Quote: The picture in the DVD image isn't lost, NSTC televisions crops 4:3 and the 18% of the image Do you have both dvds? Did you try to compare? As far as I know, it's not the tvs which crops the image, but it has already been cropped before it was put on the disk. Quote: Just be happy that the DVD of Balto was released... seriously. Thanks to Wolf Quest...Otherwise I'm sure it would still not have been released at all...But still, only Universal out of all the studios, has never released any special edition dvds for its animated films... Quote: which means a special edition DVD isn't going to happen... period.
Sure, if we don't do anything, it won't happen. But showing support from the fans to the studios can never be a bad thing. I'm sure they don't know how many Balto fans there are...

Discounted screen panning, corrected colors, and uncompressed the IFO & BIN DVD files into a native 1920 x 1080 resolution -as opposed to a cropped 4:3 version set at 640 x 480- with Final Cut Pro. Added uncompressed PCM audio as compared to standard AU3 audio with Soundtrack Pro and added finished menus- with art and movie clips I created- with DVD Studio Pro 3.8. A tweaked dvd can't get to the level of a real restored version of a film... BTW, you should probably have used the european DVD instead of the american one, you would have real widescreen instead of cropped 4/3. I don't think that with any software you could get all the missing parts of the picture... The picture in the DVD image isn't lost, NSTC televisions crops 4:3 and the 18% of the image; the DVD keeps the image 1:1 (although the Region 1 boxes claim 4:3 because a set standard television runs a screen aspect (and panning) of 4:3. Newer DVDs however are split into both 16:9 and 4:3 disks. Older disks were in letterbox 1:1 format, which allowed a single disk to cooperate with both 16:9 and 4:3 televisions smoothly. Quote: Quote: I could sign the petition, but I don't expect much accomplishment out of this proposal. Universal Studios has more purposeful uses for their DVD Menu Designers and Animators for their new featured films that have had more success than that of Balto. I have seen less popular films getting much better treatments...Who said The last unicorn? Ferngully? Just be happy that the DVD of Balto was released... seriously. Quote: Quote: I strongly believe that there's a better chance for Balto: Special Edition to be released on Blu-ray before a regular DVD is to be released. Blu-ray? You must be kidding...You really have no idea of the real market. You can still find VHS versions for the animated films, while it's impossible to find VHS for any other kind of films, for a good reason : children are very late adopters, whent it comes to getting new equipments. Especially because of price issues. I can assure you that the DVD format will be used for a very long time for the animated films, before any new format will take its place...I would say, not before 5 years... Yeah... that was sarcasm. With the low popularity of Blu-ray (although I'm in the minority that purchased a Blu-ray player that wasn't just a PS3), I mockingly state that there are better chances a special edition will be be released on blu-ray before DVD- which means a special edition DVD isn't going to happen... period.
Um your wrong Blu-ray is getting to be very popular now that disney signed up to make Blu-ray DVD

Also, I know that VHS still sells quite well, especially for animated movies. Like Steet has said, blu-ray will not be very used for many years.
Well i said it is growing in popularly i found that out when working at hollywood video about 12 times a day with different people they ask if we carry Blu-ray

I'm not going to read all three pages, so I'll just answer steet's first page posts.
As for signing, I did.
As for the BS fans not motivated; working really hard takes its time. However, we are nothing but a mere fraction of the world's population, and there are billions of websites on the net to advertise on, while 60% of these are restricted to advertisement of sites only related to that website.
We are motivated, most of us would probably die if it would help revive Balto again (I would, at least), so don't feel bad. steet, I know it may seem few of us are motivated to you, but you wouldn't believe how much we work to promote this website... and I (probably, not sure) speak for (surely?) the majority of BS users(?).
And the reason for not putting links to BS on videos uploaded on youtube might come of certain restrictions.

I'm sure other people have parents who would say the same thing... but I'm sure a few have signed without even asking, which I know my parents would most likely take my account of BS. You have to give your name (or nickname) and your e-mail. The same info you have to give to register on Balto Source, with the only difference that for the petition you don't use a password.
Thanks! Well, the email is why I cannot sign... do that, and in big trouble, I will be. Plus, I do think it is HIGHLY risky giving your email over internet... bad idea, I think.

Steet: Hey dude! Just saying, I signed the petition, but also dont worry. I'm sure people are trying to help get this site better known (sorry for bad sentence structure). I know I am anyway. So far I have told everyone I know who likes wolves or dogs. I think I might actually get one of them to be a member. But she likes to be a guest for some reason.

Also, pretty much everybody in my whole school know about Balto now. We had Open Mike Friday a few weeks ago and one of my poems was the story of the real Balto. Everyone in my class saw it in person and then the school played the whole thing on TV's in our homerooms the next day.
