I completely agree with you, I thought Kodi's character wasn't interesting at ALL. He was very typical. An all-out good guy with beginner's optimism and a good conscience. Big whoop. Although, I didn't like Aleu either, Kodi was definately less interesting.
He WAS built very similar to Balto, tho (minus his ear and tail style) his overall build was basically Balto. So if Kodi were colored different (say like Aleu) he would probably resemble a wolf better.
It also angerfies me that people believe that since Aleu LOOKED mroe wolf than Kodi, that she IS more wolf than Kodi. Which is NOT true at all. They both have the same amount of wolf blood in them as each other and any of their other siblings. Which was another thing that made Kodi rather dull. They treated him more like a dog than a wolf, which is SOMEWHAT understandable, seeing as he was probably raised more towards dogs than wolves. But even so, he's still part wolf.
His personality needed ALOT of work (which is why I wrote Buried Secrets) and he did NOT make WoC very interesting at all. It could have done well without him, but Im still glad that we got to see at least one other offspring of Balto -_-

Yes, it does! I can't believe you of all people would ask that! Of COURSE they need to be special (whereas Kodi wasn't very special, the only cool thing about him was the bridge of his nose and the fact that he was Balto's son)! That's what makes them interesting!
So yes, i like kodi. But i like alue better... sorry
