Madness looked at Lara. "Who said there was anyone to be a hero. If anyone should be a hero, it would be the God of Food, Garth," she joked. The she-wolf slowly crept forward.

"What I said earlier isn't that important now. And I guess I'll distract it or something," Lara paused thinking. She could probably manipulate the elk's mind long enough or make it stand pefectly still long enough for Madness or Nix to kill it. She turned her head slightly to look at Nix. "We do have males in our pack. Sane and Sanity." Lara blinked. "Although, we could do with more guys," She snickered softly. "Well, lets do this," with a sigh Lara trailed after her leader.

Madness trotted forward and glanced at lara. Get into his mind, buddy. She waited for the flick of a tail as the signal, and crouched lower into the tall grass, head down, eyes wide, shoulders ready, ears flat, and body in kill-mode.

Lara stared at the elk for a few seconds then closed her eyes. She pricked her ears. At the click of huge, stone-like hooves she was in. Pain and sickness shrouded the elk's head. Ssshhh. Stop moving. Lie down and sleep... You'll feel better if you do. Lara thought, pricking her ears even higher. The clicking stopped and the elk's breathing eased. It'll be okay now... Just hold still... Lara flicked her tail, hoping she'd chosen the right moment.

Lara heard the elk's hooves click again. No! If you want this sickness to end just stop moving. You're abusing your energy and your power... And you are a very strong elk so why waste it? She thought in a flattering tone. Truth is, the elk looked like it had taken a beating and was on the last legs of its life. She heard the elk cough twice. Hush now. Just don't even move. I know you want to stop wheezing and hacking every few feet, so just relax, my friend. It'll pass soon enough Lara heard the coughing stop, as did the hoof-clicking.

Lara flicked her tail over and over again. Now.

Madness suddenly lunged out of the grass, and in midair, roared, "Now!" She ran around the elk and aimed for the front. She lunged and took the elk by the neck, hearing the scream of the bull.

Lara heard the elk scream its deep, throaty yell. She could feel the panic setting in inside the elk's head. Shhhh. It's nothing, only a fly. The elk relaxed a bit, then pain flared again. Lara had to grit her teeth- the pain echoed in her own skull. Quiet, it's okay, it's alright. I made a mistake, it was a wasp, must've stung you. You'll be fine, it's only a little bite. Just stay still to make sure the stupid bug is gone. Lara soothed in her sweetest tone. There was a moment of silence, then a loud bleat. The elk's mind went black.

Madness and the elk fell into the tall grass, out of sight. There was some bleating and snapping, two legs kicked the air, and a gray figure barked and pounced down into the elk. The tall grass quivered. The two creatures were tussling, both fighting for life. Even Madness was tense as she fought to keep herself uninjured. A husky tail was seen a bit through the parted blades, and the huge antlers of the elk seemed to vibrate in a short seizure, then both figures were still.

Madness looked up from her kill. The elk herd was stampeding towards them. She crouched low as the elk began to jump over her and trample her food. She put a forcefield around herself and the dead elk, crouching even lower and shutting her eyes as she heard the stampede's hooves against her shield, making a huge BUMP.

BUMP.

BUMP BUMP BUMP--

BANG!

A bull elk had rammed into her shield, seeing Madness as a threat. Although she was an optimistic leader, she though for sure she was a goner as the bull kept trying to get to her.
