Hmm..that's a tough one, there are SO many great authors out there, older and newer. I could just say J. K. Rowling. xD
But I feel compelled to mention Lynn Hall, who's written several dog stories (mostly aimed towards younger readers than myself) and two of them I really enjoyed because they were about two of my favorite breeds, which hardly ever get any attention. One is
Riff, Remember, about a Borzoi, and the other is
The Soul of the Silver Dog, about a Bedlington terrier.
And of course if you want more dog stories, there's James Herbert, author of the
Fluke novel...but now names and titles are all running through my head, so I'll stop instead of going on forever.
Edit: Darn it. I was just reminded. The blasted library has failed me for the first time...I ordered an awesome-looking book called
Lives of the Monster Dogs on loan from another library and they've ignored my request. That book looks seriously good...
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/bookse ... 4164&itm=2Not that I'm familiar with the author, but if it's as good as it looks, I might get to be...

Just wanted to mention it. But I haven't gotten my hands on it yet. Or any of the other ones I requested.
