Last time, it was just the fact you'd won, there was no actual award if I remember correctly but this time Forbidden Studios has had the idea of making an image that will (hopefully) be automatically placed under the persons name, avatar etc. saying which award they won, when and their name.

It's all in the first page of this topic really.

great idea!!!! i think it would be really fun to do this but there will probably be people who come along and ruin it by saying something like this:
"i think all the popular people will get it..... i never win anything, i'm so unlucky!!!"
but thats their problem

I like those suggestions Aniu.

I personally think that one person can only win one award.
In the event that one person is nominated for two awards and get to the final x number of people to vote for and end up being voted winner for both then the judges should have to come a unanimous decision about which best suits that person, the other award shall go to the person who would have come second.
(Please tell me you understood all that? D: )

I have no idea who won last time, it was way back in 2006 and I can't find the old topic so I fear it's ended up deleted over time. I seem to remember it was in the Introductions section...

I also -think- mods weren't allowed to be nominated. I don't remember why though.

Yeah, I understood. And I agree ^.^ And, I don't remember if mods were allowed to be nominated or not either. But, if they weren't, that might be the best idea, especially if the mods are going to end up judging. That all comes down to who everyone thinks the best people to judge are.

*EDIT*

Oh, and speaking of the old topic, look what I found! ^.^ Click here to see the Original Balto Source Awards!

It seems mods were allowed to compete, based on the results.

Hm, maybe mods and/or members who are judges cannot be nominated. Anyone else is fair game - so to speak. P=

O: How'd you manage that? XD *bows* I am not worthy. At least now we can see the names each award was given too. That helps.

Yep, I agree with that. Judges can't be nominated. And, since there's no activity, I'll volunteer to be a judge, if no one else will. Of course, the members should get a say in who is the judge, so if you guys don't want me and would rather have someone else, it won't hurt my feelings or anything. Just speak up and I'll step down ^.^

Shall I get to work on a new topic for it then, or did you want to UK? And who else wants to help judge or be involved in production?

I'm thinking we should work out what date it should start - and end before a topic is made (Not fussed who makes it really). Possibly 1st January is a good time to start. All votes must be in by 30th March? Results on the 10th April?
I'm mainly trying to give people enough time to see the awards and to choose who to vote for - then vote. Maybe what I suggested just now is too much time?

What the prizes are (properly). Thus far there is no option to activate an image below the name/avatar/etc. so someone would have to talk to Steet about whether that's even possible - and if not; how else to give the awards? (Giving the link to an image to put in a sig wouldn't really work I don't think..).

What awards there actually are, last time it was pretty much all Balto related but the TLK section of the site has since grown a lot so I was thinking making it more like so:

Overall awards:
Wolf award award
- The most responsible newbie and one who has shown great pleasure in his or her first two weeks here.
Lion award - The one who's the most active, while posting useful messages.
Eagle award - The member who post very few messages but the most interesting ones.
Monkey award - Most comic(funny) member.
Bear award - Most helpful member.
Spirit award - The mod you think does the best job in their area. NOT your friend who happens to be a mod. ANY mod can be nominated - Including forum, site sections etc. Not including news editors(who aren't also mods) or webrankers - they're not mods. NOT a mod who is a judge.

Balto awards:
Jenna award
- Best Fan fic writer on Balto Source.
Balto award - Best Fan art drawer on Balto Source.
Kodi Award - Best music video creator on Balto Source.
Aleu award - Best Fan image creator on Balto Source.
White wolf award - Best Fan music composer on Balto Source.
Grandma Rosy award - Best Gamebook creator on Balto Source.

Lion King awards:
Nala award
- Best fan fic writer on Lion King Source.
Simba award - Best Fan art drawer on Lion King Source.
Kovu award - Best music video creator on Lion King Source.
Kiara award - Best Fan image creator on Lion King Source.
Rafiki award - Best Fan music composer on Lion King Source.
Zazu award - Best Gamebook creator on Lion King Source.

(Aiming for a selection of background animals from both Balto and TLK for the overall awards and characters for the Balto/TLK awards.)

Obviously, any person who wins, for example, the Balto Source fan art award cannot win the Lion King Source fan art award.
If the results show they've been voted to win for both then the judges give them the award they got the most votes for. The person in 2nd then moves up to 1st in the opposite award (3rd becomes 2nd and 4th becomes 3rd).

No one can change their vote - once you've voted that's it.

Also, can judges be nominated?

How to tally the votes so all judges can see who's been nominated and how many times, to help stop any chance of cheating if judges CAN be nominated.

Should mods be nominated/have a mod award?

Yes, mods were allowed to compete and win; and I can't see why it should be different this time: I agree that those who judge should not be voted, but why all the mods? :p

This is the idea for "official" BS contests. Not member contests.

Since it's not really a member contest, and we've done it before, it would be nice to make it an official contest that we have yearly, or maybe even bi-yearly. I think it would be a neat idea any, but I also see where it could cause some complications.

I think mods should be allowed to be nominated, but judges shouldn't be. If a judge won, it could be seen as unfair to other members, because the judges are the ones counting the votes. Perhaps, so that every time we do this the same people aren't allowed to be nominated, we could rotate judges every time? Start with volunteers who haven't judged before and would like a chance, and if no one volunteers, exclude the judges from last time and pick a number from 1 to 15 or something like that. The 4 people (or however many judges are needed) closest to the number the old judge, or Steet or Togo picks become the new judges.

As far as a moderator award, that would be an interesting idea. Say for the moderator who had shown the most exemplary leadership skills, best judgment, etc? Once again, judges should not be nominated for this, or past winners in the future. It could be called the Spirit award maybe?

All of the other awards sound great. I like the start date as January 1, it nicely goes with the beginning of the year. As for the date all votes should be in, I think maybe it should be just a little sooner. March 1 would give them 2 months, or we could push it back to March 15, then have the votes counted by the 25th. The only issue I have still is if we are going to have a period where people send in nominees, then after that period, we take the top ten people or so and have them listed as the only ones to be vote, that way it would make it a bit easier. Then, if we did it that way, we could have votes for certain people/or awards go to certain judges and those judges could count the votes for those people. It would be a little more organized that way, I think.

If we did it that way, we could have the nomination time from January 1 to January 30. And then we could take a week or so to tally those nominations and come up with the top ten candidates for each award and post them (as well as which mod to send votes to for each award/candidate) and then actual voting could start say about February 10 and go through March 31. Then we could get the votes tallied and have them by about Friday, April 10. What do you think?

Aye, agreed with Aniu. I can see how it may cause problems - "How come so-and-so won an award and I didn't!? D<". That can be easily answered though as it's simply who stands out to other members - want to win an award next time? = Be a good member.
If it's a creations award - strive to improve.

I think yearly is a good idea, there's enough time in one year I think and it has a better chance of surviving.

Hmm, maybe have 2 judges each time then? I can't see there being that much of a problem for 2 people to keep track of all the votes.
Also - should just mods be judges or anyone? I can't see anyone being too offended either way, in the end, it just means they have a chance of winning something. Also, creating a quick free-forum for the votes tallying wouldn't be a bad idea, make it so anyone signing up has to be approved and they have to sign up with their BS username or they won't be accepted and set permissions so only registered users can view it. It'd be a good place to keep everything neat and tidy and to stop the chance of anyone managing to sneak a look at the votes.

Perhaps compile a list of everyone who would volunteer to be a judge and seperate everyone into 2's and do it the same way the fan news is meant to be done. The first 2 people judge this year and then each year it goes down the list until it gets to the end when it starts from the top again.
Example (if there were 6 people who volunteered):
Judge 1 & Judge 2: January - March 2009 awards.
Judge 3 & Judge 4: January - March 2010 awards.
Judge 5 & Judge 6: January - March 2011 awards.
Judge 1 & Judge 2: January - March 2012 awards.
And so on.

Hmm, perhaps my previous idea of 2 judges per year isn't so good then - should be 3. That way one judge can handle the Overall awards, the other could handle the Balto Source awards and the other could handle the Lion King Source awards.
(*Is too lazy to edit all the above again - Just alter it in your mind to 3 judges instead of 2*)

All votes in by March 1st sounds good, still plenty of time. Perhaps if then the votes are counted and the top 6 people are listed and people then have to vote again - this time they're ONLY allowed to vote people listed, as you said. Any other name will be discounted. Say...all votes in by March 1st, count them all up by March 8th and put the new list up and all those votes to be in by the 30th. Counted and have the results out by April 10th.

That sounds good. I don't think it really matters if it's a mod or a member who judges, just so long as the person volunteers and is willing to stick with it until the end. I'm so sorry I'm replying again to this so late! We're going to be a little off schedule because of me, but luckily with all the down time between vote tallying, we should be alright. Röckandi has volunteered to help out, so I'll send a pm and ask about judging. I'll volunteer to judge this time to help things go smoothly, and UK, did you want to judge this time? If not, anyone else can volunteer and the first to volunteer and be willing to work hard and be fair will get the job.

All other volunteers for judging next year or the year after can pm me or post here and I'll work on keeping a list.

The nomination period will start Wednesday, January 21 (to give us just a few more days to get it all settled out with the judges) and between then and now I'll post an OFFICIAL topic for this with everything laid out in detailed, easy to read fashion with all the rules and everything. Sometime on Monday or Tuesday evening (before Midnight in France, figured we'd use that time since that's what the site runs by anyway) I'll post which nominations go to which judge (depending on who wants to judge for BS, LKS, and AS) and any nominations sent before 12:00 AM website time (that's France's time) January 21 will NOT be accepted. Of course, I'll also put a little clock to let you guys know what time it is in France, that way you no one will miss the deadlines ;)

So dates/deadlines again:

12:00 AM Wednesday January 21: The nomination period begins. Nominations sent before then will not be counted. Nominations must be sent to the correct judge.
12:00 AM Sunday March 1: The nomination period officially closes. No nominations will not be accepted after 12:01 AM.
Sometime before March 7 (Added another day for voting): 6 top Candidates for each award announced.
12:00 AM Saturday March 7: Voting for award winners begins. Votes will only be counted if sent after 12:00 AM and if sent to the correct judge.
12:00 AM Saturday April 4 (A few extra days added to compensate): Voting officially ends. Votes sent after 12:00 AM will not be counted.
Early Friday April 10 (or sooner, depending on how long counting takes): Official results posted.

Judges so far:
Aniu Caelestis
Röckandi ?
UK ?

And FS is working on award gifs, right? Since it doesn't look like those will be added to the page under their name, I guess they can just be posted in the winner's sig and profile on the main site.

Sound good? If so, I'll get to work on the official topic.

I'll be using a countdown clock like this to keep track of the times:
