Alright, after months of putting it off despite the excellent things I've heard about it, I finally gave in and watched the pilot. All I can say is...wow...just wow.

Going into this, I had to get over the whole "I'm a guy, this is a girl show" thing before I even watched it, so I knew I'd be going into it on a balanced basis. I didn't go into it thinking about the hype or the sterotype, I went into it thinking "this is a show I've heard good things about, I like the creator, so I'll give it a shot". Before the openning shot with Twilight Sparkle was finished I knew there was just something unique about this show. I think what makes it special is despite what it's about, it's got likeable characters that aren't just focused in one direction. The only character who is really "girly" is Rarity, and she showed from the start her hidden depths. None of the characters are two dimmensional, and that's to the show's credit. Even Nightmare Moon is complex and a great villain. I think the thing I'd praise so highly about this show is the characters aren't just what you see at a first glance and within seconds of getting to know them you can realize that, even if you don't know what the rest of them is.

The writing is also what I liked. There's subtitle, but very nice touches that you don't realize until giving it thought. For example, Nightmare Moon could've just showed up when the curtain was pulled, revealing Celestia was gone for some reason. But that's not what happened, time was taken to show the cast reacting to it and letting the realization something happened set in first. Because of that, you're thrown off when Nightmare Moon does show up because you expected her to show up, but she didn't. At that point, you're briefly thrown off your train of thought and don't know where, when, or how she'll show up in this scene or if she will at all. And that impressed me, as it was a small, minute touch that really helpped the build up of what could've been a very predictable scene.

I know I mentioned Nightmare Moon a good bit, but I just really like the character. She was powerful, cunning, and complex. But what I like most about her was simply the sense of dread she carried. She was a villain that had this air about them that when they show up, bad things are going to happen. And that's why I really like her, that's the kind of prescence a villain SHOULD have if they're intended to be remotely threatening. I'd even go far as to say she's made my list of favorite villains, probably around 3 or 2 on the list.

Does it live up to the hype? Kind of. If you go into it WITH that kind of hype on your mind, you'll probably be let down. But if you take a break and clear your mind of that before watching it, then think about it afterwards, you can understand where the hype is coming from. The best way to enter this show is to be positively cautious, don't be overhyped, but don't go in with the stigma that "kids shows suck" or "it's a girls show so I won't like it", because it's really not a girl's show or a kids show. It's a show, going into it with that mentality is the best way. Will I continue to watch it? Eh, maybe. We'll have to see. But I can defiently say it's a well done and excellent show.

Agreed. I've kept watching the show, however, and REALLY love it.

Rainbow Dash is up there, I just like Fluttershy a lot due to her personality. Like I said, I like all the characters. That's the thing I LOVE about the show, all the characters are AWESOME!

Well... I will admit at first I didn't watch it because people were all crazy about it, and I refused to join it and stuff and people were like "Joiiiin ussss!"

And then one day my sister was watching the hub, well before my showet Strawberry Shortcake was on... But I was expecting My Little Pony to come on at some point, when I got out of my shower there it was, showing the episode "Party of one." With Pinkie pie. xD

So I watched it, and of course I would like it... xD

Then I started watching the first episode which I got on iTunes since it was free... I started watching it with my sister Going on youtube and all that. I really liked the show and how awesome it was. I love the animation and all that. xD

Who knew I would get obsessed with it.. lol. I just love every character, there is no character I dislike. And I have no favorite character, they are all awesome. xD

And now I have every episode downloaded from iTunes, I have been watching them occasionally.

I can't wait for season 2 to come out!!! SInce my direcTV is canceled I dunno how I am gonna watch it..

I'm just watching it on Youtube myself.

And I agree, I love all the characters. I see you're a Rarity fan. I really like her...I don't know why many people seem not to. Yeah, she's the "girly" one, but she's no less awesome and well rounded than the other characters.

I am a fan of them all. xD

They all are really great. Pinkie Pie might be lower than the rest but I still like them all. xD

I especially love fluttershy. So cute.
