Let's see... I want to overanalyze this as much as I can.
First, let's think about the possible directions that they went in leaving Nome. They could not have gone south, Nome is right next to the ocean on the southern border. West is unlikely as well, its far enough for Aleu and Balto to have traveled, but there is no possible way they could have passed the Bering sea. That's the only real thing to cross in the west, unless they all want to jump across ice in a circle...
Now, that leaves north and east. North is pretty unlikely as well, because it's too far for a wolf-dog, or even a wolf, to travel in just a couple days. Anyhoo, that means they headed east. Okay, now that's we've gotten this far, let's think. The ice bridge seemed fairly short, since the caribou were able to cross it, I'd say no more than a kilometer of ice or so. (wierd, isn't it? How ice makes a bridge?) So, that means they crossed something relatively short.
So take a look at the map provided below. The black line represents the land course they went, and the red shows the crossing of water. I know the red line is a bit too long, but paint shop was being annoying. -_- Anyway, I think that the ice would probably lead to another point of land in Alaska, so if they just go around the little inlet, Aleu could be home quite easily, I'd say it'd take her four-five days. -_-
That's my take on it. ^^

Personally I believe that she and the pack crossed the ice safely. Instead of finding a mate and having pups, Aleu decides to strengthen her packs loyalty to her for two reasons:
1) She is a very new leader.
2) Having pups means remaining in a den or other safe birthing place for two weeks or more after her pups are born. While she is tending to her young, she would need to know the pack will stay together and not go off into splinter groups.
Anyway, a year later, she meets a handsome new member of their pack named Kemen (from my newly finished story, A New Life) and they fall in love. When mating season comes, they (being the alpha couple) decide to have pups.
I'll think of more later...
Wow, this would make a great story! (Is that all you think about?)
*silence*
Uhh........

"I am a fox so i dont really know how a wolf lives a life, but it might go like this:"
Alue and the pack crossed safly. After about 3 to 4 months (so that Alue could spend some time with the pack and to get to know them) She sees a wolf that has been hurt. She helps him, they fall in love, have pups. Then one day when the pups are older they get lost in a blizzard. The pup were able to see an old boat (take a guess at wich boat that is), so to get away from the storm they spend the night in it. After the storm they wake up and see Boris. Boris, needing help with the pups, gets Balto. Balto takes a fast sniff a the pups and is able to tell that they are Alue's (Even though he never seen them befor)
Balto agrees to help look for Alue. Balto, the pups, and Boris see Alue and the pack at the top of a waterfall. Alue sees them but slips and falls from a rock into the water. Balto is able to save Alue befor she fell from the waterfall. After the that Balto is being thanked by the pack and the pups get to go home.
"Remember, this story came from a FOX not a WOLF, so wich means that it could of happend diffrently"
