The reason for my timidity when posting, and admonishments for respect were driven in particularly by the disrespect I've received on other site and even in real life when this topic comes up. I've had people call me a "murderer" even though I've never shot any animal in my life. I've had people call me an idiot, even though I and most other people I know will agree I am not. I even had one person call me a fascist, even though this topic has very little to do with my political beliefs.

However, I was pleasantly suprised by the responces I got, even if they were not in agreement with me. I must say, from the name of the topic and the way people were howling (no pun intended) out names toward the hunter of that wolf, I thought there would be more of the same. However, I can see that at least the majority of people here have some maturity about them. Thank you, that is a breath of fresh air online, as I'm sure you'll agree.

Most of the members here wont flame you for something like that, but if they do, it's usually the younger ones who have no idea what they're talking about. I try to avoid flame wars by agreeing with everyone on some point.

In Winnipeg, it's not illegal to hunt bears or dears, so I doubt it would be for wolves.

i know you're saying you're not sure if it's real or not but this is what is says: Arctic Wolf skin rug taxidermy with mounted head, label by Sydney Robinson, Winnipeg, Canada, canvas backing cloth with red felt edging. Very bushy tail.

it's just disgusting though. pissedoff.gif whimper.gif cryeyesout.gif :pukel:

if it's taxidermy then it's gotta be real

All this being said, I would probably have a difficult time shooting a wolf. I don't think I'd particularly enjoy skinning it either, I'm rather squeamish about such things. However, I don't think that we ought to prohibit those people who enjoy hunting legally, and within the bounds of reason, from doing so. People who engage in taxidermy are also free to ply their trades, as far as I'm concerned. If I had a hunting lodge or something of that type, I might be interested in such a rug. I think I might stop short of using it as a comforter for my bed however.

I'm sure that you'll all have wonderful things to say about me now. Please be nice.

As a follower and student of law, and a person who prefers a life of reason, I have to agree with you on this. Legaly and rationaly, there are no arguments to condemn hunting wolves, if the hunting occurs legaly and the wolf's existance as a species would not be endangered by hunt. The same goes for aqquiring or producing a 'wolf-rug': it would be rather unfair to condemn making a wolf into a rug whilst at the same time having cowskin at your feet.

As for the moral aspect, however, I can only loathe people who kill other living beings, easpecially the more intelligent and socially complex ones (like wolves), for sport (in contrast to killing them because not doing so would jeopordize our own existance, as with rats). Because let us be frank: in todays society, the events in which one has to hunt a wolf for survival are zero, and the economic benefits are only marginal.
Morally speaking, I thus condemn the hunting (and subsequent conversion into comodities like rugs) of wolves.

I agree, and i don't think it matters how the wolf died, fur should be taboo.
If we allow fur from animals that were killed/died for other reasons it just makes using fur seem OK.
The type of people who use fur don't care how the animal died or ain't intelligent enough to see what is wrong with using it. Ban fur and leather all together ther are other products now we can use instead.

As messed up as it sounds, I totally agree w/ that statement. If any animal should have it's population controlled, it should be humans. And after killing something for personal gain, I think that if that person was to die, they would deserve the same fate :x

I agree 100% tastu_okami we need some sort of human population control, let's desex the criminals first!

...and drop down to their level now, huh??? Seriously, if somebody else does something offensive to you, then you most certainly DON'T want to do something back to them as revenge; if you do, chances are they will probably just want to do it again, or in this case, kill yet another wolf because it angered you to the point of seeking out revenge on them, and then you get even angrier with them and get revenge on them again, then he kills more wolves, it's a practically seemingly-endless cycle, if ya' know what I mean, so why even bother with it in that (or another similar) manner??? Sure, you can voice your opinion to that person, but just don't threaten them or be too over-offensive/over-insulting, etc., or you're bound to make the situation even worse than it has already become... whimper.gif -Charlie. cool.gif

Good idea. I love how we go on about having to control animal populations, but we're the ones there are far too many of...and more just keep on comin'..

Charlie, I totally see your point; though after being skinned I don't think they're gonna be harming any more wolves.

Well, technically, they probably wouldn't even LIVE for much longer anyways... eyeroll.gif -Charlie. cool.gif P.S. Oh, and BTW, I DON'T think that humans should be neutered/spayed ON PURPOSE and FOR NO GOOD REASON; heck, I don't even like ANIMALS being neutered/spayed themselves... :wangry: The main reason why: No functioning reproductive system=no more cute, baby offspring to raise and adore!!!!! cryeyesout.gif
