That's the fact behind why Bolt is more famous than Balto, not because people like Bolt more
I must somewhat Disagree here..
I do believe that "Bolt" has more fans, simply because more people know about it.
I don't mean people like him/the movie more, I mean more people Like him, (completely the opposite in other words)
And Major reasoning for this is due to the fact that , Disney I am assuming has a much higher budget, therefore they aren't limited to the amount of advertisment they can produce for a single film. Besides that "Bolt" Was an original idea, though "Balto" was too, to a certain extent (Considering it was far from being historically correct), Basically they added their own twists and plot etc, to make it more relatable.
Both are good films in their own right, and I love and own both. Bolt is simply more eye appealing, and came out in an era in which people surround themselves with entertainment via Television.
Balto was a great film for its era, I remember it being in theatres, I do believe I was in 5th or 6th grade back then (not sure).Either way, contrary to popular beliefe amoung a select handful of fans, balto DID Get advertisement and marketing, just not as good as Bolt did. But Disney has more knowledge on how to do such, where as Universal doesn't. Budget also comes into play as I've stated before, and Disney isn't as limited money wise, much like Universal, so that is one major reason!
But don't get too mad, Like I said "Balto" Did get publicity, just not as much. Here are some examples of what I mean:
1.) Balto was in theatres (Thats a huge deal... though due to lack of commercial advertisement and almost little to no "Trailers" and such, he wasn't as noticed)
2.) Hardee's Came out with Balto toys in their "Kids Meals" ( I remember getting a few myself)
3.) KFC in the UK Came out with Balto figures in their Kids meals as well.
4.) Toys R Us in the States came out with an Awesome Set of Plushies (Big sitting up Balto, Small laying Balto, Big Sitting up Jenna, Small Laying Jenna and Muk)... These things are quite rare now, and are highly saught after, and have been known to go for anywhere to 100 to 300 dollars on ebay. Alot of Disney stuff don't even go for that much.
I also happen to have some merchandise that wasn't available outright, but were won as prizes or raffles on a Radio station (Wrapping paper/ pencils / Cassette tape etc / Window Decals)
Theres another reason I feel balto didn't get as much publicity, and that is sadly I have a feeling, Universal Didn't have very high expectations for the film to begin with, thus resulting in them severly limiting the money put into it (whether that be Marketing or whatever)
If you don't have high expectations for something, you are naturally NOT gonna put your "All" Into it, for fear of loosing money, thats business.
And that Is my 0.2 on the matter, Basically both are good, just different eras, different companies and different style of movie! Its not really right to pit them against each other, cus they are very different from one another.
