That is contradictory. Wisdom springs from maturation tempered by self-control, a burgeoning morality, and strong values. And while all people eventually lose most of their youthful innocence as they age, it is a strong person (and a wise one) who manages to hold onto some small artifact of their youth and innocence in adulthood. A person who loses that entirely will end up as an incomplete individual - shallow, conceited, and also hateful and intolerant of youth and all things which celebrate being young. (Something most members of this forum would - and have - said they hate...adults who talk down to them and don't pay them any degree of respect or seriousness. Such adults have abandoned all aspects of their youth. Is that what you think is a good thing?)

And while the Disney version of the original Bambi story (written in the 1920s by Austrian author Felix Salten) is a bit sanitized and seriously cut down in scope, it does honor the basic story elements. Besides, the Bambi character does mature and endure conflict later in the first movie. And grows wise and experienced because of it...just as his father did. You can see the emerging wisdom and maturation of the character as the movie moves into Bambi's adulthood. So I definitely think you are not giving the movie its due.

I agree greatly Jersey. Somethings about youth needs to be kept to be a good person. Innocence and imagination primerally. Too many people forget everything from their youth, they need to have some parts of their youth to be good people. Without those things, we're, as you say, shallow, conceit, and hateful of youth. I hate it when adults threat kids like they don't know anything.

Anyway, I liked the original Bambi but haven't had the chance to see Bambi II, I'm kinda embeeressed about getting it on DVD, there are those around me that think I'm too old for stuff like that. I do know some things about it, like them growing up...and Flower acting more like a skunk, I'm sure someone knows what I meant.

Well, you could always say you're getting it as a gift...and even ask for a gift receipt. Personally, I don't give a ***** what people think if I happen to buy a cartoon movie or series on DVD. I may never see them again...or, if I do, by then they will probably have forgotten that I bought a cartoon DVD.

But thanks for agreeing. Yes, in most ways, adults (and especially young adults) who make every effort to abandon even a slight artifact of their youth invariably ends up dead inside. And I do mean dead.

I wouldn't advocate deception, but on every other count Jersey's making a lot of sense. It's dumb to let a remark like "immature" stop you from enjoying a good movie. Heck, I hardly ever watch anything over G! And C.S. Lewis, whom I'm sure you've heard of, boasted that he read fairy tales openly at age 50, after having done it in secret at 5.

I find nothing contradictory with my statement. It is contradictory from your point of view. Maybe most of the adults you have encountered have come off as conceited or shallow even talking down to younger kids. The fact of the matter is that the world is a cynical place on that I think you and I can agree on.It is hard to maintain some shred of innocence as you mature into an adult. Most people would regard this as a defect in your personality. When I went to Disneyworld in Florida or Disneyland either one I don't know. I felt uncomfortable in the park, it was perhaps that the world it tried to present was fake. The fact is that the world isn't all butterflies and gumdrops. It is filled with alot of sorrow and I guess that is what I wanted to see at least some shred of how the world really is. Or maybe that alot of the rides were geared towards kids and not 17 year olds since that is how old I was at the time.
I won't even have my kids watch this film that is even if I have children which is debatable at the present time. I lost my innocence as a child long ago and I retain no elements of it in my adult life. Our society is focused on trying to grow up as fast as we can and the sooner the better. Trying to remain Peter Pan is not a good thing. As for gaining wisdom I prefer to quote Philip Pullman who said "Innocence is not wise, and wisdom cannot be innocent, and if we are going to do any good in the world, we have to leave childhood behind."

Before moving on, I completely agree with Jersey Captain. That being said, I have a very positive personality and clash heavily with negative minded people, it just makes me angry because our personilities are so incapatable. Anyway, back on subject, I'd like to use that excuse but...I don't have any money of my own and my parents are one of those people that say I'm too old for it.

I got the original Bambi (2-DVD set) under the "pretense" of a Mother's Day gift. I call it a "pretense" because even though I did give it to her, I ended up watching it way more than she did. So it wasn't a lie, but it was an excuse.

Typically, I root for the hero becuse they're characters are specifically designed to be well-liked, and in the original movie, Bambi was my fav

however, in the sequel I loved Ronno; such a humorous over-confident kid :3
