So Universal has to think like a genius to make Balto series a big hit?

Guys, as interesting as it would be for Universal to make a Balto 4, or even a series - which after the great failure of Land Before Time as a series and waaayyyy too many movies - it just simply will not happen. In light of this, it's why fan fiction is around. To do what Universal never will.

It is sad that Universal messed up the Balto franchise and could not continue.

If I could make a Balto 4 I'd have a few ideas in mind.

1. (This is the one I'd most likely go for) We'd get to meet all of Balto's other kids and at the same time Aleu and her pack would return to Nome and we'd have a little family reunion and all the characters from the first movie would also get to star in it as well But it's soon learned that a great catastrophe threatens Nome and it's up to Balto and all his friends and family to save Nome.

2. We'd get to learn about Balto's childhood such as how he was separated from his parents, how he ended up in Nome, and how he met Boris, Jenna, Muk, Luk, Steele, and all the other characters from the first movie.

3. We'd get to see what Balto's life was like after he saved Nome

For number one it's not gonna be very popular probably a million or less.

This. This perfectly sums up how I feel about this. With fan fiction, the fans are free to write anything they wish. The stories don't have to be all watered down to make them kid friendly either, which in some cases just makes things better than anything the Universal folks could come up with.

On topic, if I was convinced/forced to work on a Balto 4 project, I wouldn't limit myself to just a movie. I would retool it into a series that would be mainly web-based. I also wouldn't work on it alone - I'd bring in other fan writers to contribute ideas. The resultant series could be a serial, with one continuing storyline. One thing I've been interested in is what happened right after the first movie. How did Balto adjust from being an outcast to being the hero of Nome? Were there any other challenges he would have to face after the serum run?

Alternately, the series could take the form of an anthology, with a set of self-contained stories, each written by a different writer who may have their own unique take on the setting and characters. Either way, a series like this could tap into all the creative potential of the fanbase. Making it an independent web-based series would allow us to circumvent any restrictions/additions that TV executives would surely put on something they would view as having to be 'kid friendly'.

Why did Universal mess up Balto?

Couldn't they make it a different and better story?

They don't have to think so hard, actually, they don't think, they pay others to think when it comes to advertising and making the movie story, and it wouldn't take a lot to grab people's attention, but really it just comes down to money..... and maybe good ratings

Not true. When Animation Source's Sourcecast interviewed Phil Weinstein, the director of the Balto sequels, he flat-out said that he loved making the films because of the story and not because of the money. He heavily implied that he would probably do another Balto sequel even if he didn't get paid--something I think a lot of other crewmembers would feel. Really, the only people who DON'T want another Balto sequel are the Universal executives.

I may have some ideas for a Balto 4 movie.

So how about telling us what they are rather than just saying? That's the whole point of this topic.
