I'm honestly confused. Everyone is throwing around their version of what's happening and I don't have a clue.

We've established that fursona mates are gone, forbidden. If everyone's nattering on about that STILL I urge you to get a grip.
Also that character mateships absolutely cannot have any explicitness in them. Period.

So what are we arguing about here? ChaRPing, as I call it? With fictional characters? Fan works with dogs that are mates in them?
Mates in the fanworks world is pretty much the human equivalant to marraige. You don't go any further than that, just to make it clear. I doubt anyone would be as stupid enough as to try scapegoating now.

Let me make this straight - if you're talking about characters' mateships being banned on the forum, it will not be done, no matter how much you plea. When was the last time someone started an RP topic with deviant stuff in it? The worst I've seen is one with characters with different sexualities and even then it was regulated strictly.
But if you do mean ridding the site of all mates including fictional whatsoever, there'll be an uprising.

I agree Cobalt. If mateships were banned in fictionals standards, we could kiss our writings goodbye. That's not gonna happen.

There you go:

Quite simply:
1. Mates are allowed on the forums in the roleplay section.
2. Mates are allowed in fanfictions.
3. Mates are allowed in projects and contests IF the purpose is fanfictions, other types of art accepted on the site, or roleplays (in the forum roleplay section).
Everything else to do with mates is FORBIDDEN.
I see where some confusion might come in, but if you are unsure whether something applies or not, contact a moderator, and they will be able to judge.

Cat - methinks fanart is alright too ^^; but that's as far as my addendum goes.

BUT, I believe that mates in fanart/fanfics should be accepted. That's not the same thing.

Hmm. Well, I think we need to really lay down the law on that though. Some people still think that mate talks (and related stuff) are okay in the PMs, which comes down and affects everything else, as we have seen in several cases.

The mate thing should be added to the rules as soon as possible. People keep asking and misunderstanding and being told wrong things by other members. It would stop a lot of confusion and possibly some banning

I at least make friends here on BS, not to have a mate....But I do agree with cobalt and ara about having a mate for a character or fanfiction but online---no.

I agree with Cobalt and Catadventure. Mates should be allowed in fanfiction, fanart, and other fan things, but not in the whole forum, and in the shoutbox. It's annoying to see someone mate with another someone in a shoutbox... I can say it because i'm a young kid. It's so annoying. And this can disturb other young members. Mates should know that this is a kid friendly site and not for mates and such things... Mates are forbidden.
