Charlie Wolf wrote: Assuming you are a female, answer this next question of mine honestly and sincerely: "Are you a farmgirl, and/or do you know somebody else personally who is???" The only reason I am asking you this is because if you're used to living around, feeding, and otherwise constantly caring for farm animals, especially food-related ones (i.e. cows, chickens, pigs, etc.), then you might have built up a distinct passion for them over all of those years of being around them, thus treating them more like pets than farm animals, and thus leading up to and mainly explaining your current, eventual despising of their consumers (i.e. me and other meat-eating humans), if ya' know what I mean. -Charlie. [/color] Yes, I'm female. And I don't despise you. No, I don't work on a farm, I never have, and I don't know anybody who does. (One day I think I'd like to though...raise chickens for eggs, stuff like that.) But I know what you mean. I always imagined it must be quite difficult to raise food animals, knowing you're eventually going to kill them. My mom's told me about how my great-grandma couldn't watch the turkeys being decapitated. :p But I guess it's just something that has to be done and you get used to it. I just have always simply had a lot of compassion for animals, that's all, really; I dislike them being hurt or killed. Maybe part of it is thanks to movies like Babe. But I think I'd feel the same, anyway.

I fully respect that opinion. And I didn't mean at all that eating meat means you have no compassion. I wouldn't say to ban it either; really, my whole point was that food animals ought to be treated humanely at all times. ^^

I assume that cows, chickens, etc. aren't abused, tortured, etc. on purpose before eventually slaughtering them; besides, the more healthy the animal(s) is/are, than the healthier the meat that it/they produce(s) is/are for us all to gladly consume!!!!! -Charlie.

I actually do love meat. What I HATE is when they're slaughtered with a chainsaw(Somebody did this to a horse on Animal Planet) or have something heavy tied to their neck and drowned.

Yeah, you'd think "duh," wouldn't you? But as people have been discussing in this thread...sadly there is often a LOT of cruelty and carelessness involved in the slaughter of animals that have lived short, utterly miserable lives. There are endless places online and in books to read about what goes on...

I love meat and I feel that we have a right to eat it because we're omnivours. It's why we have those pointy canine teeth in our mouths - to eat meat. There's nothing wrong with following your instincts. I try to eat Free Range meat, that's had a long happy life and is killed humanely. Death for animals raised for meat is quick and painless. I can understand why some people want to become vegetarians, and I'm fine with that - I even have a teacher who is a vegetarian. But I hate animal welfare groups like PETA who try to force it on you, and say that you can't love animals and protect the Earth if you eat meat. Over here in England, they actually did this advertising campaign saying that 'eating meat makes children fat and they can only be thin on a vegan diet.' And guess what? The Advertising Standards actually let them go ahead with it, even though PETA have no scientific evidence or research to back it up. They just try and scare people with obesity statistics and stuff.

Good post outlaw, i agree with you, I never heard about pigs being fed the recalled dog food how disgusting . I just wish there was a system to tell how humanely our meat etc is produced-IE Eggs/chicken: Battery farmed and additives to make the chickens grow faster- . Barn eggs few or no additives- . Free range, no additives or other cruel methods-grincolonp.gif. I know that was a bit strange but it makes my point! Sheba
