Twilight looked around in surprise. "I wonder why it took the Element barers to open that door... There doesn't seem like there's anything here that would need that much security."
"Why would Celestia's castle have traps in it?" asked Rarity, dusting the totem but knocking it off the shrine by accident. It pulsed briefly with violet light.
Fluttershy tried to catch it but fumbled and sent it towards Pinkie Pie. As she did, it pulsed with pink energy dully.

Pinkie Pie wouldn't be paying attention, but noted the pink glow. She picked up the necklace and would actually put it on! She snickered.
Applejack took it. "Pinkie!" she cried as it started to glow orange in her hoof. She flung it up towards Rainbow Dash.
Rainbow Dash caught it and cringed in shocked when it started to glow a soft blue color. She threw it. "Twilight, heads up!"

Twilight finally caught it. "That's enough, everypony, we don't even know what this thing is," said Twilight as it began to glow first reddish purple like her Cutie Mark, then all the colors of the rainbow. "What?" she asked, looking at as it suddenly floated into the air, a rainbow aura surrounding it and glowing. Twilight backed up, eyes wide with shock as the totem floated upwards.
The energy took the form of a simular rainbow as the Elements normally let off as it formed an energy sphere around the totem, which began to crack, red smoke slinking out and taking on a form. A bright flash of light blinded the group.
Twilight blinked, her vision a tad blurry from the flash. However, she gasped, backing up in fear at the form before her, a pony like head atop of snake-like body composed of various animals. "D-Discord?!" she yelled, terror in her tone as she backpeddled.

Each girl looked on in shock as the totem floated and cracked. There were screams of shock at the bright light. It even sent Rainbow Dash to the ground. At the mention of Discord though, she was up, but woozy. "Wha? Dicord?!" she cried out, ready ot fight.

"What?!" asked the Draconequus, as everypony's eyesight cleared, revealing that he looked little like Discord outside of general body shape and having a pony's head, which had uniform eyes, snake-like fangs, and elk antlars, but looked more michevious than anything else. His fur was dark reddish brown and the animals composing his body were different as well. His right arm was that of a bear, his left a coyote's paw. His left wing was a ravens' while his right a brown bat's, one of his legs being a dear's, the other a grey wolf, a skunk's tail were Discord had a snake's.
The being looked himself over and growled in annoyence. "Of course, my rotten brother would seal me away in my true form," he said, snapping his fingers and transforming in a flash of red light into a reddish brown coyote with inuit beeds around his neck. "I'm not Discord, I'm just the same species. I HATE my true form, everyone always is afraid of me because a certain member of our species plunged the world into unending chaos and suffering."

Rainbow seemed to not believe him, and snorted. "Yeah, like we're supposed to believe that you're all not as bad? No doing!"
Applejack, though, looked at him. She didn't say anything, but seemed very thoughtful. "Hold on, Rainbow. We should at least hear him out." she said. "I don't think he's lyin'."

Twilight looked at the Draconequus, glaring at him uncertainly and with suspecion. "Alright, go on."
The Draconequus nodded. "My name is Sakak, the Spirit of Mischief. And if you must know, it was Discord who locked me in that totem in the first place, for aiding in his downfall," he explained, then gasped. "He was lost, right?! Did Celestia and Luna win?! Are they alright?!" he asked, seemingly concerned.
Twilight's eyes widened. "You were there when the Princesses beat Discord? That's over 1000 years ago!"
"Princesses?" asked Sakak. "Little Sunshine and Moonbeam are royality now? My, a lot has changed..." he stated in surprise, looking at the picture of the fillies.

Pinkie Pie looked shocked, and stared up at the same painting. "So wait wait wait! That painting is of you and the princesses?!" she asked and smiled wide. "They're SOOOO cute!" she said, gushing over the two.
Applejack was just as surprised. "Well, ya don't look that old. Why did Discord lock ya away?"

Twilight's eyes widened. "That's Celestia and Luna?!" she asked, shocked.
"Of course, everybody was a child once, even me and Discord," said Sakak. "Though that was eons ago," he said, before looking at Applejack. "Draconequi can't die of old age, we're kind of immortal, though there are ways to kill us... As for your other question, it's a rather long story. You see, long ago, there were a great many spirits who took charge over the forces of nature. The Draconequi represented concepts, such as chaos, mischief, or temptation. We, even Discord, had our role in the harmony of the world along with the other spirits who controled nature."
"B-but Discord's disharmony! How can he fit into harmony with ANYTHING?" asked Twilight, in utter disbelief.
"Yes, well he wasn't ALWAYS disharmony, he used to be the Spirit of Chaos, we renamed him the Spirit of Disharmony after what he did," said Sakak, fury in his face at the memory. "Wait... How do you know so much about Discord? Come to think about it, how did you even free me? Only the Elements of Harmony can free me, and Celestia and Luna have them."

Applejack looked to Sakak again, surprised. "Well, shoot! That monster was actually good fer somethin'?" she asked, cocking her eyebrow.
Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes. "I don't believe it. I still say this all a bunch of horse feathers. We shouldn't trust this guy."

"Now hang on! I said Discord USED to have a role in harmony, not any more, not ever again," said Sakak, angry. "Discord got greedy, he got powermad and wanted the world all to himself... So he started picking off the rest of us, one by one at first," he said, giving a sad look. "We didn't realize it was him until all the spirits who were powerful enough to stop him were already destroyed... The rest of us were picked off like flies..." he recounted, looking sorrowful for the first time sense free. "When he was done, only five remained, three of the Draconequi, myself included, and the Spirits of the Sun and the Moon, who he still persued. The remaining one of the Draconequi was his mate, the Spirit of Temptation, don't worry, I took care of her before Discord was dealt with..."
"Discord had a mate?!" asked Twilight, both disgusted and shocked at the same time. "Wait... Why did he spare you?"
"You know how some ponies have a big sibling who loves to just make their little sibling miserable?" asked Sakak. "Discord is mine. And before the Rainbow one says anything, imagine having that monster as your big brother bully for EONS."

Applejack listened intently. "Sun and Moon...?" she gasped, thinking about it. "But the Princesses control the sun and moon." she said, still seeming not to make any sort of connection.
Rainbow Dash blinked, eyes surprised. But she still tried to hold onto her look of disdain and indifference. It wasn't working, but she was able to stay quiet. Being bullied for eons sounded terrible though.

"Observant, I like that," said Sakak, getting back to the story. "When the Sun and Moon Spirits realized they couldn't run from Discord any longer, they channeled all their power into two Alicorn fillies, granting them power over the sun and moon as well as immortality. You see, back then, the Alicorns were the beings in charge of the ponies directly, their duty was to protect and watch over you all, like angels so to speak," he explained. "They then gave those two fillies to me to keep safe, and I went into the Everfree Forest with them to protect them. You know those two fillies very well from what I can gather."
Twilight's head spun at the revolation presented by this ancient spirit to her. "But... IF there used to be a whole species of Alicorns, what happened?" she asked, afraid of the answers.
Sakak sighed in sorrow. "Discord didn't take being tricked very well, he was determined to destroy the two Alicorns possessing the Sun and Moon Spirit's powers." he said, giving a sad look. "Unfortunately, as you can guess, that didn't end very well for the Alicorns..."
Twilight gasped. "... Celestia and Luna... They're the last of their kind?" she asked, getting a sad nod. Tears filled her eyes as she imagined the pain her mentor and mother figure, as well as her friend Luna, had to feel over that fact.

"Do you still think he's lyin', Rainbow?" Applejack asked, holding her hat to her chest. It made her feel awful, to think about all the horrible things Discord had done.
Rainbow Dash frowned, her forehooves still crossed. But she seemed quite able to believe it. She was quite upset herself- their beloved Princesses had lost their whole kind?

Fluttershy had predictably burst into tears when that truth was known.
After a moment of silence, Rarity finally spoke. "Why was the Everfree Forest safe? No offense, but a bizare forest full of monsters doesn't seem like a good place to raise fillies."
"Well you see, for the very reasons the Everfree Forest is a dangerous place, it was also the safest place from Discord," explained Sakak. "You see, the Everfree Forest is just that, forever free. NOTHING can effect how it works, even a reality warper like my brother and me," he continued. "So it's the one place in the world me and Discord were on equal footing, and the thing is, we knew the place a lot better than he did," he stated, then laughed. "Why one time, I made this blue plant that causes all these wierd effects on anyone who touches it, based off Poison Ivy. I tricked Discord into falling into it face first! He was stuck running around the Everfree Forest the size of a mouse for three weeks until his mate got him! I wish you could've seen the look on his face!" he said, laughing his head off.
