Sarah, I've noticed that you've been pestering JC no matter WHERE he posts. Ya think you can ease off, just a little?
To get back on topic...Simple answer. Balto was neutered, so there was really no WAY for him to have kids. In that sense, no, he doesn't have any direct descendents.

That's funny, because I've noticed that Sarah is simply providing additional information, whereas JC has been typically ill-mannered with his responses to her, through condescension, ridicule and his ever-present superiority complex. Pretty easy to see where the actual problem is. If you want somebody to ease off, you're addressing the wrong person.

Here's something that might help to shed some light on this subject. I have a copy of a photo of a dog who is identified as "Keni". It is a newspaper photo and is dated May 23, 1929. Here's part of what the caption under this black & white photo says:
"KENI, a half-sister of Balto, was in Cleveland yesterday. She is on her way back to Alaska after making a cross-country trip....."
At this time, I'm just taking the photo and caption at face value. It might be interesting to do some follow-up on this.
I can't reproduce or display this photo because it is owned by the Cleveland, Ohio Public Library and is subject to copyright restrictions. If anyone would like a copy of this photo, you could contact the Photograph Collection section of the library. It looks like their reference or catalog # for this photo is 1360-H.
The dog in the photo has a fairly short coat, She has some white "stockings" that are similar to Balto. In looking at her head features, there appears to be the hint of some other breed in her background, other than Siberian. This might be another example of what author Mary Lee Davis said about Leonhard Seppala being involved in the cross breeding of some of his dogs for a short time?
P. S. - I'm wasn't trying to gang up on JerseyCaptain in this section. I just wanted to ask him about what proof he had for a statement he made about Seppala family descendants (in my message dated July 4 @ 1:33 PM). JerseyCaptain replied in a message dated later that afternoon by asking me what proof I had that the Seppala family descendants didn't do what he said they did. I then replied to him in my message of July 4 @ 8:57 PM. But right after I sent that last reply, JerseyCaptain's message was gone! It was there not long before I started my reply, and was gone after I sent it.

That's a pretty convenient way to not provide information. All you would have to do is contact the Ohio Public Library itself, and request permission to post it. And if you cannot, then you are really not trying very hard at all, and offering nothing particularly relevant or provable to the conversation. Sarah Siberian wrote: P. It was there not long before I started my reply, and was gone after I sent it. The post I made, most of which had completely relevant and important information, was removed by a moderator who has yet to identify him or herself. Though I suspect I am aware of who it is. Meanwhile, I said one thing that apparently was interpreted as flame baiting, even though I refuse to acknowledge that, and have brought the matter to steet and Grey Wolf, and they are aware of it and will be looking into it. There has been some borderline flame-baiting at me throughout three topics on this board, where there almost never has been before. From a person who registered almost to the day I returned and began posting recently. I find that particularly strange. I have never sought out fights here, and have freely admitted when I have been wrong, and evidence has been provided which can make that impossible to refute. But when someone throws out vague references without any tangible evidence, I refuse to perform any sort of mea culpa or thump my chest and cry out how terribly wrong I allegedly was. But when a person goes digging through old material, some of which dates back a few years, in order to dig at me and try to make me look the fool, I find that to be a problem. And I am entitled to argue the point (so long as I do so without actual flame baiting, which I have not done). In spite of one moderator who seems to think otherwise. Meanwhile... Perhaps, Sarah, if you were to attach these newspaper clippings you claim to have, as images, then that will help clear up some stuff. For now, we have to guess at what you're trying to describe.

There are written permission request forms that need to be filled out and authorized. There are fees that need to be paid, and some of them can be very expensive. And I'm just not going to deal with all of that to put a photo and article on this forum. Besides, there's no need for me to do that.
If anyone has any doubts about what I said regarding the photo and article of the dog, there's an easy enough way for them to check it out. Contact the Cleveland Ohio Public Library. I provided all the necessary info. in my previous message about how to find this photo and article. There will probably be a fee involved. You can contact the Cleveland Library by regular mail, by email and by telephone. All of the contact info. is on their website.
And now, back to something else. JerseyCaptain made some pretty serious allegations about the Seppala family descendants in this section of the forum. SInce he has not yet responded to my original inquiry, I would like to ask him once again:
(1) What is your proof that any Seppala kennel records exist?
(2) What is your proof that the Seppala family descendants have been keeping any existing kennel records "a closely-guarded secret"?
(3) What is your proof that any of Leonhard Seppala's descendants "are not known for being the sharing sort"?

(2) What is your proof that the Seppala family descendants have been keeping any existing kennel records "a closely-guarded secret"?
(3) What is your proof that any of Leonhard Seppala's descendants "are not known for being the sharing sort"? Many places do not charge a fee to gain permission to post or use a photograph (especially an historical one, as most historical photos and even documents, in accordance with U.S. copyright law, actually belong in the public domain before a certain date), they simply require that the ownership and copyright information be clearly indicated. Of these, only a couple that I know of are exceedingly strict regarding fees: The Peabody Museum of Natural History (of Yale University) and the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle, Washington. The Carrie M. McLain Museum in Nome, Alaska, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History in Cleveland, Ohio, the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Alaska...these and others have been more forthcoming. As to the question of the Seppala family, I have never given insult. I have simply said they are stubborn and guarded about releasing certain information. And that is nothing unusual for any family holding important documents. I have the greatest respect for the Seppala family, and no amount of spin doctoring or twisting of the facts by Sarah Siberian is going to change that. You raised the question and challenged it. You prove otherwise. Or leave it alone.

Also pointing out what you're doing isn't trying to incite a battle. You've already done that, obviously. That's why your posts were deleted.

Stop distorting the facts and, really, stop trying to drag this thing into the flame war you clearly want. I am NOT going to play, and that is the last response I have to offer you. Period. From this point on (as I have been), I am just going to keep reporting your posts when they are composed of incendiary language. Hey mods...can we please deal with this obvious secondary attempt to foment a flame war? Huh?
