I haven't sent anything in outside of BS, but the updates there seem to be at a pretty decent pace (avg 3-4 days, depending on the item). But I would have to agree in that it's just a matter of the mods being busy, and the most active Sources get updated first. That seems like a logical conclusion.

Kirada left in part because she got very busy, yes. And in part because she became as frustrated with this place as many of us have been. She got tired of holding out hope when nothing good was forthcoming. And I hardly blame her. And she's not the only one. Many good people have left this site for those reasons (and many bad ones too, but as far as I am concerned they don't matter).

I am consistently bothered by the notion (no matter who says it)...whether it's intended as an implication or as a flat-out statement, that people who spend time on this site don't have "real lives". Visiting or spending time on a fan site does not ever imply or infer that a person does not have a life outside of it.

Again, if you (whomever you may be) have outside responsibilities or interests that are distracting you from doing a job you agreed to do, regardless of its voluntary nature (a volunteer position), then you have an obligation to resign from it...not hold onto it. The only reason someone would hold onto the position in the face of pressing outside responsibilities is because they enjoy what they seem to think is the "prestige" that comes with the position ( sarcastic  ), or because they actually do enjoy the limited control the position gives them over other members, especially those they don't particularly happen to care for.

And that's a problem.

I understand that I can resign almost whenever I want. Zuko and Kirda did it without hesitation. I do care for the site, I am an older member and have seen its ups and downs. I would hate to see this site collapse and will do anything to keep it from doing so. I am very busy in the real world. Though as I said, I keep my position because I care for the site and am a fan. Not for, prestige, as you could call it. When do any mods do this for prestige, if you think this, I believe you are mistaken.

To add to what Moss said, do you guys want us to resign? I keep getting that vibe when you say ''well if you don't think you're up to it then just quit''. You REALLY think that will make things better? Isn't MORE mods a better idea instead of less? And I certainly don't mod for 'prestige'. I do it because I have friends here, and I have history with this site. It's the only one that's ever felt like a real community to me, and I want it to be a great place for the friends I've made here to continue enjoying, or even invite THEIR friends too. So terribly sorry you don't get weekly selections. Sorry we're a bit late on approving (sometimes rules are broken and things are actually NOT approved) images, fics, fan art, etc. Sorry we don't waste enough of our lives here for you. But we do try. And we have taken suggestions and every post here into consideration. We have decided to attempt updating selections more (if the source in question is active enough for it that is), and we've taken more measures to try and get more help. What else can we do for you? Beats me, but I'm sure you'll tell us.

I'm not accusing everyone of calling us 'terrible mods' or the like. I'd just like to make it clear that things are always changing, and hopefully for the better. So just bear with us.

No one is asking for specific resignations. They are asking for voluntary ones IF the mods in question (whomever they are) see no priority in doing the jobs they agreed to doing.

I think that's unfair, and an overreaction. No one said that you aren't putting this site before your personal lives. Let's not turn it into that by spin doctoring this into something it isn't.

Doesn't what you said in this snippet directly contradict your complaint I just quoted above? I think everyone who has posted (for the most part) believes that the key is to add MORE mods, and probably to resume the source-specific mod assignments, rather than general, broad-spectrum moderating, which is clearly overwhelming existing staff members. One mod JUST got to several reports I filed within the last two to three MONTHS. That's a long wait. And by then, in the case of shoutbox reports, the log had moved on so much that there was no way for the mod to look back at the chat log without clicking through many pages of records, which is time-consuming and exasperating. He suggested that the members ought to be taking screen shots of such things. Not to pick on him (REALLY), but now reports themselves are not enough? Hell, even with the questionable nature of many staff members of the past, at least when there was source-specific moderating, reports were generally able to be responded to quicker.

We want MORE mods. We want source-specific duties. Not broad-spectrum moderating limited to less than twenty people (for a site this big). But the problem is that STEET has to assign new mods (as far as I am aware). And I think we know the end run there. Given that, I think we're entitled to more than a little frustration.

If sections are not being updated, either you need mods who are on at certain times or to add new ones that can help lift the burden on the current staff. Things like "They're trying" "they have lives" are true points, but the deed is not being completed either way.

A ideal plan would be to see which potential mods are on most at what times, say:

Memb1 : Is on alot during the early mornings
Memb2: Is on during late mornings
Membe:3 is on during the general evenings

And see how it works. The goal is to add enough to have a even flow going - you can't ask the current ones to drop what they're doing to be on during a certain time, however if you honestly want the site to be well managed, you need to add more mods. A time schedual would be ideal (not required because its silly to have a 'set' time for a kids site) because it can help organize who becomes mods.

Adding more mods for certain timese will make sure the updates will be consistant, and it will lessen the stress on the overall staff.

Knowing ahead who will be on what for a vacation day will also allow the staff to seek a mod to cover their "shift" so to speak.

I am aware this sounds laughable, a time schedual for a staff on a kids site, however its a easy, organazied way to solve a problem. Although it is ridiculous that the websites were left in such poor conditions.

Woo, the all-mighty Question returns and strikes again! *bro-hoof*

But in all seriousness, she does have a really good point. I had read through this topic when I was bored and in the end it just frustrated me. But really, the only site I usually see updated is Balto Source. Not even TLKS gets its active light anymore. Not even the "Fan of the Week" stuff gets changed. Literally every piece of those, including the fanart, have been up there unmoving since the big staff change. It's not like site builders have permission to change those; at least I don't. (Shall I also mention that the shout box topic line on there still welcomes "the new staff" written by Anubis since last year during July when things were still all great and dandy.) We all have lives outside of AS, that's true. But even with a short staff there should be a lot more progress being made rather than just activation/deactivation. It's hard and it's busy, I know. That's why the idea of a shortened staff was a terrible idea in the first place. Someone needs to get a webmaster on this topic to assess some much-needed changes. It's not only no updates from the staff, but also no bug fixes. It's all a huge fault and it's certainly dragged people away. (Heck, my message about me being a moderator is also still up because steet, as the only forum administrator, never bothered to put it back up.)

Really needs to be changed to "Fan of the Month".

What do we do again? I mean we're kinda just there. We don't do anything lol.

Steet now has a schedual, he's on Mondays like at 6. Isn't it grand that the site needed to hassle a webmaster to come on certain times?

Instead of complaints, we (well really the staff rotfl) need to make changes. Be it from adding another English webmaster to manage the staff or a new staff (additions) without supervision, any of these is better than not doing anything.

Also, since people want work updated NAO, if you really want a artwork, or story, or image to be activated, use these sites:
Art: http://www.deviantart.com/
http://photobucket.com/
Stories: http://www.deviantart.com/
http://figment.com/
Images: http://www.deviantart.com/
These sites have a system where your work will be up instantly, now you don't have to wait on the staff here! Just show your buddy or link it to them what you want them to see! All of these sites have a comment system, and dA and figment have a group system. So its like BS but y'know..self help thing. Enjoy ya'all! ; )

That could work if done right. I'm not sure if I would be a good mod, but I'm usually on almost every evening.

I'd point out that I am on a LOT late mornings (from a U.S. point of view and time frame anyway), and it seems the only other moderator on at that time, more or less, is Rio. Seems to me he could use some help. BUUUUT...

...whether or not steet would ever go for that option is problematic.

But I am available. And willing. Have done it before, and did it well. And would do it again. And hey - if there is a pool of willing people wanting to help, I think we need to break with the questionable tradition, on this site, of "if you ever ask to be a mod, you'll never get there" (which is stupid).

I'm on most of the time ever day (I'm from the U.S.), and about everyone knows I was a mod at one point. Heck, people tell me all the time that I SHOULD still be a mod. I'm not bragging or anything, just saying. I would be willing to be a mod again myself.

The only thing could possibly slow me down, which would probably not even make a difference if I were to be a mod again, would be the Humane Society I volunteer at. I may end up going in more during the summer months, I'm not sure. But I doubt that it would take up any more of my time than it is now.

My my it seems like there is so many potential mods! You all should inform steet about this so action can be taken.

I used to be a mod. I don't mind if I'm added or not. Not my decision. But I'd help if added.

I agree with you. There's lulls in site activity usually around 1-4 in the morning for most US timezones, there may be one or two people talking, but usually there is no mod there, Brown Wolf is occasionally, but I doubt she wants to stay up until 3 XD.

And to quote Batman:

Well thank you. lol But as to the time frame you mentioned, I am pretty sure it requires a very specific set of search parameters for the right fit. There is a usual mix of only about seven, maybe eight, people who are generally on around that time. And few of those are on consistently enough to hold a staff position in my opinion. A few others are either too n00bish or immature.

Very true, and the others I doubt really care for a position like that anyway.
