The female's smile only widened in response to his joke, and especially when he complemented the lands. They really were quite nice, weren't they? And they had everything they needed, even a good supply of game coming through. It was like an untouched piece of paradise away from the desolate area under Astral dominion.

She nodded and replied, "It's settled then, this will be our new home. Now we'll just have to make sure it stays that way."

As soon as she'd spoken, she noticed Jet's attitude change. He'd caught the scent before her, but when it did finally break over her nares, her grin sidled away, replaced by a deep frown and furrowed brows. She tilted back her head and angled her maw upward, drawing in the cologne of the stranger. After a moment's consideration, her stance visibly tensed and her bi-colored eyes focused back on her companion.

"I'm not positive, but I think I detect the Astral perfume coming our way," she growled quietly.

Like most other packs, the Astrals would identified their family with a common scent that each carried, mixing slightly with his or her own personal scent. The pack scent was especially amplified if the wolf had undergone the Astraling process, which could only be expected. In their case, the common scent was something similar to a mint-like smell that would be relatively faint typically. The particular whiff Asphodel had caught was even more faint than she would have guessed, but it was definitely one in the same. It was hard to forget that smell.

Asphodel looked around quickly to where the trees grew more dense and the light was cut off. The shadows were thick there, but not as thick as she would have hoped they'd be. With a worried glance back in the direction the stranger's scent had wafted from, her resolve solidified.

"You're not going to like this, but we don't have much time and we need to hide. Just stay quiet and still. Whatever you do, don't move until I say," she whispered urgently.

Next she pushed him gently over toward the shadows, into their deepest area. With a stiff nod, she indicated again that he was to stay right there, and then her body began to disappear. Actually, in the technical sense, she wasn't disappearing - just melding with the shadows themselves. When to any eye she was completely gone, the shadows would also begin to surround Jet, but only partially. She wasn't strong enough at the moment to pull him in completely with her, so the rest of him was covered with a sort of veil. To any onlooker he'd appear to just be a part of the tree's umbrage, unless they got too close and managed to bump into the solid portion of him that was left. Unfortunately, being halfway merged in any element wasn't exactly a comfortable feeling, much less when shadows were involved. Everyone reacted differently to it. As would have to apologize to him for that later.

Zhivel snorted, mostly out of annoyance that a flying insect had buzzed right below his nose. Such small, pestilent creatures. When another entered and spoke, he pushed himself to his paws. Those silvery, clouded eyes opened and focused on Ryder. Though he couldn't see the wolf's physical features, the magic in the older brute allowed him to distinguish his form perfectly, as highlighted by his aura. Every creature had one, and each was easily distinguishable from another, as all were unique. He nodded to him in both greeting and reply, and then to Quilat when the young warrior confirmed those were his intentions.

"I suppose that's true," he murmured.

A moment later, the wolf smiled as an old man might do when there was mischief on his agenda. This wasn't exactly the case, of course. The Alpha was merely thinking about how Ryder had rushed in to defend the other male. He must have been giving the wrong impression lately, that or he'd been shirking in his duties of reigning in his mate. It was she, after all, who was the one to be worried about offending so easily. Sure, Zhiv had his moments, but genuinely he'd let a creature know well before he was going to get angry with them. In fact, he made it painfully obvious when he wasn't happy. This was not one of those times.

His ears perked when Quilat asked a question and he shook his head lightly. "I haven't heard word of any rogues in the area, other than the ones we saw the other day. They bore us no ill will and have not returned, as far as I am aware." His eyes darkened as he remember a conversation he'd had with his mate earlier that day. The Vacille pack had a new litter and she'd wanted to go inspect it. He'd managed to convince her otherwise for now, using the argument that the pups were only a few days old and wouldn't be showing strong signs of their powers for certain just yet. It wasn't an exact truth, and she'd known it, but caved. It wouldn't hold her off for long though.

"Hm? Oh, yes," he replied without really paying attention to Quilat. When the other had gone off, he turned to Ryder. "Spread the word that we'll be visiting the Vacille pack within the next few days. Let everyone to know to be ready to leave at a moment's notice. I don't know when she'll decide she's waited long enough."

"I will let everyone in the pack know leader," the large brute said before bowing to Zhivel excusing himself to meet all of the warrior groups around their homelands. As much as he wanted to leave Astral territory, he could not do without having some sort of excuse to his alpha and mate to use without arousing some form of suspicion and then it hit him. Quilat was a very trustworthy wolf, they had a friendship that started since he was inducted to Astral. He would be perfect to use as an excuse to go scout out the borderlands and beyond for his missing friend.

Ryder ran, quickly spreading news to all of the warrior wolves along their lands while trying to find Quilat among them. He was just about to give up all hope when a break along river showed the dark wolf lying by the river. He decided to join him for a small drink before looking to him ",consider yourself lucky that wasn't the leader's mate otherwise you wouldn't be here right now," he said but it was clear that he wasn't in the mood for talking. "Anyways...," he continued ",the warriors are going to be out with Leader to visit a pack that has newborns I'm supposed to go along with them, but I'm probably leaving to go find my friends and family along the borderlands. Would you feel like taking a little trip with me, right now?"

Hitze was in no way aware of the two wolves he was slowly getting closer and closer to. As far as he knew he was completely alone. True, the smell of wolves lingered on this place, but he had searched and found no one. He had resigned himself to thinking that there had been wolves here recently, but they had moved on elsewhere now. What he couldn't shake though was the feeling that he was being watched..
His nose twitched at bit at the smells invading his nose. There were several scents overlapping each other. Some faint, some very potent. The most noticeable one was the smell of sulfur and brimstone. It was only out of sheer boredom that he followed it. Maybe it would lead him to something. If it weren't for how suddenly the smell had appeared he probably would have never noticed it. But it was suddenly there. Being a naturally inquisitive wolf, he wanted to find some kind of explanation of this.

Moving on, he came across the smell of blood. He lowered his head closer to the earth and poked around for a second. Something had died here. It wasn't possible to tell what, but it gave him an eery sense of foreboding.
Deciding it was better to not stick around, Hitze moved a bit quicker upstream. He had wondered away from the river by now. The smell of the minerals were confusing him. They would grow in intensity as the wind blew in his face, but then it was almost gone. After several minutes of this the smell brought him closer to the trees surrounding the place. A little perplexed, he stopped and looked around.

Closing his eyes, he focused on the faint smell of the brimstone and sulfur and moved his head around till he figured out which direction it was coming from most. Locked on it, he opened his eyes and saw he was looking right at the stretch of forest. Curiosity peaked, he moved closer. Why did he feel like eyes were trained on him? Every step closer made the feeling more and more intense. He was borderline creeped out. Not so much scared, he was not worried at all about being attacked, but it was the feeling that he was being watched and not being able to see who that got to him.
When he reached the trees, something odd happened. Something he couldn't explain or understand. The closer he got to the trees, the stronger the smell got in his nose. But then, suddenly, the smell was gone. He walked around the trees for a bit trying to find the smell again but it was simply gone.

Walking away from the trees, the smell returned to his nose. Unable to understand what was going on, he stepped away from the trees, testing how potent the smell was. Looking around again, his eyes noticed the cave and decided to check it out. Possibly that might be the source. A cave would make more sense than the base of some trees.
At first, he just poked his head in. When he did, the smell got alot stronger. This was deffinatly it. Encouraged, he moved in farther. Moving slowly to the very back of it, looking around. But he could see nothing.

The more weight she put on her thick shoulders the more she was sinking in. By now the dirt and murky mud was reaching her chest as she had to bend her legs and reach outwards. Grunting she growled under her breath, struggling some before feeling her foreleg slide out from under her. "Ngh!" She yelped slowly, feeling her pads slide deeper into the ground, her frame too bulky to go against the sinking mud slide. How could one get footing if they were slipping down a small ravine and the ground wasn't sturdy? No way. Her frame slide down, haunches following shoulders as she struggled to get out, becoming stuck as she landed. Now the mud reached her shoulders and kept her there, like a glued quicksand, tainting her pale coat with rough patches of brown.

The recent waters had made everything extra slippery and this was no exception. Huffing she looked around, muscles flexed as anger started to bubble in her mind. Grinding her fangs she tried to move her thighs and shoulders but to no avail, she was too far down the muddy bank to pick herself out. Norte hated being stuck, it didn't matter where, she just hated the feeling of someone or something holding her back. Rolling her tongue along her frost colored lips she looked around/ The mud was stiff yet moist, so if she added more liquid, it would make her sink further, something anyone, and Norte could do without.

Audits flicking forward, she glanced around, whiskers twitched as she now hopped for someone to see her, somehow. Good for her, she stood out, being on the bottom of a small swampy ravine, a patch of white amidst a wasteland of murky brown. Tail raised over the entrenchment, she did a small series of low calls, looking around and then repeating. Her tongue arched against the roof of her broad muzzle in doing the calls, mentally forced to grow patient.

A dim cry was softly being carried along the wind. Each time it reached his ears they twitched slightly. Someone was calling for assistance...somebody close. He could feel a thick knot twist in the back of his neck, causing a small amount of discomfort as he contemplated this new situation. It wasn't a matter of helping, he just didn't want much attention drawn to himself so soon. Tilting his head to one side, he drifted for several moments in deep thought before stepping down towards the noise.

The swamp was growing more stuffy and damp by the step, and it only seemed to be getting worse as deep pools of mud formed alongside the trail, giving indication of just what dangers were waiting for those foolish enough to fall out of step. It wasn't long that he reached what seemed to be a slight drop; the ground giving way to a ravine that stretched out before his eyes.

Thor used his keen eyes to gaze towards the bottom as another cry pierced his mind. Whoever it was, a deep mist kept them clear out of view from those above. Certainly not the kind of situation he'd want to be in either. Taking his time, the rogue wolf crept along the trail, being cautious not to fall victim to the trail's dangers. It felt like it would go on forever, but after a good five minutes he reached what seemed to be the bottom.

Looking around in a full arc, he could still see very little, thus prompting him to dive further into the center. A large mud hole sat at the bottom of this ravine, and that's where he finally manged to make out the image of another wolf, stuck up to her shoulders in the thickened muck. Keeping his eyes down, he guided his paws so that he remained safely at the edge; finding a suitable spot for communication.

"Well...I'm going to go ahead and assume that you're the one in need of assistance." he spoke out in as steely a voice as he could muster, trying to give clear indication that he was here to help, yet not letting his guard down. He still couldn't make out the finer parts of this wolf's features, but without a doubt their intentions would be known soon.

Matya jerked upright, her eyes flying wide open. For a moment, she wondered where she was, before looking out at the snow. This happened often. She would doze off unexpectedly, and wake up having no clue where she was. It was almost like a brief, mild case of amnesia. Shaking herself out of her daze, the young female stood, her muscles stiff from the position she had been in. Leaning down, she stretched, her spine cracking occasionally, which surprisingly, felt nice. Shaking her thick pelt, she assumed her normal standing position, and looked back out at the snow.

It had stopped falling, and now lay over the ground like a sparkling, white blanket. A very cold, sparkling, white blanket. Deciding she had nothing better to do, she padded out, her paws skipping lightly over the cool surface. Her toes sank only a little as she walked, leaving faint prints behind her. That was good, the snow was solid, meaning there wasn't a risk of sinking to far, and being stuck...or freezing.

A dim series of calls echoed through the still air, dragging Matya out of her thoughts. She pricked her ears in interest, the series of low notes sounded like a call for help. More out of curiousity than anything, she followed it slowly, weaving her way through trees and slick patched of uncovered mud. She had entered the swamp now, but the young wolfess felt right at home in them, despite the dislike some held. It was true, the swamp-lands could very well be treacherous...if you didn't know your way around, that is.

One more low call drifted through the air, followed by a deep, hard voice. Curiousity growing, she dropped into a crouch, using trees and shrub for cover. Peering through a small gap, she made out a white female stuck in a mud-hole, and a larger male, who sat by the edge. She could only make out a few words, such as "need" and "assistance", but they were enough to indicate that the male was there to help. Satsified that she was not needed, she remained in her crouching position, camoflauged by her small shrubs and thicker trunks. Matya was curious as to how this would turn out.

Quilat lifted up his head when he heard someone talking to him. It was Ryder, his fellow friend and packmate. Quilat smiled at him, listening to his speech.

"Oh, you think so? Lemme think about this..." Quilat said, looking around the forest. "Umm, I would gladly go with you, but...I think I need to be there with Alphas. And...What could be the excuse to go there? You think they would trust us? I know, you're Beta, and I'm Warrior, but...Still, you think it's a good idea?" Quilat said with really calm, and serious voice. After few minutes of silence, he asked: "Also...What are the family and friends you want to find? Your parents? Siblings?" asked Quilat, looking at the large wolf in front of him.

Quilat slowly moved his large body up, and looked around. Calm wind was blowing through their fur's . Quilat deeply breathed in and out, then looked back at Ryder. "Well, I guess I can help you then. We just need to get the permission from Alpha's...Let's go." he said, and began to walk towards the cave. "Oh, I guess you're supposed to tell the other wolves around about it, right? If yes, then let's go to inform them first..." Quilat said, smiling.

When Jet was pushed into the shadow, he let on an uncomfortable grunt before shutting his mouth so the stranger couldn't find them by ear. He held his breath, trying to keep as quiet as possible. When the intruder seemed to leave, he stepped out of Asphodel's shadowy grasp. He puffed out a breath, glad the threat had passed. But just when he realized they intruder hadn't left, it was too late.

A few help calls came through the air, but Jet was too caught up in this dangerous moment to pay any heed to them. He backed away slowly, keeping his eyes on the cave in which the wolf was in. He kept backing up, until he stepped on a twig. Dangit! He flipped his head over to where he had just been a few seconds ago. He gave Asphodel an expression, even though she was still hidden, that basically told her the words. I'm sorry... That was stupid of me. Ugh, why do I have to be such a fool? His expression changed. Stay there. If he sees me, at least I'll be the only one at risk. You'll be safe. We need you. If anything happens to me, at least you'll be safe.

And with that, he began to run away. Surely the wolf would have heard him by now. Jet was preparing for the worst. He was preparing for the stranger wolf to be from their rival pack. He was expecting to be taken away, held prisoner, or killed. None of that mattered, though. Whatever happened, at least Asphodel would be safe so there would still be a chance for all to become right once more.

Asphodel watched as the stranger went into the cave, just barely visible to where she was hidden inside the shadows. Her muscles relaxed a little at this and she grinned. Now he was in her territory, for all that filled the cave was shadow.

But before she could do anything about it, Jet had stepped from the protective embrace she'd been able to give him and was out in the open. He must not have seen the Astral wolf go into the cave. Just as calls for aid broke the silence, so did Jet's foot on a twig. The crack was almost deafening to her ears, because it was the only close sound. She cringed inwardly and then watched him give her a silent look of apology, followed by something akin to determination on his facial features. The female watched as he broke into a run away from the area, and she wanted to cry out so that he would stop. Yelling would give her position away, and so instead she watched him go only for a moment before turning her gaze on the cave.

The darkness would begin to thicken around the stranger, and though she wasn't aiming to hurt him, she hoped that the tendrils she was now making appear from the shadows would grab him and bind him, keeping him from moving anything but his head beyond the earthen opening. Maybe, just maybe, if the tendrils of shadow could grab him, she could turn the tide on this situation and make him the prisoner instead.

Zhivel has nothing interesting to add to the story at the moment, and so we'll say that he's moved to the Alpha's den for a little nap.

Hitze found nothing in the cave that could have been giving off the secent he was smelling. It was, apparently, all around him. He was ready to give it up. It wasn't important. Mild curiosity had gotten the best of him. Sitting down, he wondered to himself what could be done about the Astral pack. Had the scent of the Astral worn off by now? Was he in any danger of attack? Mentally he staged an attack where a large muscular wolf with piercing red eyes pounced on him. Hearing a twig snap behind him, he came out of his reverie and thought maybe he really was about to be attacked. Turning around, he searched for some sign of movement. But he saw nothing. The sound had obviously come from outside the cave. He stood up, intending to investigate. But before he could move any, something odd happened.
It was like the shadows all around him were reaching out to grab him. He would have dodged had he been capable of moving, but he wasn't. He could not feel anything binding him but he was rooted. No way of escaping. No way of fighting. He growled at the unseen assailant. Bearing his fangs and laying his ears back. Not that it was going to help him any, but he was trying to look fierce or scary. He though about shifting forms but decided the situation wassn't immediate enough for him to do it just yet. He was sure this wasn't an Astral wolf doing this. He couldn't smell them. All he could smell was... Sulfur.

Ryder sighed, and turned the other way from Quilat. For someone of his age, he acted very naive and that was the last thing he needed in a partner. "Look Quilat, at some point in your life you can't look for permission, and you know how the leaders are when a pack member wants to looking for their family, now is the only opportunity that there will be since both leaders will be so distracted in their work with the Versailles pack..." he said trying to hold back the tension in his voice. "If you want to know if your parents are alive...then you'll leave right now. If not it's your loss." The wind started to shift and change direction carrying the familiar scent of brimstone to the air and Ryder knew that her trail would wind up cold if he could not follow it now.

Slowly, harks were folded back as she ceased her calls and relied on waiting now. It didn't take too long for an answer to return to her ears as she rose her head to the voice of a male. "Well...I'm going to go ahead and assume that you're the one in need of assistance." Craning her neck to the side she looked over the edge to notice the white and black brute before chuckling under her breath some. "I reckon that would be me" She said with a soft tongue before shifting in the mud some, the cold starting to seep up her bones but she ignored it and simply began to wait as her eyes moved after the male, the silence between them loosened.

From the stuck angle she was standing, she couldn't see past her shoulder, but in such a dead place, scents were what flourished and so did the sounds. Aside from the little putter of the small rocks that crumbled under his paws and then rolled down the ravine and into the mud with a plunk. She looked ahead and frowned, trying to heave her frame upwards some, her paw pads flexing and trying to push herself up before freeing one paw. All the energy she had reserved on the wait worked in releasing one leg but still, 1/4th was nothing to her eyes. "Up ahead, I think there are some downed branches" Norte give a firm joust of her head in the direction she intended the male to go towards.

A very gentle breeze seeped over the swampland, carrying scents to them as she rose her nose, crinkling it some before a short huff came form her voice. She had triggered the sensory of another wolf, not the male, very close, that of a female. Norte knew she must of heard her noises but decided to be less bold and keep herself away from their eyes. Muttering something below her breath the large female focused on the help she would be receiving from the male shortly, she would hope. Watching him quietly she noted his peculiar coat coloring, an imbalance of black under white. Her own marked eye was turned away from him since she was facing ahead and he had spotted her from her left side. Quickly remembering the hidden female, she gave a sharp grunt, before facing in her distinct direction. "You can come out from hiding.." H er tone was level, and stoic.

Thor watched with a slight amusement as she attempted to free herself from the confines of the thick muk, though he didn't release any laughs as to not insult her. Taking her advice, he turned his nose away and towards a downed pine that was not 10 meters away from their position. He, like herself, had also noticed that another was among them, though hidden away in the endless shrubs that surrounded the mud hole. Giving a firm nod, he lifted himself upwards, taking note that she was watching him the entire time. As he strode down the edge of the thick mud, he gazed into a certain area of the brush, his sharp eyes twinkling slightly as he picked up the scent once more, but decided to ignore it for now.

Using his strong jaws, he pulled a large branch from the downed tree; returning to the female's location quickly. Dropping the large branch as his paws, he rested himself on his forepaws and looked down at her with a slight smile. "Well now sweetie....what do you say you ask really really nicely so that I can pull you out of that mess." he asked her in a playful manner, knowing that she wasn't in any immediate danger, and perhaps he could learn a little more about her before pulling her free.

It wasn't quite like him to play with food...in a manner of speaking...but he did have to learn more about this mysterious wolf before putting his own life possibly at risk. Looking down into her eyes, he could tell that she wasn't one to play around in such a situation, but what did she have to loose....after all...she was at his mercy, In a manner of speaking. Smiling down at her once more, he played with the large branch while awaiting the answer to his question, tempting her to a degree.

Alright, well I'll take this opportunity to interrupt really fast then. Most of you have gotten back to me on the poll thing I asked about, and the big answer I saw was, "Yes, we like having a posting order, but we don't like the current one." Which is completely understandable. So, I'm going to attempt to randomize it with dice, XD. Here's what I got:

Windancer (which is convenient, since she asked to be skipped, xD)
Kalgorn
Hunter
Goddess
Janus
Talon
Faye
Me

Please PM me what you guys think about it. If you like it, then we'll go ahead and skip Windancer and start posting. If you're still waiting on someone from the last round (Pretty much just looks like Janus, unless Hunter and Kalgorn want their characters to interact yet), you may of course ask to be skipped, that way you're not forced to post and blather on about random stuff, xD.
