a meal was mere minutes away. He wasted no time when it concerned food. Kirby was the next one to get up. He stood and yawned, stretching his aged limbs out by the time Dusty had only managed to roll over and moan in discontentment. She had been having such a good dream.

One bleery eye opened for a second before she scowled. She wasn't ready to get up. She wanted to go back to sleep and see that dream again. She tried to hold on to the details so that she might be able to have it again the next night. But, like dreams tended to do, the details were now fading away into nothingness. The harder she tried to hold onto them, that faster they disappeared.

Kirby had heard the sound of Dusty's sleepy moan. It vibrated in his ear, causing him to look over to her. Seeing that she was still laying down and her eyes closed, he started for her. He had to step over Gunther, a gray pelted male that never said anything. He was awake already, boring holes into the wall as he lay there. Lost in his own little world. Kirby had always thought Gunther was a queer fella.(Queer in the sense of odd) He always seemed blissfully unaware of what was really going on in the real world. There was some thoughts in his mind that he might have some mental issues. Or he might just be a mute. Poor guy.

Gunther paied no attention at all as Kirby stepped over his body. He just lay there, motionless. His eyes open, looking at the wall, but not really seeing it. Kirby could have waved his paw infront of his eyes and he'd never know. He had a decent build. Thin and well developed muscles(he is a sled dog afterall) and looked to be healthy. His mental health was a mystery since he never looked focused on anything at all. But right now, Kirby wasn't paying much attention to him. He had reached Dusty and now had his head lowered to her neck and was giving her a few prods with his nose.

"Come on Dusty. Up!"

No doubt, Dusty didn't want or liked to be bothered like this. She lifted one paw and gave his muzzle a weak push away. His nose was cold and, while it was waking her up, she still was trying to hold on the the last few details or that dream. Her efforts were in vein however. With the disturbance and her loss of focus, the dream had vanished almost completely. All she was left with was the memory of a dream she had enjoyed but couldn't remember the details about it. There had been a male dog in it. She knew that, but that was it. She couldn't even remember what color his pelt had been. It might have been red. . . or gray.

"Kirby, please stop"

She said this in an almost begging plead. He had resumed his bothersome nudging and she could hear him chuckling. She turned her head, trying to evade that nose of his as it continued to attack her. But, in the end, she was just wasting her time. Kirby was determined to make sure she got up. She'd pay for sleeping in later if she didn't.

"Get up, and it's a deal"

He knew she was getting annoyed by him. But he just saw it as more reason to continue. He loved annoying her. He never went so far as to cause her to hate him, but he did know how to push her buttons. Dusty however, tried pushing him away again. He just came right back and started attacking her neck again. Finally, she seemed to have gotten the message. Speaking in an annoyed yet still drowsy tone, Dusty lifted her head up.

"Fine"

Kirby ceased his proding while he waited for her to sit up. She still had her eyes half closed and only her head was off the ground. But as he waited, she managed to lift her body up onto her front legs and sit up. Her jaws spreading wide apart as a yawn escaped her. A smirk played itself across his lips.

"Great! Now all we've got to do is run around, pulling a sled for the next eight or so hours"

Dusty wasn't at all pleased with hearing this. She liked her job and all, she just didn't like the whole 'getting up with the sun' stuff. She had spent the first years of her life sleeping in and sitting around with her humans. When they noticed a considerable weight gain in her physic, they put her on the mail team. She was still young and, now, in shape but she doubted she'd ever get used to getting up this early. Kirby had been doing this mail thing his whole life and Ralph wasn't much farther behind.
She glared at him and said lowly "Don't make me hurt you Kirby." It was an empty threat. She'd never hurt Kirby intentionally. They'd been friends too long for her to want to hurt him. Despite how much he could annoy her. He had welcomed her to the team like an old friend he'd not seen in ages. But it wasn't much longer before she really realized what a joker he was. Most of the time he was joking around with Ralph, but he could sometimes be trusted under serious situations. Running the mail can be dangerous at times. She'd already twisted a paw at least twice since she'd joined a little over a year ago.

Well, i didn't exactly finish the scene like i'd hoped. But i wanted to go ahead and post anyway. I would have had the scene done had the floppy i saved it to not messed up. It's wierd. I had to start all the way over from scratch. I got lucky that i'd been making updates, rather than waiting to finish the whole thing before posting it. I probably would have just moved on to my other fiction if i had. Everything in this update, i had to re-write. Hope there's no dissapointments. I was able to slip a little forshadowing in at least :P
