Wow.
This is interesting . . . .
Yes, SimbasGuard is correct with the whole genetics thing.
Gah, I have no idea what to say. **speechless**

Aleu is not half wolf.
Balto (50% wolf/50% husky) + Jenna (0% wolf/100% husky) = at least all pups will be 25% wolf/75% husky.
I think that's right.
But I mean, think about it: In sequels in which the hero has children (usually in a litter), it's an automatic given that at least one child will have similar qualities of the "different" one, usually of the father (Lady and the Tramp is a good example of this - Lady and Tramp had four pups, three looked like their mother, while one had the obvious looks and personality of his father).
Thank you, sequel science. ^___~

I agree with ya there, SG. I just think it's confusing with this part: How can an offspring be only a quarter wolf and yet look more wolf than the parent that gave her the wolf gene?
(Not saying that she does look more wolf, but I'm just going with what the film said . . . and I quote "I see daughter that looks more wolf than father." - Boris, to Balto . . . . IMO, Aleu looks as wolf as her dad, not more than him. I mean, she's got the wolf eyes (which Balto didn't have in this film, thanks to the character design), the shaggy fur and colors, and the personality of a young, playful wolf that is confused about her place in the world.)

The alleles for the traits of a wolf from balto must have been recessive since Aleu was the only wolf pup. That would have to mean she had 2 recessives.
Im doing this with Punnet squares. If balto was a hybrid, half dog half wolf, then his parents would both have to be purebreds.
Well, to figure out what exactly aleu's pups would be, we'd have to know if it was a hybrid or not. Though im not exactly sure about that with wolfs.
Lets say aleu was Dw
D being dominant for dog.
w being recessive for wolf.
You cross a Dw with a ww, and you get 50% Hybrids, 50% Purebreds.
So half of their pups would be wolf, while the other half was hybrids like Balto and her.

But wouldn't they all have some wolf? Even if it was only like .000000001% because a parent has wolf in them? I don't know... I can't really remember much of the crossing stuff.....

Only if they inherit the gene. For that to happen, it has to be dominant, or two recessive alleles.
It might sound confusing at first but its really simple.
Ill do it again, except the wolf will be a hybrid as well.
Aleu is Dw still. now we make the wolf Dw as well. (D=dominant(dog) w=recessive(wolf))
cross the two and you get one pup being DD, one being ww, and two being Dw
still 50% Hybrids and 50% Purebreds.
