Strawberry Splash wrote: Okay, okay! I'll get an Appaloosa crossed with a Pinto. They are cool looking horses. I'll get a Thoroughbred when I'm a more experienced rider! Are appaloosa's and pinto's good horses? You can go pure bred pinto, they are a much better horse and hardier than the others you have picked from. Pinto will be a good horse. My first horse was a pinto cross Cob, she had the structure of a pinto and the buily of a cob but a chestnut cob colouring.

If you don't know how to ride, you should NOT get a horse. First, learn how to ride for a few years, then, when you know how to handly horses properly, you could buy one. I mean, I have been riding for seven years and I still don't have a horse, that's mainly due to financial issues though. Although, I insist you ride at LEAST 4 years before thinking about getting a horse. Horses are difficult to care for and are expensive. You have to excersise them frequently both by riding them and setting them out to pasture. Considering you haven't had riding lessons, you wouldn't be able to handle a horse yet, not by yourself. Get lessons, then, think about it after 4 years of hard work.

I would not say 4 years but for a really good result at the end, to do 4 years of trainning, it is pretty my easy for me as i was brought up around horses from the day i was born but with you it is different. Emily is right, they are difficult to care for, very difficult if given the right care and are expensive. Excersise them frequently, meaning every day but really riding excersise isn't a big deal, yes it is fun, but not always needed, a 40 min lunge is the most common way to excersise one as i do with on horse due to him not being broken. You must consider having lessons first as Emily stated and horse care trainning. A way to know that have the right knolage to care for one take tests from a trainner as i am taking mine again due to some fails. There is many way you can learn but what Emily has said would be the best way for you to start off with.
