Very, VERY good point. Steele was far more interested in being noticed for his leadership of the team than getting the medicine to Nome. And he was very willing to allow the children to die, if necessary. He was even prepared to give up entirely on the medicine when things got bogged down.
Had Steele continued to lead the team, if Jenna had fallen for him, and Balto was back brooding and sulking at the boat, then in that scenario, the Nome citizens afflicted by the disease would have died. A very depressing story line, no? In reality, an impossible one to do as a cartoon movie.
Agreed 100%.
Steele was only ever interested in returning to fame and fortune(and hopefully Jenna's heart) while Balto did it for Rosie and all the other children of Nome that he deeply cared about, not to mention his attraction to Jenna.

But, as BaltoSeppala said, it would be an impossible animated film. And, to top it all off, there'd be no Balto Source!
