Haha seriously doubt that. All these little kids I see seem to like Hannah Montana and all this crud thats being put up on the Disney Channel and I BET jonas brothers fans watch the show JUST because they are in it. I like a few of their songs but their show ISN'T even slightly funny, its like they try to hard....I mean i'd give hannah montana credit even that they do have "some" funny moments.

The only shows I watch on Disney Channel and actually enjoy are Phineas and Ferb because its random and different from the normal disney drama shows and Wizards of Waverly Place because I enjoy Alex's sarcasticness and the fact they make fun of Harry Potter because I loathe most of anything that has to do with Harry Potter except the Chamber of Secrets movie. Its the only one on the abc family marathons that I can actually watch the whole way thru.

But,back to the topic. I really just don't think it should be called Disney Channel honestly because this is definitley NOT Walt Disney's vision, and as much of a Disney Fanatic I am over the parks and good classic movies and cartoons I would definitley know that he would most likely not put this crud under his last name. But whatever. Life goes on...

A key factor the lowering of quality is because they are investing more into ESPN UK, t provide us with Premier League games.

Matter of Opinion really, I like some of the older shows they had, like that 101 Dalmatain Series, and Tales Spin, Sweet Life of Zach and Cody. And all that.
It didn't suck to me then, but now it does.

I don't really like disney channel shows because I think they become less and less mature (or maybe I'm just older and don't like them anymore) so I could say that it's not a real problem but still, these show give role models to kids and young teenagers and they shouldn't stereotype everyone.
Well, stereotypes will always been used in literature, tv shows or movies, that's normal because it's easier to create stereotype rather than complex characters because they don't have enough time to go deeper into their mind and motives, but still I think Disney succeeded sometimes in avoiding some stereotypes without creating complex characters.

The problem with minorities is that it's far more complex than stereotyping a character. I mean, you can create a nerd, it's no big deal (I'm a nerd and happy with that situation, you can also watch the big bang theory, they are "real nerds" but I don't think they stereotype a minority and the aim is obviously to make people laugh and not giving them role models or ideas about society), but stereotyping a minority (ethnical, etc) is pretty bad. It's mean that every single character will be presented as being "that kind of people" and it will give a false view of our world to kids.

Anyway, for the "London Tipton" thing, I guess she's just there to parody Paris Hilton, so instead of making her blond and dumb, they changed the stereotype. I see no harm since it's just a parody of someone who exist.

But everyone is right about one thing : except for That's so raven, you cannot say we see a lot of minorities as main characters. Most of the time it's just like they are here to say "Hey ! Look ! We're not racists ! We engaged a black/asian/native american/etc in our show !"

I agree with all of you!
Urgh, I just watched the SLOD episode 'The Mummy and the Swami'. So much cussing of Indians in that one T_T
And yeah, it appears in a lot of other episodes as well.
I remember the 'That's So Raven' episode about fighting racism. What about that? Disney Channel, what has happened to you?

I like disney channel. my absolute FAVORITE disney show is Jonas. the show about the jonas brothers. it reminds my dad about the monkeys, lol. (it was a show way back when...)

Idk why, but disney aims more toward teens.

I like Suite life on deck, Sonny with a chance, Wizards of waverly place, Jonas (of course ;) ), and most of em

i never really watch animated shows anyway. i just like animated movies. (like the balto movies xD)

I also hate the fact that Asian and Indians are labled as nerds and game geeks.

To be honest, the Asian thing (mainly any character played by either Brenda Song or Anna Maria Perez de Tagle) seems to have swung completely in the opposite direction (i.e.: making them total idiots). I could semi-understand it with the London Tipton role but not with any of the others.

Now, as a male viewer, one thing that has increasingly grated on me is how the guys are written, which usually falls into the following (with examples):

1. Obsessed with money (Cory Baxter, to some degree Zack Martin)

2. Those with delusions of being "God's gift to pre-teen girls" (Zack Martin, Oliver Oken)

3. Wimpy nerd (also known as Cody Martin)

I had very little use for Lizzie McGuire (partly due to what the show opened the floodgates for), but one thing I'll give the show credit for was how they wrote Gordo as actually normal. He was definitely one character I wouldn't have minded getting a show of his own.

I disagree. I think Cody is a very good role model, but he isn't conveyed in the right way.

I can see where you're coming from, and as a whole I'm not knocking him for being smart. My problem seems to be how they kept writing him as a borderline crybaby (especially during Season 2 of TSLOZAC).

Adding commercials in '97 was the beginning of the end. I did watch it for a while after that, but by the time they canned 101 Dalmatians the Series I was pretty much done with it. Then my younger brother would watch it, but now he watches garbage on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network instead, because there's nothing on the station for him to watch.

They added commercials, but the only thing is: they dont do commercials like nick or cartoon network or any other station...

they just do previews and new episodes and upcoming movies, movie surfers, and some more stuff.

There is NO advertising of products (sometimes there is... like what sponsors disney.)

And commercials are more short, but the bad thing is that they do more breaks.
