Agreed, that would be awesome. But wouldn't that be kind of overestimating the directors? XD

It is unknown what has become of them. Not only are they not seen in Wolf Quest or Wings of Change, but they're not mentioned either.

A lot of them made cameo appearances in WOC, actually. I remember seeing Kaltag, Rosy, and the St. Bernard, and it's been said that Nikki, Star, and maybe one or two other characters appeared as well.

As "Ever The Dreamer" stated above, some of the characters made indistinct cameo appearances after the Balto movie. Especially in Balto 3: Wings of Change.
