Her character development was rather sloppy, in my opinion. For a King's daughter, she could have been so much stronger, yet they saved her should've-been-in-the-beginning-strength till almost the end of the movie. Kinda foolish really.

What does being a king's daughter have to do with inner strength? It's just a title. Not to forget that the said king wasn't strong even himself. He was very uncertain and/or was just so badly wanting to walk the path appointed to him instead of finding his own way. The most strong characteristic about him appeared to be his hatred and prejudice of the Outlanders, but Kiara was not the one to hold grudges. As in, I don't see how THIS king's daughter didn't need to be strong to begin with just because she was a king's daughter.

I actually like this idea. It would haven been ORIGINAL for one to make her a strong female character. And I really didn't like how they changed Simba's character to begin with. He wanted to walk his own path to begin with in the first movie, so why didn't he continue to do that in his own way in the sequel?

Thank you for agreeing with me, Roi. I guess the reason why I 'dislike' Kiara is because, for being the main character in the film she should have been a little more stronger than what she was. Frankly, to see the main character as a 'weakling' was disappointing to me. But, I guess that's why I like writing fanfiction. I can make my characters, especially the main ones, strong to my liking, to be what they need to be, what I want them to be. Kiara reminds me - now - too much of Aleu in Balto 2: Wolf Quest. She's weak in the beginning, but strong in the end? Come on!

Because of all the events in his life developing his character like life does to all of us in real life too? Especially the immense hardships. My point; a lots of deeply emotion-and-perspective effecting stuff happened to him in his childhood and life over all. Most importantly the sudden death of his father for which he blamed himself and had to choose an exile for. This alone would unavoidably change a child's point of view of "free to do it all my way", let alone when that situation goes on for all his growing up years and longer. And then there's the becoming a father by having Kiara. He had to be a good example to Kiara. And would've wanted to be that anyway, as he wanted to be just like his dad. So, of course they changed Simba's attitude.

I do and I don't, there's things that make me hate her and there's things that make me think she isn't all that bad, but I think its mostly I don't like. But, I wouldn't say I hated her.

I'll be honest, she is adorable, but there are moments throughout the movie where I like her and where I don't.

why , why do people hate on her ? I've seen the movie a million times , and she's way better then kopa , i mean what , he was in like 6 books , and he whined a lot , where as kiara gets a movie and is less whiny. to me i love kiara , and she's not annoying , and is NOT a Mary sue , as people call her.

Honestly? I can't stand her. She's worse than Aleu is in Balto 2: Wolf Quest.
She's annoying, whiny, and while, yes, she wants her independence, she also wants her father to stop treating her like a cub, even when she's grown up and going out for her first hunt, and might I mention ALONE! She was supposed to go with the hunting party, Disney! Sure she sees the good in everyone, big deal.
What is really her problem? She has no problems, and that's what really frustrates me about her.
Simba lost his father as a cub, watched him die, and was framed for his death by his own uncle and grappled with whether or not to go back and claim his rightful place as the anointed prince and future king of the Pridelands.
What problems does Kiara have?
I'll answer that. Other than wanting her freedom, which is something everyone wants at one time or another, absolutely nothing. All she wants to do is to love the lion who was raised to kill her father and possibly her and she's too naive to ask her father why he dislikes Kovu so much.
I think the only reason I tolerated Kiara while watching Simba's Pride when I was a kid was because I never really got into her character, her personality. I was too busy and excited that Disney had made a great sequel.
Well, after watching Simba's Pride not too long ago for the first time in years, I realize I was wrong. If anything, Melody from The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, and Scamp from Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure, those two make Kiara look like, well, I'm not gonna say it. But, anyway, at least Melody and Scamp had actual problems and managed to, shall I say, triumph.
Kiara doesn't. All she does is reunite two separate prides by using three words her father told her when she was a cub With. No. Explanation. as to why the prides were separated in the first place.
Kiara's character and personality were so badly concieved it bugs the heck out of me.
Makes me glad I do fanfiction, but it makes me wanna revise Simba's Pride completely. I know Kopa is not part of the movie, but, if I had had my way with a sequel for The Lion King I'd have had Kopa be Simba and Nala's child despite the fact that 'having a son would repeat the cycle of the first movie' some would say. No, it wouldn't. The child's a son, yes, but the plotline and story would have been a thousand times better.
I prefer the semi-canon Kopa than the 'canon' Kiara any day.

fine i respect that . but if you also notice , her father is over protective of her . she had NO freedom. where as , say , if my father was like that , I'd be the same way . as for the ' should it really be kopa instead of kiara ' part , i prefer it to be kiara. i don't want it to be kopa because we already saw a story of a son. it would be boring to repeat the same thing all over again , where as , with a daughter , it was a way more exciting story. and that's my opion on the matter . but , anyways , you still had a good point.
