Adriana laughed and shot off after the fish. She saw its dark sillhouete skimming along the rocky bottom of the river and made a dive for it, but she aimed too shallow, making a clumsy splashing sound and the fish zipped away in fright. She snorted angrilly at her failure.

"Sorry." she said apollegetically to Shasta, but then she laughed and rolled the puppy onto her belly, slpashing water at her playfully.

Tytia smiled at Adriana and Shasta as he sat with his good friend Emuku on the banks of the river. She acts like a pup herselfhe thought. Adriana kept him feeling young and alive, with her playful attitude to life and free spirit. Which brought back painful memories of the deal that he had made. How these years had flown by so fast. It seemed only yesterday that she was a tiny bewildered and gullible puppy, always running off and getting into trouble. In a couple of weeks it would be her official Coming of Age ceremony, and she would be officially an adult wolf of the pack. I will have to tell her then, he thought, and he could feel his throat tightening and tears prick the very edges of his eyes. But he soon blinked them away. Tytia had not cried for years. Tytia smiled at his daughter, Shasta, ruffling her tufty fur as she sat on his front paws. He was delighted with how she took an interest in everything around her, always eager to learn, always eager to please. "Who made this kill?" she asked, her voice loud and bold. Then she saw Kallen who was covered in fresh blood, and nodded gratefully at her. Then she seated herself by the best part of the kill, which was reserved for the alpha's, not saying anything about it. Authority spoke for itself. After the first few mouthfuls she nodded, allowing the others to sit down and eat their fill.
