I've done some programming myself and I can say that although parts of it would be difficult it's not impossible to do. The biggest issue I think you would have isn't programming the game (You could probably get away with doing it in VisualBasic.NET or C#...although you'd probably want a better programming app suited to games) the biggest issue would be the graphics, which will either make or break your game. Since all the games in the end would depend on math in some way shape or form.

I've been toying around with a Balto Game idea myself....it's not as in depth but I think it would be fun.....lol I'll have to dust off my programming materials though I haven't touched hardly any of it in over a year. :D

Wow cool! I'm sure we'd all like to see it when your done! Slightly off topic, but have you got any suggestions for some good reading material for begginners?

First you need to figure out what platform you're going to make it on (Windows, Mac OS, or Linux) and then what game engine / language you're going to use. That would be the first step. There's a TON out there so I can't really suggest one or another. If you don't know anything about programming a good place to start learning about basic concepts is VisualBasic.NET 2005 Express which is a FREE download from Microsoft. C# is more advanced it's basically VisualBasic with C syntax. Although keep in mind that VisualBasic.NET and C# (C-Sharp) can make games they really aren’t designed for it. I mean you COULD do it but it would take a ton of work. You’d essentially have to make your own game engine in VB.NET or C#. But if you’re really new to the programming scene then I would seriously suggest VisualBasic.NET to get you started learning the concepts of coding and organization. (Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense! :D ) I'll try to think of some others! PM me if you need anything!

PS Here is an example of a VisualBasic.NET app I did in school http://www.lakoswolf.com/PaycheckPro.zip (It’s not a game though so I guess it’s a bit off topic but it’ll give you an example of a VisualBasic.NET app.) You’ll need to have the .NET framework installed to use it as you would for any .NET app.

Ahh, actually everything you say makes a whole lot of sense. Thanks for the site, I will definantly download that program today. I am new to every aspect of game programming, but I am a fast learner. Thanks for all your help Lakoswolf! :D

You're most welcome! :D Keep me posted! Maybe I can learn a thing or two about more in depth game programming myself! The game I was thinking about is very simple but it would be great if it could be more complex. I donno yet just starting to develop it.

This may sound like a corny video game idea but im going to say it, has anyone played the game Marvel vs Capcom? well here is an idea, they or someone should make Universal vs Walt Disney where kids movie charactors from both Universal and Walt Disney vs each other.

It's kinda corny but interesting.

You mean sort of like Kingdom Hearts? It was a crossover between Disney and Squaresoft, with Disney characters and Squaresoft characters. Only, obviously it would be Universal and Disney.

A Balto game would be good. You should go for it. My uncles good at that sort of stuff, I'd love to make one, but I don't have a very good patience and about the attension span of my dog (and trust me, thats not good!)

What if they a TLK and Balto crossover? Tt's a little corny, but still. And I know I'm getting off topic, so I'll stop now.

Thats an interresting Idea.......but then you get all into copyright issues. You *might* be able to get away with it though.
