Featherpaw emerged from the den, her tounge curled backwards in a yawn. "Good morning, Winterpaw," she called sleepily. Then she noticed the cats, already busy with their warrior duties. Bother, she thought. I over slept again. She idly loosened the moss from her fur and followed Scorchpaw.

"Really? But what about Brightheart?"

"Tigerpaw's gonna care for her," Rainpaw replied as he passed by on his way back from waking his mentor.

"Ooh... He's going to make me pay for that later," Featherpaw replied in a joking tone. I just hope he doesn't use his claws this time

"Nah," Rainpaw replied. "He wouldn't dare with good ol' Winterpaw around!" The tom cat broke off into a good natured purr.

Featherpaw flattened her ears slightly and playfully swatted at his tail in response. She then noticed the removed bandages on Sorchpaws feet.

"Umm, did Jayfeather say it was okay for you to remove them already?"

The arrival of Sunspots and Sorreltail saved Scorchpaw from answering Featherpaw's question, for now. "Alright," said Sunspots. "Looks like we're all here. Sorreltail, would you do the honors?"

"With pleasure!" Sorreltail replied. The she-cat lead the cats deep within Thunderclan territory. "Rainpaw, what do you smell?" she mewed, her tone hushed.

"Mouse," he replied.

"Would you care to demonstrate how to catch such a fine mouse?"

"Of course," he replied. Rainpaw proceeded to stalk his prey with slow, calculated movements, shifting his paws noiselessly. Then, at the last second, he swiftly rushed his prey, ending with a pounce and a quick sharp nip to the back of its neck, severing its spinal chord in two.

"Well done," praised Sorreltail.

Scorchpaw counted her lucky stars, she knew Featherpaw was sharp, but she didnt think she'd be that quick. Watching Rainpaw, she took note of his movements, curling her tail around her paws to keep quiet. She let out a short pur, impressed.

Stormfang nodded, "Good. Scorchpaw, did you see his movements? There is another mouse nearby. Match his movements and make sure to kill without making a sound. If the prey makes a single squeak, it'll warn all the prey from here to the camp!" Stormfang really didnt mean to scare teh apprentice, it's just how Duspelt, his mentor, had taught him. His ears flicked at his memory. Dustpelt had died in a deadly brawl with a fox north of the territory... he died bravely and he swore that he'd match his mentors bravery ten fold. Teaching this apprentice would be the start.

Scorchpaw narrowed her eyes in concentration. She slowly slid to her belly, careful for her paws not to make a sound. Her whiskers twitched, scenting the mouse Stormfang had told her. If she caught this, it'd be her first kill for the Clan. This would prove to many cats that the beginning was simply a rough start. This is where her heart lay.

Her tail twitched lightly, rustling some dead leaves.

The mouse's head shot up, sniffing around. Scorchpaw sprang, scooping up the mouse, stunning it and killed it with a swift bite.

"Well done!" Stormfang praised, clearly impressed. Granted the mouse was small, but every bit of prey counted for the clan. He turned to Featherpaw, eyes gleaming. He pointed with his tail in one direction... hearing a vole snuffling around in the leaves. Voles were alittle harder to catch, but if done right, Featherpaw would outhunt her brother today. He was determined to teach his apprentice a lesson.

Featherpaw glanced at the direction where the vole was scuffling. If she took the direct route through the leaves, her poofy tail was bound to give her away for sure! She tested the wind; yes, she could do that and still remain downwind. She carefully lowered herself as low as she dared without her belly fur brushing the ground, and slowly crept foward, inching step by step for what seemed like hours. She skirted the patch of dry leaves in favor of the wet ones, still damp from a recent rain and heavy dew. Hopefully this will disguise my scent, she thought. Her paws then traveled onto a clump of moss right behind the vole. Then, with a quick spring, she pounced, nabbing it by the scruff. For a brief moment, she let it dangle squirming from her mouth.

Bite the spinal chord, mousebrain! Sunspots silently chastized.

A heartbeat later, Featherpaw remembered what she was supposed to be doing and quickly extinguished its life.

Sunspots exhaled a sigh of relief.

Scorchpaw blinked, glad that Featherpaw caught her prey. But the way she did it... perhaps she just needed some practice.

"Well done," Stormfang praised, purring amusedly. "You have your fathers hunting down pat, just be alittle quicker to the kill." He brushed her ears with his tail

Stormfang wasnt known for his affection. But when earned, it made its appearences.

Scorchpaw picked up her mouse and padded over to the group, the sand making her paws sting alittle but she gave no sign of it. Setting it down in front of Sunspots she suddenly angled her ears towards a rabbit hopping through the bushes. Parting her jaws, she turned and ducked low. But the rabbit had already heard her and darted away.

"Bad luck," Sorreltail tried to soothe the apprentice. "You'll catch one when you learn. A rabbit hears you, a mouse feels you. Remember that."

OOC: "Curiosity killed the cat." (excuse the pun) Who is Featherpaw's and Tigerpaw's father?

Featherpaw caught the questioning look in Scorchpaw's eye. Sloppy, she thought. I was lucky that that stupid vole didn't alert the others, let alone that I even caught it at all! If it wasn't for my stupid tail... nevermind; can't make excused for my mistakes.

She padded up to her denmate. "Great catch!" she purred. "Sorry that I didn't say so sooner."

Rainpaw swiftly caught and killed a squirrel with ease. "Ptooey! Stupid fluffy furballs!" he said, spitting the excess fur from his mouth.

Sunspots purred softly in amusement. A rabbit that had wandered too close to the patrol caught her eye; she quickly nudged her apprentice.

Featherpaw softly inched forward, made a flying leap, and landed flat ontop of its back. She made sure she delivered the death blow this time, biting down hard, but she still managed to be kicked in the belly.

Sorreltail groaned.

((Whitewing (father) Rosethorn (mother)))

Stormfang's ears twitched and ducked low, quickly moving foreward into a brush and returned with a thick, plump pigeon and set it down with the groups pile. Glancing around, he scented the forest and glanced around. "We had better get moving," he voiced at last.

Scorchpaw watched Featherpaw, her ears perked as she watched fight for her rabbit. She nodded at Rainpaw, the squirell did look furrier than fatter. But food was food right now... Hearing Stormfang, she perked up and trying to catch what had tipped him off. All seemed quiet to her... hat's when it hit her. It was really quiet.

A shape passed through the bushes, making her whirl around.

Tigerpaw jumped out of the bushes with a plump thrush in his jaws, tail held high in seeing his mentor. "I didnt hear you call," he meowed past his prey. Looking at the other three apprentices, he leaned back. "Hunting training today?"

Scorchpaw's ears slowly flattened seeing Tigerpaw. This was suppose to be her training day with Featherpaw! Her day to prove she's worth something to the clan! With Tigerpaw around, they'd end up quarreling and everyone knew it. Irritation fluffed her pelt and she looked at her mouse. Compared to the thrush he caught, hers was just a measily mouthfull. Anger burned in her belly... only then she remembered Brightheart. Who was watching her?!

"I thought you were watching Brightheart while we were hunting!" She lept to her paws. Bramblestar was going to kill her!

Tigerpaw wrinkled his nose, whiskers twitching ever so slightly. "That's your job, Scorchpaw. No one told me that you were going hunting. And look at that measily mouse! It'll barely feed a kit!"

"I've been in camp for three days you stupid furball!"

"That's enough!" Stormfang suddenly growled, his eyes blazing. "Tigerpaw,you were ordered to stay in camp to look after Brightheart till we returned. You are just as much fault as Featherpaw and Scorchpaw. And here you are, walking around the forest while the entire CLAN is on alert, hunting without a Warrior no less! You're disobeying orders is going to wind you up taking care of the queens if you're not careful!"

Scorchpaw didnt want to listen to Tigerpaws chastizement, regardless of how much better it made her feel to see him in trouble. On her mind right now is that technically she was disobeying orders from her mentor. And that made her just as bad. SHe hadnt thought how Bramblestar would've felt since she disobeyed him too.

Sorreltail returned with a vole and dropped it in the groups pile. "What's going on here? Tigerpaw, what are you doingout of camp?"

Tigerpaws fur ruffled and flattened his ears. This wasnt how things were suppose to go! He was suppose to come back with his juicy prey and be praised! Not taking care of one half blind elder that he should've killed in his passed life. "I--I had to hunt for the Clan. I thought you guys called for me to come and I didnt hear you." And even that lie was a stretch.

Scorchpaw couldnt take it anymore. She got to her paws, taking her mouse and darted back to camp as fast as her paws could carry her. If she could get back before Bramblestar either woke up or got back from patrol, she'd be home free! As soon as she got into camp... there was Bramblestar... tail curled and eyes narrowed. Annoyed and waiting.

"THere you are! I thought you were suppose to be taking care of Brightheart! Where is Featherpaw? She's suppose to be helping you too."

"Be easy, Bramblestar," Brightheart meowed, squinting to see them. "I heard Stormfang call and take the two of them for hunting patrol. I let them go. The two are new to their duties and need practice."

Bramblestars fur flattened in understanding, looking at his apprentice he meowed, "Tell me where you're going next time, okay? After you're done with your duties, I'll take you and Featherpaw out myself for battle training and give my warriors a rest."

Featherpaw whirrled around, staring fiercly at her brother, but said nothing. What should I do? If I stay here, I'll be disobeying Bramblestar. But if I leave, I'll be disobeying both Stormfang and Sunspots...

Sunspots glanced at Sorreltail and Stormfang. "I'd better escort these two back to camp. That will be the simplest sollution. We can talk to Bramblestar about this later."

Stormfang dipped his head in agreement.

Sunspots gave a curt nod. "I shall be back momentarily."

*****
Featherpaw returned just in time to hear Scorchpaw's chastizement.

"I'm here, Bramblestar, and so is Tigerpaw," she said meekly, dropping her vole and rabbit at his paws; both were scrawny enough to be carried in one mouthful by the nape.

Tigerpaw haughtily dropped his plump thrush, glaring at the other two apprintaces defiantly.

Featherpaw's whiskers twitched in irritation.

Bramblestar nodded once, flicking his tail to Sunspots and headed into his den to wait for her.

Scorchpaw sat close to Brightheart, tail twitching around her paws.

"Got in trouble eh Kittypet? You too Featherpaw. For shame," he twitched his tail in a reprimanding manner, dropping his fresh kill in the pile.

"Not. So. Fast Tigerpaw." STormfang returned with the left over prey in his jaws and dropped them into the pile. "You have duties also before you settle in. You can start by pulling thistles out of the elders bedding. After you're done, you can replace it with fresh moss. After that, you can take fresh kill to Talonclaw and Dawnfeather, Jayfeather, Sunpaw, Bramblestar and Lionblaze. After that, MAYBE I will consider taking you out for battle training. Depending how thurough you are. If not, you're confined to camp tomorrow as well."

Scorchpaw gave a small twitch of her tail in satisfaction and turned to look at Brightheart. The elder was grooming her pelt, she gently pawed through one side of her and cracked fleas. Thankfully they were far and few in between.

"You're a natural nurturer, Scorchpaw. Featherpaw, bring in some fresh kill for Sandstorm and you can rest for the day. "Was hunting very good today?"

Scorchpaw nodded while checking Sandstorm for fleas as well, then moving onto Berrynose. Glancing emberrassedly at her denmate she meowed softly "I'm sorry you got in trouble. I just got so excited to be out of camp and hunting for the first time and everything... I felt honestly useful."

"you two are off to a rough start," meowed Berrynose roughly. "You'll get the hang of things soon. All apprentices have it hard at first, than with time, you'll. Find what pace suits you best."

scorchpaw blinked greatfully at the elders words. But truth be told... She wasn't sure of much right now.

"Why are you appologising?" Featherpaw mewed. "I'm just as much at fault as you." She purred slightly, a friendly glint twinkling in her eye. She then dissapeared from the den, reappearing momentarily with her rabbit between her jaws.

"A little scrawny, isn't it?" Sandstorm growled.

Featherpaw flattened her ears slightly in embarassment. "Hunting was fair," she replied to Brightheart."At least, I think so. Scorchpaw and I didn't stay for very long."

"Hmph. Well that's descriptive," Sandstorm mumbled between bites.

Featherpaw's tail became all the more fluffier. "Uh, I caught a vole and a rabbit, and Scorchpaw caught a mouse before returning to camp," she said hurridly.

"Keep your fur on. You're as jumpy as a grasshopper!" Sandstorm replied with a rare twinkle in her eye. "You know who these two remind me of?" she called to Brightheart.

"Who?" replied Brightheart.

"Firestar and Greystripe of course!" Sandstorm purred.

Featherpaw's whiskers twitched. They reminded the elders of the legendary duo?

"You're right!" Brightheart replied. "Those two are inseperable."

"And they have a knack for finding trouble!" Sandstorm teased.

Featherpaw's whiskers grew warm.

scorchpaw blinked blankly at the cats. The names meant little to her since she was born outside the clan. But judging from Featherpaws reaction it waas a compliment of sorts. She purred slightly and continued to sort throught their fur.

After a moment she finished and stepped out of the den. Looking at the apprentice den, she spotted Winterpaw talking with Rainpaw. Remembering their brilliant hunting, a want to prove herself flared in her belly.

winterpaw spotted trhe black She-cat and nodded in greeting to her. Looking past her, though, and found Featherpaw. His whiskers warmed slightly. "Next time we hunt together," he statedm "Its more fun!" But in truth he wanted to show off at Featherpawm

"that's not our decision," Scorchpaw voiced, sitting near them.

"You have to admit though it'd be fun."

Tigerpaw glared ruefully at the group. He had to get Rainpaw and Winterpaw on his side soon... How is the question. Then it hit him. His natural skills... Just like before. But. This time he'll be more carefull on how he did it. ThunderClan Leadership was his place and his alone. Time to become the model warrior again. And that kittypet will be the first to go... As Firestar shouldve been

Featherpaw cast a sidelong glance at Winterpaw. "Maybe, but we won't be able to go hunting anytime soon," she stated curtly. "Anyways, I hope I get to try my paw at some warrior moves. Maybe I'll be better at fighting than hunting," she purred slightly, stealing a glance at Winterpaw.

Rainpaw snickered.

"Doubtful," Tigerpaw muttered.

The four other apprentices stared at him suspiciously.

"Err... sorry, I was thinking of a new technique to try," he lied. "I quickly found a weakness in it though."

Rainpaw continued to stare; in awe, this time. "Really? That's amazing!"

"What is?"

"That you can already think of attacks like that."

Just a little more... he thought. "Oh, I suppose it is. I think of stuff like that all the time; doesn't everybody?"

Rainpaw shook his head. "So, er, do you think you could show Winterpaw and I some of these techniques sometime?"

Tigerpaw grinned. "With pleasure," he repied cooly, casting a condecending glare at his sister and the kittypet.

Scorchpaw blinked, not entirely beleiving Tigerpaw. Personally, she thought that Tigerpaw was bluffing and wanted attention after his emberrassing punishment today. Her tail twitched but ketp quiet. Perhaps if he was busy showing off at Rainpaw and Winterpaw, he'd leave her and Featerpaw alone. So she simply let it go and licked her paw to wash her ears.

Bramblestar stepped out of his den with Sunspots behind him, looking calmer than when he had been. Having heard what happened, he understood now that even apprentices needed a break. "Featherpaw, Scorchpaw." He meowed loudly, flicking his tail to call them.

Scorchpaw looked up, seeing her mentor and got up and swiftly went to him. Though it was clear with the twitch of her tail that she was nervous about being in trouble again.

Bramblestars whiskers twitched slightly. "You've held your word and Brightheart will recover quickly. Therefore I'll hold my word as well. You two will come with me and we'll go do some battle training. Lionblaze, you come too with Sunspots and bring your apprentices."

Lionblaze sprang to his paws, tail high in excitement. "Winterpaw! Let's go!" he yowled, heading for the entrance.

Winterpaw sprang to his paws as well, "Mrrow! Finally!" Giving himself a thurough shake he waved his tail to the other two cats left behind and padded off to join his mentor.

Bramblestar stopped and stared at his apprentice, than it hit him. "How are your paws? Will you be able to train?"

Scorchpaws whiskers grew hot but nodded. With todays hunting exersize and running around to help the elders, she barely felt them at all. When he turned around, she lifted a paw to inspect it and found that they were already toughening up. This, to her, was a very good sign.

Featherpaw glanced at Scorchpaw. "We get to go battle training! And guess what? No Tigerpaw!" she purred.

Rainpaw nugged Winterpaw lightly. "Heheh! Have fun training with Featherpaw!" he said with a wink.

Maybe I'll finally prove myself as an efficient warrior, she thought. Maybe I'll be able to leave my own mark on the clan...

Scorchpaw's tail lifted in excitement, immediately getting to her paws and padded after the group. She followed better than before, noting several landmarks to make sure she'd remember this place again. Her tail twitched as they reached a hollow, beaten around by many paws from several seasons.

Winterpaw shot an annoyed look at Rainpaw and got up to lead the group with his mentor. Immediately after reaching the hollow, he slid down and stood ready. "What are we going to do today Lionblaze?" He meowed excitedly, jumping around and rolling as if fighting an invisable enemy.

Lionblaze purred shortly at his apprentice. Suddenly, he pounced, remembering Tigerstar's old lesson. "An enemy can attack at any time! You must be prepared!" he growled.

"Yes Lionblaze!" Winterpaw suddenly kicked him, throwing him off. "But you also must be prepared for a counter attack."

Lionblaze oofed, blinking, and rolled his apprentice off of him. "ALrigh get off ya lump! It's not just our training session, we have two new apprentices. It's time to show them the ways of the Warrior in Battle."

Winterpaw's eyes glittered, sitting down. THis was almost like him being a mentor. He wondered... what would his Warrior name be if he were a mentor?

Bramblestar purred shortly at their antics. Stepping into the hollow as well, he was flooded with memories of Berrynose-- back then Berrypaw-- and him training here. But soon after his warrior cerimony, trouble started... Pushing the past away, he focused on his apprentice now. "Now," he began in an authoritative voice, "Scorchpaw, attack me."

Scorchpaw blinked at her mentor confused. Attack him? How?

Bramblestars flicked his tail. "Well, what are you doing sitting there you lazy lump of fur?! Have you gone deaf? Attack me!"

Scorchpaw's ears flattened and threw herself at her mentor, clas sheathed, only to hit the tree behind him...

"Too slow. I saw you comming from ten foxlengths away!"

Scorchpaw shook out her fur and leapt again, catching his shoulder but being pinned again.

"Good. You were faster, but not tactful enough. That's a good start." he backed off, shaking out the dust and sand from his fur.

OOC: Sorry about the late response. :(

Featherpaw flexed her paws, waiting for her turn. Normally Sunspots would have taken her apprentice out for training, but she had a prior commitment in guarding Jayfeather and Sunpaw. Her tail twitched with impatience, and eventually she gave her thoughts free range. I wonder what my warrior name will be... she wondered. Dawnfeather named me "Featherkit" in responce to me appearing like a weakling with a poofy tail, while she gaveTigerpaw a decent name! I'll most likely end up with "Feathertail" or "Featherfur". Uhg! How unoriginal! Hmm...Featherstorm on the other hand... now that's not bad! Sounds like an exploding pidgeon! Uh... now I'm hungry. Perfect. Her eyes wandered fondly over to Winterpaw. Ahh... He's so lucky to have a name like "Winterpaw". "Winterblaze", "Winterstorm", "Winterfang"... She felt herself begin to purr with pleasure.

~~~~~~
Sunspots sprinted behind the two medicine cats. To her surprise, she found herself having trouble keeping up with Jayfeather.
Jayfeather purred with amusement. "Having trouble keeping in pace?" he yowled over his shoulder.
"Not at all! This is just a warm up!" Sunspots called back.
The three cats eventually arrived at the abandoned Twolegs nest. Though in major disrepair from years of abandonment, the site of it gave Sunspots an eerie chill up her spine. A hot breeze wafted over her scent glands: Twolegs. Of course there's going to be Twoleg scent! she scolded herself. This place always reeks of the creatures.
"So, what herbs are you after, Jayfeather?" she called, grimacing as her voice echoed off the rotten wood walls and stone rubble.
"Catmint mostly," Jayfeather replied. "Though this place is also a good source for poppy seeds and other plants."
Another breeze gusted through the empty window panes; Shadowclan. Sunspots exchanged a wary glance with Sunpaw, and felt herself automatically unsheath her claws.
