Notice the color of the snow in the first image. It's reddish orange from the reflection of the sun. Also note the snow trailing midair behind Balto forepaws.
Compare the color of the snow in both images. Also, blood droplets would not be that large or fall that fast. Especially from a smack in the head that hard. Hehe, in the top picture, Balto looks like he's doing the crank that dance! LOL

When I was little I thought those were sun spots, you know those circles that appear when you take a photo with the sun next to your subject. After seeing those images I'm now positive it was just snow. Even if the rock was hard and the colission (sp?) was as well, the laws of physics don't have to apply in animation. Even if your trying to make a feature more realistic you still don't need to be chained down to real-life (an example being the dogs can talk).

Well, maybe I'm not very observant, but I never noticed any "blood" at all XD Any anyways, I don't think there would be any blood in the first place. For those who say "Balto couldn't have been hit that hard and not have shed any blood", well, in the scene where Balto and the medicine fell all the way down the mountain, it is later shown that none of the capsules of medicine were broken. How is that possible? (Take another look at that cliff and you'll see what I mean.) Simple because it's a children's movie, and anything can happen.

Sorry i must argue this Attachment: Balto Scene.png Ok now look at the picture closly. where he hit his head there is apsolutly No snow what so ever on there. But it is red. I think its the reflection but i can't be for sure. Attachment: Balto Scene (2).png Now look right under Balto here. There is snow. But i don't think if you smash a Jelliton head into snow that snow will go flying off of the rock. Maybe we shoudl call in MythBusters to test this out for real. It's a really hard choice but now i believe its snow. I'm mean yea you would get a pretty bad headache after words but balto just got right back up with out a problem.

Since when is Blood round when it's flying though the air, dude? What are you arguing against? It's like first you say, "it's Blood!!!!" Then you say,"it's snow!!!!!" Just say it's a blooper and call it even.

You've got a point, and you're right you make an interesting agument, but blood doesn't just squrk right out of you're head and look like a flying baseball...it looks like both our sugestions it wrong, but i have a new one.... It was a peace of the boulder he hit, a loose part of the boulder!

It could be blood because hitting a head hitting a rock could cause bleeding well since it's black cuz snow and blood has a solid color so I dunno.
