Haley glanced at the blonde boy for a second before turning her face away from him and his group, her face blushing a bright red. She slowly picked herself up and brushed the dirt from her jeans and hands. She bit her lip, praying that the guy would just continue on his way and leave her alone.

Rafael was on his way back when he heard someone laughing at someone. Josh! he thought angrily. "Josh!" he scolded as he strongly approached the boy and his posse. Rafael got close to his face and warned, "You leave her alone, Josh, or I'll-" "Or you'll what?" interrupted the blonde boy, frustratedly. Rafael was about to say things, but he realized he wasn't stronger, nor more powerful then Josh. An infuriated Josh grabbed the front of Rafael's shirt and pushed him hard on the ground, then motioned for his gang to leave, and he lead them away as Rafael stood up and brushed himself off.

Haley gasped as brunette boy suddenly went up to Josh. She covered her mouth with her hand as Josh picked the other boy up by the front of his shirt and threw him to the ground. Haley could only stare for a few seconds before she finally realized that she was standing there with her eyes as wide as saucers and not doing a thing. Quickly, Haley hurried over to help the boy up, but he had already picked himself up. She blushed in embarrassment for not doing anything earlier. "Um, thanks," she said quiety, looking mostly at her feet.

Rafael soon realized that the girl Josh was laughing at was approaching him, and he pointed his blue eyes in her direction. "Oh... It was nothin'," he assured, "Josh is such a jerk. Never liked the guy anyways." Rafael stepped on his own toes out of nervousness, and tugged at the bottom of his blue and white plaid shirt, which was covered his grass and dust stains. He then, awkwardly, held out his hand. His rough, tanned, overworked hands seemed to clash against her flawless complexion. "Rafael. Stableboy." he said, smiling. This must be the girl Ms. Sandy told me about! he thought to himself.

"I can understand that," Amy said with a smirk, thinking of her mother. "I think we both need a night out at the barn. What do you think?" The barn Amy was referring to is the abadoned barn on the outskirts of town that the teens set up for parties. If someone needs a night out, they just tell people to come to the barn that night. People bring music, snacks, furniture, and anything else they think they'll need. "Wanna spread the word?"
"Haley," Haley said brightly, taking Rafael's hands. They were rough with work, and Haley blushed at her smooth skin. She wondered if it was obvious that she hardly did any hard labor in her whole life. She bit at her lower lip, a nervous habit that she had been trying to rid herself of for the past couple of months. "So, you're not hurt or anything are you?" she asked worridly.

Shay's eyes lit up at the idea. "Sounds perfect!" she said, agreeing. "Create any masterpieces lately?" she asked. Having known Amy for a while, she knew how she loved to draw, and how talented she was at it.

Rafael shook his head. "Nah," he replied, taking his hand back. "When you're kicked and bitten by horses your whole life, it don't seem like much." His grammar wasn't the best, but he would usually skip school to be with his horse, so he didn't get the best grades. However, his riding skills had increased. "Do you ride, Haley? Horses, I mean?"

"I wish," Haley said, a tone of longing on her voice. "I took a few lesson when I was younger, like, seven or eight. But my mom decided one day that I was too good for horse-riding or something like that." She rolled her eyes at her mother's lame excuses that Haley had grown up with.
Amy shrugged. "No more than usual. I've been sketching a lot, but I haven't been painting any of them. I don't spend enough time at the house to get out the oils anymore."

Rafael folded his arms and leaned back on his heel. "What are you tryin' to say?" he said, trying to sound offended. "...That us stableboys aren't good?" He stayed looking grim for a moment, head down, then he looked up and smiled. Before she could reply, he laughed, "I'm only messin' with you, y'know."

Haley's heart pounded nervously when she realized how her words could have offended him. She was about to tell him that her mother thought riding was below her, not Haley, but Haley was saved from explaing herself. She sighed in relief, showing she she had not that Rafeal was joking. She frowned at him, but there was still a trace of a smile at the corners of her mouth. "That wasn't what I was trying to say at all," she said. "I wish I had been able to keep riding. From what I remember, I loved it."

The boy smiled and lifted a single eyebrow. "We've got a few horses in the barn over there." said Rafael, nodding in the direction of the stable. "After you unpack, I could show you around. I-If you want, that is." He unfolded his arms and shoved them in his pockets, kicking pebbles around nervously as he watched his feet, which were dressed in mud-stained, crudely-stitched riding boots.

"I'd really like that," Haley said excitingly, but still quietly because of her natural shyness around new people. She bit her lip, again reminded herself to break that habit, and picked up on of her bags, now covered in dust. Even through the mess, the expensive purple could still be seen. Haley glanced down at her sandaled feet and spotted the dirt now covering them. She blushed, not because of the dirt, but because of her perfectly manicured toe nails and high-heeled white sandals. Comparing herself with Rafael, Haley looked like some stuck-up city slicker.
