Um...go ask how many users with "emo" in their name cut or are really depressed. I'm willing to gamble 10 days of banning that most, if not all, have one of those two traits. The word emo, from what I've seen, is used exclusively as a 'label' for cutting/depression.

Bingo. At least on this site you can visibly see that many users with the "emo" tag in their name or profile are into self-harm. Which is a definite bad thing. Of course, the moderators/administration has not issued a particular stance on the topic - and that lack of stance is only condoning the behavior, which could kill someone - usually the cutter. Basic high school biology/anatomy will tell you that there are two to three arteries in the human arm. Any slicing of these arteries will kill if not treated immediately. It's a fact of life that an artery which is bleeding (which unlike a vein, bleeds out like a fountain) and is not treated the subject will die.

Often is the case that the individual who is cutting will say something to the effect that 'don't worry I'm not gonna commit suicide/I'm not gonna die' - but you cannot really promise that you're not going to die if what you're doing could end your life. Even accidentally. In fact, it reminds me of "the choking game" in which individuals (usually children and teens) would literally stop breathing by actually hanging themselves and other means just to get high.

These rules are getting a little absurd. Look life isn't going to be a piece of cake. Emo is a word and t it pretty much stands for emotional, its a style and banning it is going to cause a lot of unnecessary drama. It causes no harm, it isn't a bad word. Pain is a fact of life, so hiding it and creating a safe little haven isn't going to do anything. The children here are not 4 or 5, the word emo is heard everyday. Banning it from this site will do nothing but cause more drama and more issues and more problems for everyone especially the moderators.

You can only have so many rules on a site before things become borderline ridiculous. I believe we may be reaching that point.

Cutting and depression? This is a stereotype of "Emo". "Emo" is actually a style, people who cut are depressed, not emo. It is merely associated with such things.

Still, "emo" doesn't mean depressive and/or self-harming, it's a genre of music and now a style of clothing (and hair) too.
Many members will be annoyed if this were to become a rule and I'd be one of them, NOT because I am "emo" or condone self harming (which I know plenty about, believe me) but because banning something as small as that is just silly in itself.

To be completely honest, if any kid over the age of 8 doesn't know what "emo" is or at least know OF it they've either lived a very sheltered life or are a bit slow. I hear my little brother and his friends go on about emo all the time, most of whom are in the 9 - 13 age range, coincidentally, almost the same as the age range of this site.

If there's stuff relating to cutting and suicide in profiles then we'll remove it if it's reported, best thing to do is, if you come across a profile with such things in it, copy the link and PM it to a mod and we'll warn user to remove it and if they don't we'll remove it ourselves.

UK - should we do the same when users are saying such things in the boxes and on the forums?

Look, I am emo. Ok? I didn't used to be, but now I am. But whatever, I personally don't care for these topics,
I mean, hey, my style is emo, but I don't cut myself or anything. I want to dye my hair black, but my parents won't let me. (Grrr...) But still, I was gonig to change my username with the word "emo" in it, but now this topic, look, like UK has said before, its a sterotype and music and style, andd all this other stuff so I really don't see any reason why it should be banned.

P.S.-This doesn't affect my decision of putting "emo" in my username. If I want to, I will.

Well I understand you get it, Nava. But other people who have posted here apparantly don't. And yes, UK has settled it, so maybe this should be locked, just a suggestion.
