Tally stared at Wanila nervously, not letting it show though. Wanila would cuf her over the ear hard, and then do who knew what. Probably something worse thanshe had done to the kits. Actually, what she had done to the kits wasn't to bad, considering how Wanila was after a night of no sleep. Tally had had that experiance before.

"When are we going?" Ayela piped up.

Wanila turned to face Ayela, a cold hostility glazing her eyes. She didn't like young snow leopards, and she had a deep secret.

"Now." She growled, turning away to lead the way out of the tribe's campsite.

Ayela jumped up and followed her, limping as her claws started to ache again.

Tally followed Ayela, noticing her friend was limping. She wanted to say something comforting to her, but Wanila's obvious hostility made her stop. Instead she padded along silently, walking up to pad along beside Ayela.

Ayela struggled to catch up to Wanila, the hard ground under her feet pushing against her claws and making them send a spike of pine up her leg. Then they reached the snow and the cold numbed her claws and she could walk easily. She nudged Tally playfully and dashed forward to race Tally toward the border.

Wanila yowled as Ayela dashed past her, "There's a gorge! Slow down!"

Ayela already stopped at the edge, knowing from past experience that the gorge was there and it was easy to fall over. She crouched down and batted one paw at a long limb that lead a bridge across the gorge. They could use the limb as a bridge to cross into the Tribe of Light's territory.

Tally raced after Ayela, knowing fully well of the gorge Wanila warned about. She skidded to a stop, a good few feet away from the edge. She hated heights, and Ayela stood at tyhe edge, batting at a log that served as a bridge, connecting the two usually distant and unconnected tribes. She mustered her courage and walked over Ayela, still slightly behind her however.

"I'm glad you made it out of tehre," she said quietly. Wanila was still behind them and wouldn't hear it.

Ayela's mind spun as she remembered dangling over the edge of the gorge. It was so terrifying she would never forget it, even when she grew old.

"Thank you for saving me. Without your help, I would have fallen into the river." She thanked her friend once again.

Wanila padded up behind him as Ayela finished and shot them a wary look before turning to look at the bridge. She stepped one paw on the log to make sure it was sturdy before they began to venture across.

"You must remain quiet on the other side. No speaking unless I tell you to." She leapt up onto the log and trudged across to the other side.

Tally stepped back instead of forward, unable to force herself onto the log, whcih seemed small and frail, like it could snap at any second. Atleast t looked ;ike that in her wide and terrified violet eyes. Snow was falling lighter now, but was icing over, making the grip on the roudh bark slippery. She stepped another step back, vertigo claiming her again.

Ayela noticed Tally's hesitation and smelled her fear. She nudged her friend in the side with her nose and looked sympathetically at her.

"I'll go first if you like." She suggested.

Tally nodded, her friends comforting and sympathetic look and nudge barely registering in her panicked mind. She stepped back again, closing her eyes partway, wishing that she wouldn't have to go on the slim log, that seemed to already be cracking. She could already envision herself falling, and hitting the ground, breaking every bone in her dappled body, insantly killing her. She shuddered at the thought.

Ayela looked at Tally once more then leapt up onto the log. To her surprise, it rolled a little to the left, making her dig her claws into the bark. She pulled herself across, her fur standing on end as she looked down at the bottom of the gorge, the memory of her earlier struggle clinging to her mind. She jumped off at the other end to stand beside Wanila, relaxing at being on solid ground but still alert of enemies.

Wanila snarled at Tally as Ayela jumped down beside her.

"Come on, we're wasting time!"

Tally finally placed a hesitant paw on the log, closing her eyes breifly, her claws extended. She placed her next paw on it, breathing a silent prayer not to fall to any deity that might listen. She was soon on the log completely, her head spinning with fear and vertigo. She stepped forward carefully, the log shiftingg under her paws. Her claws dug into the rough bark, and suddenly, she was hanging upside down! THe log had roolled over, leaving her hanging, and her grip was slipping.

Ayela's heart flipped over as one with the log as it rolled over with Tally. She could see her claw hold was loosening and would surely fall to her death if someone didn't help her. She jumped up to land on the log but something rammed into her side.

Wanila pinned Ayela down an snarled, "Do not jump up there!"

Ayela gasped in shock. How could she not save her friend?

"Let her save herself. She doesn't need you jumping to help her every time she gets her paw stuck in a hole!"

"But she doesn't have her paw stuck in a hole! Shes dangling over the gorge! We have to help her!" Ayela protested.

"If you jump up there, I'll throw you over myself!"

Ayela crouched down, clearly afraid of Wanila now. How could she let Tally hang from the log without even moving to help her?

Tally's back paws scrabbled aginst the underside of the log, her moves wild and panicked. She was sure she would fall, was the log breaking. Gravity tugged at her body, urging her to let go and fall to her death. Her slipping claws dug into the bark harder, her back paws finding purchase in a new surge of adrenaline. She managed to somehow roll over, using her claws that were now wedged into the wood to do so. She padded the rest of the way, shaking with fear and releif.

Ayela did not rise from her crouch until Tally made it safely to the other side. She stood up cautiously and pranced over to her friend when she noticed Wanila wasn't watching her anymore.

"Whoa! I thought you were fish food for sure!" She exclaimed, nuzzling her friend.

Wanila growled a little and stared into the forest. She felt a pair of eyes resting on her, but not with hostility. More like relief and she grunted. With a slight flick of her tail and a wink, she turned to call Ayela and Tally over to her.

"Come on!"

"Tell me about it!" Tally said, her eyes still wide. She followed after Wanila. "Why did she say not to help me?" Tally asked quietly, making sure it was unhearable by Wanila. She had heard that much through the panic.
