The old demon was too fragile to hold onto the shield. Sango's boomerang knocked the shield out of the old demon's hands and it landed in the middle of the room.

Kagome rushed towards the center of the room and grabbed the shield, pulling it away and examined it closely. The light...it was a Jewel shard!
"Aha!" Cried Inuyasha, "No more protection for you! Wind scar!" Another flash of yellow lights erupted out of Tetsusaiga as it swung.

Inuyasha fell to the ground facefirst before he could finish the attack. "W...why'd ya do that?" he rasped darkly.
"Yeah, Kagome. Why did you stop him?" questioned Sango.
"This shield...it contains a Jewel Shard!"

Miroku used his staff to whack the back of Inuyasha's head, while Shippo had a smug look at seeing Inuyasha being scolded by humans younger than him!
