WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? Dogs were domesticated for labor. Dogs probably destroyed quite a bit of tanks. And we must change the past, because a few lousy animals died?

Thousands upon thousands of people die in great wars. Far less dogs die. If we change the past to not use dogs, we could also change the past to not use humans. My point is, not only dogs died.

Ha, enough "courage"? The Soviet Union was the most powerful country, feared by everyone, and they singlehandedly (pretty much) defeated facism and Germany. What were most other countries doing? Sitting back and relaxing. And get use better grammar before insulting my heritage.

I hate to burst your bubble here, but your heritage isn't all rainbows and sunshine: comrade Stalin wasn't really a nice old chap ( :D gulag :D ), you know. And do I need to remind you that after 'single handedly' (with a great deal of US-aid sent in through Murmansk and Vladivostok)deafeating fascism, the Soviet Union locked half of Europe (take Poland, for instace) behind the iron curtain, guaranteeing yet another five decased of tyrany and opression?
No offence, but just try being a bit more humble, as some people (from Poland, for example) might take offence at a far too one-sided outlook on these matters.

No countries background is "sunshine and rainbows." Therefor, that does not need to be addressed. And just for the record, Russia IS a world super power, so they must be doing a lot of things right, there is no arguing with that. I am also irritated that many of you are judging a country fully by how they wage war. Sure, using dogs strapped with explosives isn't the most moral idea, but it is far more moral than using humans for the suicide tactics. Congratulations, people. Many of you have judged about 141,377,752 people JUST because of the way they wage war. Now how moral is that?

I was not judging a country, nor it's inhabitants, nor the way they waged (past tense, by the way) war. I just take note of how they waged war.
What I do condemn is historical revisionism which is often a byproduct of patriotism.

Dogs were used in the war by USSR. They died. That can be mourned, if need be.
Humans died in the war too, of which aproximatly 25000000 from the USSR. That has to be mourned. The suffring of a handfull of dogs pales in their comparison. These are the only relevant facts to the discussion.
But please, leave national heritages out of this, because, as I said, they might offend people (for the reasons I stated). This applies espeacially to the "Other countries were just sitting back"-part.
Then again, I should appologise for my previous statement; I got carried away there. I did not mean to bring up those fact to offend anyone, only to serve as a reminder that open national pride is best avoided as not to offend anyone on a forum that is not really the place for these sorts of things.

Loup Caché, how dare you! How dare you!! How dare you trivialize my great-uncle Danny's and my great-uncle Norman's suffering and service. They served in World War II proudly and helped to defend your homeland and the rest of the world from Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan. My uncle Danny was on the Batan Death March so don't you even dare to say he sat on his rear and did nothing. The Japanese cut off Marines' fingers and ate them. Yeah, he didn't do squat to fight in WWII. In case you've forgotten, England, the US and many other countries fought the Nazis. Who was that on D-Day, I'm just curious.

That comment makes me absolutely sick and you ought to be ashamed of yourself for trying to say that only Russia suffered during World War II. Y

You didn't burst it, because the US has been known to make up lies (this particular one I'd have to admit is possible). 'Locked half of Europe'-what does that mean? That we had it under our control? Did we opress it? Build a wall between us? Seperate us? Fifty years of tyranny and opression? Really, you're quite a historian.

Maybe not cupcakes and magical unicorns and rainbows, but we were the most powerful country, feared by all. As if any nation's history is. Offer me one example, just one.

Amazing I didn't know of the U.S.'s help. Being a Russian, yeah, well, I guess they never told me any of that. Because my parents don't recall, neither do my grandparents.

Ooh, Stalin made a prison? Is that why he is so bad?

Keyword: MOST countries. My great grandpa died, during World War II. In my point of view, other countries besides those close to Germany didn't have to do anything, because I don't think Nazi Germany was trying to target them. Not that I am saying other people died in vain.

I never said Russia is the only country that suffered. I guess our population is pretty large, so alot of us died.

The thing that started this debate was the author's comment, about Russians not having courage. I'm so sick of propaganda from other countries and lies that the slightest thing ticks me off, so it is best not to make any comments against the Russians. So, author, please go and put a satchel charge on a tank. You're so brave. I bet you'll do it quick and easily.

As we have almost all gone off on a tangent, it's only a matter of time before this great topic about the history of dogs as warfare goes to waste. As long as no one insults my country I won't insult theirs.

If you are so special and perfect, why would you say something like that? I don't believe in that nonsense.

I have something related to the topic this time.

I don't think that the dogs would run under Russian tanks. It is true that is how they are trained, but a German tank is not a totally different machine. The dogs would go where they were commanded to go, not just start fighting at random. The soldiers would attach live grenades to the dog when it left.
