all dogs, especially huskies, have some sort of wolf heritage. Jenna may even be a little wolf-ish

Here's my two cents in this:
I think Dusty could probably be a half-wolf . . . or a quarter-wolf at least. I mean, she howls, her look is similar to Aleu's (mainly her markings; she's not as rugged-looking as Balto and Aleu were), and since nothing about her past is mentioned, anything is possible.
Besides, if a half wolf and a purebred could have a normal litter with pups that can pass as normal huskies and some that could pass as an actual wolf, then anything is possible.
Or maybe if she were taken from the wild sometime after birth, she could have been raised as a husky even though she was born a pure wolf.
Meh. No one will ever know this for a fact though, but it's worth a guess.

Well, alot of dogs/wolves in the movie have similar markings, Aleu's/Balto's/Dusty's/Kodi's etc are all basic marking archetypes in huskies/wolves.
I can think of alot of other characters that howl too, I think we are concentrationg too much on just the similarities in Aleu And Dusty and forgetting that most of what we mention are very general features.

Personally I think the animators just gave her a different apparence. I don't think they would care enough to make this character or that character other then the few main leads have much of a background.

No... Dusty doesn't look like a wolf at all, similar markings to Aleu indeed but she is a dog. She juts has the typical and simple look of a husky, although a peculiar shape, stance, and muzzle, but still, no wolf found in the forest. She probably has some wolf in her, but not a wolf purely herself.

I can’t remember right off the top of my head but a study was conducted to see how much gray wolf is in the average dog and I forgot what percentage they found. But I do remember them saying that the domesticated dog was a descendant of the gray wolf.
