I can only speak on the image galleries since that's my home. I'll apologize in advance because my brain is working on fumes. Graphic design is an art unto itself. It takes planning, trial and error, placement, a handle on colors and a basic knowledge of how to make your program do what you want it to do. I look up to some of BS's fantabulous graphic artists like Fiddlefox, Roi Doberwolf, and MightyBalto1925. I still get inspiration from them years and years after into getting into graphic design. I'd love to see more Balto graphics not only from them but from other members. I know those three will keep climbing and reaching new heights; but I will never see that from the majority of other members on BS. Why? Because nobody cares about Balto anymore. If you're not in the rendering and character game, you're a nobody in the fan image world. Most of the image galleries are like Kay Fedewa lineart colored as Balto characters just to get past the "first image must be Balto" rule and then go on a paintbucket and blank render spree of their own original characters. I will not apologize for saying this; filling in blank lineart or traced renders on MSPaint takes no talent to do. None. Zilch. Zero. Nada. I would go so far as to say you're not a fan image artist if you're just coloring in your own characters. Fan image implies you are paying homage to the film's characters. Not yours. The movie's. It's not a "fan image of Balto" if it's just Balto colored pink and named Moonclaw Bloodfang or something. It's depressing to watch BS's fan image artists stagnating in talentless and effortless endeavors all while completely dishonoring their source material. Because I see so many character render artists who clearly have some form of artistic talent yet they choose to waste it on tracing. It's sad.

I can't agree at all... Just compare those two: http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en ... display=18http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en ... display=18Then say both have the same skills, especially that Esca, En Grade, Demeter or Hecate have completely no talent and imagination... But yeah, I agree that too many people forget about Balto and sometimes they post random image of Balto character complaining of how they can't add more renders if they don't make required Balto-related image...

I think we all may need to realize one thing where steet is concerned. Based on at least one thing we pointed out here, which is seen by MOST of us as a rather obvious problem, steet has another mindset. That is the question of whether or not dead source sites matter. WE believe dead means DEAD. That it's dead space, and that even if one or two or ten people are posting in it once in a blue moon, that does not mean it's worth taking up space.
Steet, on the other hand, has said many times that the lack of activity on many of these sources is irrelevant to him. That people might go and look around, and be brought to Animation Source by seeing one of the sources on a browser search, and that this alone makes their being there worthwhile. A strange point of view, but then, he IS the webmaster. I don't think any of us are going to override his thought process on this.
Just sayin'...

You guys are pointing out examples, so shall I. And this is NOT meant to pick on the person who created this, but I think this is what it has come to (and will probably worsen as this thing becomes increasingly polarized). And that's why I have noted this link...only to demonstrate that this IS becoming very polarized (and this page demonstrates that fact conclusively). I might add that the first comment by another person in there is typical of the kind of "I'm gonna get you for criticizing my friend's stuff, dude!" which is absolutely, patently ridiculous:http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/view_fanart/Ritsuka_Samono_Don_t_hate_what_I_create/335.html&numart=2422#msg_id757836

Just sayin'... I actually wouldn't be for getting rid of the "dead" sources, just stopping after the new ones are built so we can focus on the current ones. Quality over quantity you know. In the sense that web-ranking needs to be done in order to get people of the respective fanbase to go there. Not just roleplay happy ones that don't really give a care for the movie. For example, I love CDDS, it's "dead" yes, but I still go on there and plan on posting content when I get more time, if you worked so hard on something (I was a builder) you're not going to want to see it canceled or deleted. So I do see his point of view there. I just wish we weren't in a such a big hurry to expand. Whatever sources that are still only thoughts and not digitized in the web should be put on the "virtual shelf" so to speak until the other ones start becoming more successful. The only thing I find more annoying than a gallery full of sparkles is the person behind them who spends a good amount of time trying to parade their character around like it's something special that belongs on Balto Source. No matter how many times you link to a render, guess what, it's still a render : P Not a drawing, just something you colored in that wasn't yours. Much equivalent to a small child showing his mom the coloring page he just marked all over. Sometimes the renders aren't even Balto related, it may be a render over Balto, but specific to their character's little world that it's in. And that is an issue.

Anyone can feel free to scold me if they feel I was being unfair but that comment really ticked me off. Sorry, but my personal stance is that I would rather see 378139139183091 copies of Kiona than millions of these sparkledogs. At least copies of the red-faced pup from Balto 2 have something to do with the Balto series.

Oh yeah, this TOTALLY belongs on here. http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en ... 36520.html I'm a religous person, and I tend to find his stuff offensive. I have reported a couple of his drawings, one was deactivated (his fursona trying to murder Steele. The drawing wasn't violent, but the description was. The other drawing still appears to be up) His dogs/wolves is what I consider to be demonic.

Just be prepared for a litany of abuse from that person (not the person who created that...er..."art", but the person to whom you addressed your reply). Trust me on that. Now, I know you can handle it. So can I. But it is a foregone conclusion that she's gonna come back at you with something...

I'm terrified, Jersey. Really. xD
In all seriousess, abusive comments aren't really going to get their point across any better: Balto and sparkledogs have nothing to do with each other. Period. It'll also be underlining my belief that anyone who does support their existence on this site is an overly-sensitive and immature person who probably got chased off DA or FA because of having a sparkledog character. There was nothing rude about my comment - I was a bit bitter in it, yes, but that's it - so that person can feel free to throw unprovoked abuse at me to just prove that unneeded drama is dragged onto this site because of this issue.
Also, 'don't like it, don't look at it' comments really get to me. Balto Source or even Animation Source for that matter is not a private domain for people and their sparkledog characters, there are thousands of members here and not every single one of them (I think I am about a majority, aren't I?) will like looking at eye-cancer inducing MS Paint disasters. Harsh truth but truth nonetheless. :/
Mighty - Ketamine was not developed until the 1960's so the name alone is stupid. I'm being nitpicky here but characters named after drugs in the Balto universe have to have some research put into them at least, at least Dali was alive and painting in that period. ROFL

And believe me, I have NEVER liked or taken seriously any of those "don't like, don't comment" and/or "don't like, don't read", or "it's just the internet, who cares?", or "it's called 'fan-shipping', deal with it" or ANY of that garbage.
