I agree with every one else (besides Strawberry Splash..sorry) that wolves are definetly misunderstood. And whoever said that the wolf-loving population is big (sorry dont rember the name of said person) I dont agree with that at all. I have been siding with wolves all my life and I have only found 2 people (in my whole life!), that i have met face to face that actually give a hoot about wolves. Why do you think i come here? This is probably one of mabye a handful of sites that hold wolves in a respectable postition...unfortunately. Yes its true that they are potentially dangerous but aren't all animals? If you ask me the humans are the real monsters. Everyday i see people that make me sick to me stomach with their wastefulness, their cruelty, their cold emotionless selfish selves. We were given dominion over all creatures and how do we repay that? With wastefull slaughtering and polluting of our enviroment and the things around us. The native americans were one of the few pople that understood just how selfish that is, and for that I respect them much. If only more people could see what devastation we have caused... (sorry for it being so long!)

Can I please have one example of wolves being portrayed as evil? I don't mean things like Little Red Riding Hood (nobody takes fairytales seriously... they're too busy reading some other crap), I mean things that are fairly recent.

Now, if you look at movies like Barnyard... look at the light the coyotes are in! But does anyone stand up for them?

Lets's see....How about The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe? All of the wolves worked for the evil queen; indicating that Maugrim and the other wolves are evil. A lot of people, especially kids, took that movie very seriously.

Then there are those Jack London books that perpetuate the myth that wolves attack and feed on unwary gold seekers....

Well, It's ok to use wolves as evil charectars. But what I hate is how some people take it so seriously O.- It's a movie, not a "Wolves are blood-thristy vile killers! Hate them hate them!" As some people apper to have taken it.

Exactly! Believe it or not, guys, people in general aren't as stupid and impressionable as you make them out to be.

EDIT: Heh... At least I guess that's what your post meant :P Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, yes they are. People are EXTREMELY impressionable. Harry Potter fans are a perfect example on just how impressionable people really are. As far as stupidity goes; yeah, sadly many people fall under that catagory for reasons too numerous to list.

I personally think that it's wrong to make ANY animals evil in a book, movie or otherwise. There's always gonna be a trigger-happy lunatic that wants to shoot every creature portrayed in negativity. Animals can't be evil; they lack the ability to hunger for revenge or kill simply out of hatred, like humans do.

Authors personify their animal characters; giving them many human characteristics. It's the only way to portray an animal as being evil..

The wolf is simply one of those unlucky subject choices that writers use as a model for evil due to the countless myths throughout time of them working for the devil. Of course, they ignore the actual TRUE stories of wolves helping people throughout time; but, hey, who wants to read a nice, truthful story anyway?

But most people don't take Wolf Quest that seriously. (I mean, a wolf becoming 'one with the tree?') And there are sympathetic wolf characters in it such as Nava. Besides, Niju isn't really 'a big bad wolf,' he just happens to act like it.

I think wolves are misunderstood in different ways. The most obvious is that they are seen as 'bloodthirsty maneaters that seek out and kill people.' That is NOT true. Wolves have attacked and sometimes killed people in the past, but often the animal was rabid or felt threatened. They do not actively seek out people and kill them. Often, it's the other way round.
But wolves are misunderstood in another way too. They are not 'harmless wild versions of your pet dog.' Wolves are still wild animals and should be treated with the utmost respect. Keeping a wolf as a pet is NOT a good idea because it will become very unhappy. Wolves can travel up to 20 miles in a day, and that is something that you cannot recreate in your backyard. They are active and playful animals that love to chase things, be it a rabbit, a ball or a small child. Don't try and keep a wolf just because it's 'cool.' If you really insist on a wolf-like animal, look for a husky, malamute, American Indian dog or a Utonagan. They aren't for beginners, however.

Harry Potter fans... impressionable? I'm one and haven't seen such behavior, so... feel free to elaborate via PM.

The sad thing is, wolves may look different to us, but inside they're the same.

We both have hearts, and brains and feelings (Though some may find that hard to belive) All that is different is our apperance. So like us, a wolf (or any other animal) is born and raised, had fun times and sad times, had a future and a life, and then people take it all away simply because of over-exaturated(sp?) rumours about them being bloodthinsy, vile e.t.c

If only people could see them in a better light.

We don't eat wolves and (hopefully) killing them for thier fur has stopped. But the ONLY reason for killing a wolf is if it is attacking somone, or if it is killing your animals (if you own a farm or soming along those lines) But it's sad the way ghat people kill them for "Fun" or "Because thier going to kill everyone first". Ferrets, dogs, cats, birds of prey, otters all eats meat too, yet it's the larger and well known animals wolves, lions, tigers that are being hunted and killed for it.
