Quote: Because I don't know ONE person who dislikes Spirited Away, Pokemon or Naruto. Well, Spirited Away is a work of art, yes. I outgrew Pokemon. I'm not a fan of Naruto much anymore because the show and the fandom are both getting pretty obnoxious....>_> Quote: I watched one episode of Wolf's rain and didn't like it. I watched some pokemon and didn't like it. I'm sorry but watching two titles and saying "I don't like any anime." is hardly any better than watching one title and saying that. Quote: I'm sorry, but I find it hard to believe you without sources to your information as of why people hate anime. *shrugs* Those are the reasons people give me when I ask them in person. Sorry, I didn't record their voices saying it. XD Quote: What more are you asking for? We have given you are opinions, and all you do is pity them when we do share our reasons. No one is getting anywhere with you, nor is this topic. I'm asking that if people don't like unrealism, similarities, or stereotypical styles, why do they still like American animation if it has the exact same stuff, if not even more so? That just doesn't make sense to me? Quote: Sure, he has a big head, but the story is more realistic. Unlike anime, characters can suddenly form some sort of magical ball from their hands. You call that realistic? Most of the story lines I've scene like, avatar, pokemon, etc, have been very unrealistic. .........so....then you're just assuming that there's no such thing as an anime with a normal plot with normal humans doing normal things in everyday life? There is, you know. It's called "slice of life" genre. There are plenty of shows just about kids going to school and interacting with each other. There are shows about sports teams. There are shows about love triangles. There are even shows about baking bread. These all might sound boring to the average viewer but trust me, they find ways to make them really interesting. You'd be amazed to find out just how much you can learn about cooking by watching a cooking-genre anime. It's pretty neat. lol .........erm btw, Avatar The Last Airbender's not anime. It's from America.

Wow, some of the comments in this thread are a tad immature.
Honestly, anime never really grew on me. I remember watching and liking Monster Rancher and Digimon when I was a teenager, but when I watched a couple of episodes of Monster Rancher not too long ago, it left me going 'what the heck did I see in this?' I did try to watch Wolf's Rain and Zoids, and not really getting into them. As for Pokemon.. Other than Lucario, I find the entire show annoying.

Okay, besides you guys being pretty immature about it, you're saying this:
'We don't want you to like it, we just want you to not hate it.'
I agree with UK, some people just DON'T like it, not their cup of tea, just like genres of music and books. They don't hate for 'style' or anything, they just don't like watching it.
Me? I don't like anime. I'm not saying I HATE it. But I don't like it either. The stories, while original, get really complicated in a lot of them, unlike typical animation where the story's pretty simple. I also am not a fan of TYPICAL elements of anime animation: large, unrealistic eyes, the whole non-synced lips, outrageous hair colors and styles, how they seem to be superhuman with their ninja moves.
Never was a fan of it, besides a bit of Pokemon. Wolf's Rain's wolves were well done, though. Biut that will never change that I'm not a fan.

Joining in the conversation, I agree that to think 'anime is all the same' is pretty weak. Anime first had it's roots in Speed Racer, Giganto and Kimba. And those styles were very different from each other. Later, in the 80s, we had Superbook, Flying House, Gundam, Dragon Ball, etc. While some of those art styles of anime were influenced by the past ones, they were still pretty different from each other. Again: Here's where Anime started changing in the 90s, with Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Samurai Pizza Cats and Pokemon. The rest of it is just history. Anyway, I remember when Pokemon first came out and generally was big into it. It started out strong w/ the first series[w/ Brock] and the 2nd series[w/ the sketch artist Tracey], but then declined at Jhoto League and beyond, yet I kinda still watched it after that. And I'm definitely down for some Superbook and Flying House when I'm in the mood [I actually uploaded some Professor Bumble sketches on my DA profile]. In fact, both characters from both shows impacted their Trouble Shooter versions in the Trouble Shooter story I've been working on. And currently, right now I'm reading the Bleach series, volume six of the manga. And I definitely think it's the best anime I've read so far.

Plus, they are still producing new episodes of the first show, and the style hasn't changed. JerRocks2Day: Thank you! That's exactly what I tried to say. ...And yes, the older Pokemon episodes are much better than the new, shined up ones with that new blue girl replacing Misty

I'm sorry but to be honest all of those pictures look alike to me.Metal Head Pup wrote: Okay, besides you guys being pretty immature about it, you're saying this:

If people don't like to watch it that's fine, but they shouldn't claim to hate it without really knowing what they're talking about, meaning watching a lot more than two episodes of two different series (some animes take a while to get interesting). I've had my art flamed by people who "hate" anime just because they believed my style was anime, in reality I barely knew what anime was back then. Some people just take their "hatred" for it way to far and completely disreguard the feelings of the people who enjoy it or work hard drawing it (which is NOT easy -.-). Those are the people I get annoyed by. As for the style comment, pretty much all the bad things I see or hear about anime is that people say they hate the style (big eyes, weird hair, ect.) and they assume all anime is like that. I really like most anime that I've seen, but I've disliked plenty of others. Anime comes in all different forms, if you don't care for it then don't watch it and DON'T flame it.
Those are my thoughts after reading this ^^

This thread makes me sad because of the childish mudslinging between fans and haters. Which is a great segway into another reason why anime has some enemies.
The fans.
There are some anime fandoms I'd like to nuke out of existence they are that irritating and blindly loyal to their series of choice. And when you say you don't like anime then holy mother of God run for the nearest bomb shelter because some fans will EXPLODE.
The behavior of fans is a major turn-off for many because they look at one fan foaming at the mouth and go "if that's what the anime fanbase is like then screw this man, I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole." I've been scared of my own fandoms because of the way they act.
I will say I am a fan. If someone doesn't like it, whatevs, when I wake up tomorrow, it won't make a difference that some sap on the internet doesn't like anime. It's their cup of tea, I have mine. I don't get why people go on the attack and flip out when someone doesn't like anime and are just so hellbent on defending their fandom to the death when it doesn't need defending in the first place because in the end, what difference does it make? It just makes everyone angry and you look like a fool.
And this thread is a perfect example of this "quick to fly off the handle and defend the integrity of Japanese cartoons" mentality.
And let's not go over weeaboos. I might have to break something in raeg.

Actually something like that happend to me in real life, once people called me racist for hating/disliking (What ever you want to say I ___ anime -shrug-) anime, and today someone pestered me ALL about anime when I told them, "I don't watch Anime, I watch the American stuff." Even though I told him many times.

Oddly enough, I've watched a few of those shows you mentioned. Anime, for me is kinda dull sometimes. I mean there are a few shows I liked. But most of the plots are very similar in a way. the artists have talent, no doubt, but some things just creep me out a little. I mean, they get kinda nasty. I remember watching this one anime movie, it was in Japanese and I didn't get it, I thought it was weird. But one other question, what's the difference between anime and manga?
I had to edit this otherwise it would have bugged the crap out of me. I'm sorry for my horrible useage of grammar and way too many commas D: Besides that, my views on anime have changed since the time of writing this.
